  1. Melissa,

There seems to be no universal instructions that Docs follow. Each is different in some way and according to my Doc, there are a hundred slight variations to the RNY. So, having that said, it's hard to say if it is too soon or not. Based on my instructions, I was OK to eat those same soft foods at seven days.

Something that has really saved me, is cooking a whole chicken and making my own broth. I sauté onions, carrots and celery, jalapeño and toss in some fresh herbs. Then I add Water and some costco chicken base and a whole chicken. Add some seasoning and I cook that for about 3 hours. I strain it and drink on the broth for the week. I usually get about 3 qts to a gal. I heat it up 16 oz at a time and sometimes I will add soy Protein powder. Bobs Red Mill gives you 17gms per 1/4 cup. It's good and beneficial.

Good luck, you are going to do just fine!

  2. I will try very hard to get at least one premiere Pro Tien strawberries and cream drink down, it gives you 30 g of Protein. You can get unflavored Protein powder and mix it with cream-based Soup or broth to get additional Protien. If you're using crystal light with your Water you should dilute it, because although it is sugarfree, according to my dock too much is not good, it should be diluted. Flavored waters that you do yourself with fresh rosemary fresh meant lemons and cucumbers is very good. You could purchase one of those nice drink dispensers and do something different each day and drink on it. Get your Vitamins and your Protein in every day with a total of at least 64 ounces of Fluid, so important.

  3. Howdy, although I am not an eight week yet I just completed my five weeks, I will say I did a ton of research before having the surgery. My physician told me, that even though the basic surgery of RNY is the same, there are 100 small variations which causes postop instructions to differ to some degree. And physicians are different. I can tell you from what I have read that eating regular food at eight weeks is too soon. Full healing process takes up to six months. As an example, I will share with you the regimen that my doc has me on. All soft foods, and only about a medicine cup full once a day. 60 gms of liquid Protein and a total of 64 ounces of liquid per day.

  4. Would be interesting to know what your discharge orders were? Did you have RNY or sleeve? Based on my doc directions (surgerys and docs so different) 64 oz of liquid is criticle. Homemade chicken broth saved me! I would be concerned about that OJ, unless you were told to do it. This is a good forum, great feedback here. Best of luck, you're going to do great!

  5. Give it time. Be careful of that drain tube incision, easy for body bugs to crawl in that saying and you could get an infection, exactly what happened to me on day 10. My drain tube came out on day seven, flew home and started having issues. Make sure that area stays clean. The polling pain is very normal, do your walking, take it easy and take your pain meds. You should have gotten a liquid narcotic pain med as well as a prescription for nausea medication. If you didn't, call your doctor. Trust me, it helps. I was off of my pain meds at day 12.

I am four weeks postop yesterday, and the pain is finally subsiding I can hardly tell it anymore. You have been through major surgery, you will start feeling better.
