  1. Almost 8 weeks out and doing fab. So far I have been able to eat anything I try. Trying my best not to fall back on carbs like I used to. Had a rough couple of days right after I was cleared for all foods. I went a little overboard on the carbs. Otherwise, this whole journey is a learning process. I am relearning what being full feels like and learning to listen to my body when it tells me to stop eating. Also recently went back to my trainer so I can start toning my muscles in hopes of decreasing the severity of extra skin. Feels good to be active again.

  3. No joke about the gas pains holy crap, had my surgery this am and have been walking every hour, it's been rough but hopefully by tomorrow the gas hits the road!!!

I'm still having gas and I had surgery Monday morning. Lots of burping and just recently flatulating.

  4. Made it through my surgery Monday! They kept me in the hospital two nights because anything I drank made me nauseous so I was not drinking enough for them to discharge me. Heading home today though. Pain is managed and not much nausea. These gas pains are for the birds! It's worse that the surgery pain. Lol!!

Thanks for welcoming me. How is the pre op diet going?. It's been really hard for me. I am a nervous wreck. I'll be sleeved tomorrow Gods willing. Wish me luck

I would say the pre-op diet went ok. Lol. My surgeon wasn't really concerned because my liver shrunk significantly between June and now as I lost about 15lbs. He was pleased with my ultrasound results. I have to be at the hospital at 5am tomorrow. I have a feeling I will not be getting any sleep.

  6. OK, stupid question here, but since it's a thread running through this thread ;) I have to ask:

where is this follow-up show about My 600 Pound Life-ers? I am embarrassed to say I searched TLC, and their website, and my cable guide, and couldn't find it! Sorry to hijack from this important topic but...help! Thanks, :)

(Or follow-up info, if it's not a show)

(I'm old and not so good sometimes with the tech searching)

I found them on TLC On Demand, but that was months ago. If you go to TLC.com they have full episodes and follow up clips on the previous season's subjects. Hope this helps.

  7. I will definitely be telling people I had WLS. I have no reason to feel ashamed. I only told a select few BEFORE surgery because I didn't want to hear people try and talk me out of it or tell me I could do it on my own.

Yes. You can always tell people, but you can't ever untell. I told a very few people before surgery, and since then have told people when it felt right, for whatever reason. I got negative comments from people including the nurse who did my pre-op. But I also got support from people who love me in the pre-op stage, and have been happy to share with people post-op when it has come up and felt like it's been coming from a positive place.

And I am a total Hamilmaniac.

I have not seen the show yet as every time they send me an email that more tickets are available, I am never in a position to buy them! Grr. However, I am OBSESSED with the soundtrack as I was with In the Heights. So good. And now I will always know what year the battle of Yorktown took place, haha.

  8. I think my BFF is afraid of what will happen after. My sister thinks she is afraid that men might pay me more mind because I will be healthy AND I have a great personality (her words not mine). This could all be true. It's just a shame that it comes to this. I will definitely be telling people I had WLS. I have no reason to feel ashamed. I only told a select few BEFORE surgery because I didn't want to hear people try and talk me out of it or tell me I could do it on my own.

  9. So many posts here, about unsupportive significant others. Just watched My 600 lb. life. Zsalynn is doing great. She went for weight training with a trainer. Her SO said if you want to break a sweat grab the vacuum cleaner. I wanted to go through the tv. She is trying so hard, and her young child (and his), yells why did you marry him mommy!? Zsalynn said because I wouldn't have you.

I have made terrible choices in my life, I guess this is why it bothers me so. Sort of like the first husband of 20 years dropping me at the hospital to have two different surgeries. He is history but I still wonder why I settled for such crap. The first surgery was a kidney stone when I was 7 1/2 months pregnant, and nearly died.

Please, strong women, never ever let a man treat you like this.

Did you watch the follow up episode? She divorces that dirtbag and starts dating again

  10. my sister was much nicer and more supportive than that, @@bwyjunky79 but a similar issue as she was not happy to think she would not be the smallest sister. so, she has focused on eating better, and hey, really I am all for it because I want us to all be as healthy as we can be.

Thankfully, my household seems to feel like my weight loss will spark their weight loss. My sister is also overweight and she has no desire for surgery. She is excited for me to share meals with her, lol! All in all those I have told are excited for me and want me to succeed at living a healthier more fulfilled life.

  11. I am dealing with this right now actually. My BFF was very much against me getting the surgery stating that she was "concerned". That she knows people who had blah blah blah. When in fact she does not know anyone personally who has had the sleeve. As a nurse, she jumped to conclusions instead of researching the procedure. So once she was reassured (not that I give a crap because it's my body and I am doing it whether she approves or not), she started saying things to me like "well you'll have extra skin and then how will you feel?" Well bitch I will fantastic because I will be able to tie my shoes without sitting on the bed and go on roller coasters without having to try the seat first. She has also starting saying that she will now be the fat friend. Which means she always thought of me as the fat friend. I have a feeling this next year is going to be very challenging for her. She is 5'7", apparently 185 and wants to be 165. I think she is jealous that I am able to get this tool and I think deep down she DOES think it is the easy way out even though she won't say it. It has been tough because she is negative so much of the time, I can usually just brush it off, but I don't know for how much longer I can do that. You are either on board or not! Thankfully the family and friends I have told are excited for me and want me to succeed. One friend keeps telling me it is going Tom hangs my life and I love her for that!

*side note...thanks for posting this. I have been needing to vent about this and kind of felt like I didn't have anyone to talk to*

  12. I was 45 when I found my man. I won't waste your time with details, but do not settle for less. I used to say I would rather be alone than with a with a husband who won't come home, and I was alone for awhile. Never dreamed what happiness was ahead of me.

I am 37 and I have never had a boyfriend, but that is because I refuse to settle. I won't just take what I can get. I, too, would rather be happy and single than miserable in some relationship.

  13. @@bwyjunky79 I start that ????same diet on Tuesday. Surgery the 19th. How is the diet going for you so far?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It is going alright. I am not getting all of stuff in as I am still recovering from my endoscopy (my uvula was swollen and enlarged;hard time swallowing). So I am doing the shakes twice a day, yogurt once and then trying to have a decent meal. I started it on Wednesday and I'm already down 5lbs.

  14. I was reading this and seeing that everyone is on the pre-op diet. I am as well, but i'm allowed 2 Protein Shakes and a sensible meal... not all liquid... 2 days before surgery I am on total liquids only. while I know some meals aren't as sensible as others, the subway meal could have been a lot worse... could have been a whopper and fries... Just keep going and get back on track! You got this! Good luck on your upcoming surgery and continued success!!

I am on my pre-op too and it is similar to yours. I get three Protein shakes, two Protein Bars or two Greek yogurts, and a sensible dinner. I agree with you that the cheating could have been worse!

  15. Anyone taking probiotics before surgery? And if so what are the benefits? I'm trying to make sure that my body is as strong and as healthy as possible before surgery in the hopes to eliminate any complications after.

Any suggestions on ways to prep to make the recovery go smoothly is much appreciated.

    Thanks!

I have been taking probiotics for the past two years and it makes all of the difference when it comes to my stomach and bowels. I had an issue with IBS symptoms and my gastroenterologist added a probiotic to my diet to see if I found any relief and I did. I have also been recommended people take a probiotic post-op to help with Constipation and everyone comes back saying they help more than laxatives.< /p>
