  1. Im sorry for having to write this and yes its a TMI story but since i had my surgery on the 4 of oct, i mayve had 3 bowel movements. My digestive system was already slow before i had the surgery but now its really bad. Its acting like nothing in and nothing coming out. I suffer from IBS with Constipation and omg, it has gotten bad. Ive had to come to the er tonight because earlier today i had the feeling that i had to go but when i tried, i had to strain. While straining, i felt this pain in my lower right stomach, real pain like cutting pain. I only went alittle. But when i got up, there was blood everywhere. I passed out. Rushed to the hospital and they called in a gastrointestinal specialist. Now, more surgery. Theyve said that because ive had 3 c sections when i had my 2 sets of twins and 1 single that i developed idhesions that have wrapped around my bowel making it hard to do #2. So off to surgery in the am. AGAIN. Youve never met someone that just wanna poop....lol. Hopefully after this i will become regular. Ill update you guys once they put me in my room. This is another 3day stay but hey atleast ill have problem solved. Hope this wasnt to much...goodnight

  2. All people are different -- not all have the same experiences.. so maybe some programs tailor their protocols to what they feel would be most beneficial to their patients in the long run. Maybe others have their protocol now-- but that could be open to change- perhaps based on more patient experience. Maybe out of concern for their own practices. If they have patients who have experienced complications after surgery- that might make them reevaluate their protocols.

  3. I made myself up a nice little lunch bowl with two pieces of turkey, about a tablespoon & 1/2 of garlic mashed potatoes, homemade cranberry sauce and this cauliflower "stuffing" dish that my hubby made for me (no actual stuffing involved lol) and had a small spoon of gravy over my turkey. I ate less than 1/2 of the bowl and was full.. but I went back to it and ate a little more about an hour later. I was still full all day until about 8 last night.. then I had a small piece of apple pie that I deconstructed and ditched the top crust lol. I was down 2 lbs this morning lol.

  4. I'm 2 months out I'm a little concerned about the holidays and all the parties and stuff anyone have a plan locked in place to prevent slip ups I want to make sure I don't misuse or abuse my new tool I'm still learning

Do you use a smaller plate? If not-- go out and get yourself a really nice (but smaller) special plate that will look more full with a smaller amount on it.. go for that turkey and other Proteins first..and listen to your tummy :) She'll let you know lol. :)

  5. I was put on prilosec 3 months I think, before my sleeve.. and continued to take it until about 2 months after my surgery.. I haven't needed it since. But I don't know if I'm the norm.. I read a lot ahead of time, that it could actually worsen after sleeve.. it didn't in my case. If I had a higher starting weight than I did- I may have gone for gastric bypass just to avoid that.. but sleeve just seemed like the least invasive for me with the most benefit.

  6. The carbonation will not be your friend. I agree with Kmorri if it's just a taste thing- then let it sit out or stir it until it goes flat.. but there's no benefit to drinking it. You want to be getting in Water to stay hydrated, and Protein to keep healing that new stomach of yours. Sprite isn't going to give you anything that you need nutritionally- so why risk it?

  7. I don't think I was allowed to add fruit in until after my 6 week follow up.. I don't think grapes would be my first choice even then.. very high in sugar. If I did though- I would probably take the time to peel them and seed them if they're not already seedless. But.. in general, I'd just say no. Too soon.

  8. I think it might depend on where you are.. but at my 1st appointment I was weighed, vitals taken, ekg, chest xray..and given a lot of info to read through-- some of it was a refresher on what was discussed at the first orientation meeting or whatever they called it- at the hospital, where new potential candidates go for info on the different surgeries.. and some of it more nutritional.. also was set up with appointments for the psych evaluation, and with a nutritionist.

  9. When I was still in the early post-op stages, I would mix a scoop or a 1/2 a scoop of Protein powder into my sf pudding-- I was using the sf pudding cups- already made ones-- not making my own pudding.. and when I added the Protein Powder (chocolate unjury) the pudding would instantly thin out and get very liquidy... which was kind of weird.. but worked fine for that stage anyway. Not sure if that's helpful lol.

  10. Breakfast is usually a Protein shake-- I make mine with fairlife skim milk, or add Protein powder to a mcdonalds sf vanilla iced coffee.. on the weekends bfast is usually scrambled eggs w/ cheese and if I'm lucky some bacon ;)

lunch is anything from sliced deli turkey (I like butterball's thanksgiving turkey when the deli doesn't run out of it!) with some whole berry cranberry sauce (not a lot, because I know its not sugar free), or a turkey burger w/o a bun and topped with whatever I can find and pack, left overs like pulled pork, Soups, etc.

dinner is whatever my hubby is making-- we'll do taco night without the taco shells, chicken w/ guac & cheese and usual taco toppings, turkey burgers, minute steaks w/ onions and mushrooms (I don't eat a lot of beef since surgery- but minute steaks go down with out issue), lots of Soups done in the crock pot this time of year- this week we did a fish chowder and a cheeseburger Soup, fish, shrimp, etc.

Snacks- P3's, cheese sticks wrapped in deli meats (like salami, ham, etc.), dannon light & fit greek yogurts, single serving pkgs of pistachios, Protein Bars, etc.

Exercise is walking every day-- if I don't get outside to walk, I will do Leslie Sansone walking dvd's.., my fit board, and that's about it now that it's too cold here for the pool.

  11. I just can not get in the required Protein amounts if I have only 3 meals a day. I have to spread out little mini-meals or Snacks through out the day, in order to get in what I really need. I am 7 months out and still have a Protein shake for Breakfast every day (except on weekends).. at work I get two 15 minute breaks, plus my 1/2 hr lunch.. so I bring some type of protein Snacks for those break times-- usually a P3, a small bag of pistachios or other nuts, a cheese stick wrapped in some type of lunch meat, a yogurt.. things like that. I see a lot of confusion on faces at work- where they see me shrinking but constantly see me eating little snacks lol.

  12. Best of luck with your surgeries! Wow lots tomorrow! :) I was sleeved in April... my best advice.. bring a robe and some comfy slippers or try to score an extra pair of the hospital's slipper socks, so you can get up out of bed and walking laps around the floor with your nurse as soon as you feel up to it. Make friends with your night nurse! Expect nausea-- and hopefully it wont be as bad as you expected lol. If your throat hurts more than you thought it would (mine was the worst part-- well that and the nausea) let your nurse know! Mine was able to call the doctor and he had her give me some chloraseptic throat spray that made all the difference! Get as much sleep as you can while you're there...give yourself time to heal. Don't worry about hurting the hospital cafeteria's feelings by not eating what they might send up while you're there.. if you can get the broth down- great.. if not- just focus on trying to get those little sip of Water down.

You might have stocked up on Protein powder and other stuff before hand.. and your body might not be so happy about it.. that's ok. Don't force it. It's more important to get fluids in and not worry about Protein right away. You do not want to become dehydrated. Get up and walking around at home as soon as you can too.. a little further every day.

  13. No it's not "normal" to be able to consume large amounts of Protein after a sleeve and not feel stuffed.. I think that was pretty apparent from the reactions that you got from your original post. Now that we know your sleeve surgery was not botched, and that it must be your eating habits... have you changed those habits? Or are you still pushing the limits? Have you been having any success with your sleeve?

  14. I was allowed thinned mashed potatoes in the liquid stage..and while they were really easy to get down, my body did not appreciate them. I would fall asleep almost instantly after eating them. Yes everyone is different, everyone tolerates things differently.. but after just having a life changing surgery- do you maybe think that doing what ever you want might not be the best idea? Your surgeon(s) said that you'd be off insulin after surgery-- potatoes and other starchy things are not the best option for diabetics as it is. I think you'll have a lot better success with your newly sleeved surgery if you follow guidelines from early on. You'll be setting yourself up for success, instead of letting yourself fall back on bad habits. Most of us got to the point of having weight loss surgery from bad habits and giving ourselves excuses to continue doing what we want. Just some food for thought.

  15. Yes! How ever horrible it is going in (and it's pretty horrible)... it's much worse coming out. When they tell you to drink a ton of Water, they're not kidding. Drink, drink and drink some more. Otherwise you'll feel like you're trying to pass a cement pinecone.

  16. I had my surgery back in April.. my hair has always "shed" a lot.. my husband used to say that if he lost as much hair as I do in the shower, he'd be bald in a week. If he saw how much of it falls out now, he'd be bald in 2 days lol. Luckily I have a ton of hair- it's always been super thick, so I'm the only one who notices that my hair is thinner. I can tell in my part in the front, that it's a lot thinner than before. I hit my Protein goals, I take my Vitamins, take Biotin to keep new growth coming in. What I have noticed is that the last two months, my hair has been crazy-- if I don't dry it and use a big round brush to smooth it out-- my hair was doing these little flippy wing things all over my head. It's getting curly. I've always had a little bit of wave in my hair- but this is different... so this morning I broke out an old can of loreal mousse (curve it elasti-curl or something like that)... that I had from when I had a perm like 2 years ago. My hair has been cut many times since then and the perm has been long gone for quite a while now, it's just about chin length. So I am embracing the curl-- moussed it up, broke out the old diffuser and it is so curly it's crazy!

  17. I had some muscle milk that someone gave me, but after surgery I couldn't choke that down for anything, it was way too thick and sweet for me. I used the no-sugar added chocolate carnation instant Breakfast a lot in the beginning, because it was a lot lighter and easier to get down. I also used unjury... I love the chocolate splendor.. the classic chocolate I thought was just ok.. loved the chicken flavored one (tastes like cup-a-soup), and the unflavored one because you can add that to just about anything. The strawberry sorbet flavor is ghastly --- yuck! I also tried the Advantage EAS I think it was called.. that they sell at BJ's wholesale.. strawberry.. not a fan. I still drink the chocolate splendor and the nsa carnation instant bfast. I love to mix in a tablespoon or two of pb fit.

  18. I just spoke with a doctor who works in an addiction clinic. He said stay away from alcohol as bariatric surgery patients become highly susceptible to becoming alcoholic. Don't know any statistics on this... Just may be one person's opinion. I've never been much of a drinker and certainly don't plan to start.

There was a handout on this given out at one of the bariatric support group meetings that I go to... I'll have to see if I still have it.. I have never been a big drinker so I'm not sure if I saved it. But it made sense.
