    Can you see a gastroenterologist or bariatric surgeon about this? It's just a guess but it might explain your problems.

    The thing is where I live I can’t just chose to see a specialist.. I have to be referred to one through my GP.. I’ll give it another try with my GP but I don’t think anything will change.. anyways I can’t see one now, not until the quarantine is over

    Was bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) ever taken into consideration? Just asking because you said it was better after one course of antibiotics.

    Nope never... as I said I only got to see 4 GP’s who seem clueless of Bariatric surgery a dismissed my issue as being a natural side effect of my surgery that requires diet adjustments only.. they never bothered to refer me to a specialist or run further tests

    Weird. Do any of these foods make it worse? Or did the omitting of certain foods change anything at all?

    Nope.. nothing at all.. nothing made a change .. and it’s been 6 years now.. It’s not easy to see a doctor and talk about this yet I’ve seen 4 GP’s so far and they keep asking me to change my diet and refuse to refer me to a specialist.. it’s very Embarrassing and depressing .. I sometimes consider trying to reverse my surgery..

    I think maybe the smell did get better when i was on antibiotics (only the foul smell and not the runny stools) but I’ve only taken a course few times and not enough to say that it did make a difference for sure.. yet even if it did I don’t think the solution is to be on antibiotics for the rest of my life..

    Did you cut out dairy completely or did you eat lactose free dairy? What about the meats you eat and fats?

    I tried both.. because even lactose free milk will cause me to have diarrhea.. we mainly eat fish, goat and chicken.. those 3 types of meat don’t usually have much fat in them

    I forgot to add .. the only type of dairy I have is Greek yogurt and not on daily bases.. it’s usually added to salad (like in tzaziki) .. maybe once a week

    What did you eliminate? And what do you typically eat?

    I completely omitted lactose and sugar (including artificial sweeteners), I tried cutting out gluten and vegetables/ legumes that cause gas like cabbage, onions etc. my diet mainly consisted of meats (chicken, red meat, fish), rice (in moderation) and vegetables, fruit is my dessert. For beverages I drink Water or red/green tea. Yes I do treat myself to foods I like like ice creams and cakes and chocolate but it’s only once in a while.. my weight is healthy and stable ..

  7. May I add, that I’ve had a friend recommending and insisting on enema and especially coffee enema.. this friend has never had a bariatric surgery so I’m sure she’s unaware of the exact causes of my problem. I have been hesitant on trying it but a quick google search doesn’t make it sound like a good idea.. but yet if this works I’m ready to give it a go. Anything to ease my problem

  8. I’m 6 years post a mini gastric bypass and still haven’t found a solution to my very very embarrassing problem. I suffer from foul smelling stools that can be runny sometimes. It causes me a great deal of embarrassment and distress.. I can’t use toilets anywhere outside my own toilet in my house.. and no one can use the toilet after me because the smell is very foul and lingers for a very long time.. I also suffer from a lot of smelly farts that usually start around evening time (hardly anything in the morning) ... no matter what I eat or what I eliminate from my diet it doesn’t cause a difference.. Does anyone seem to have a solution for this or managed to understand why? Please don’t tell me it’s my diet because I’ve tried changing it an eliminating so many things and nothing works.

  9. I’m currently pregnant and my OBGYN is clueless on how to care for patients who have had Bariatric Surgery.. she wants me to do a glucose challenge test to check for gestational diabetes. I’m supposed to drink 75grams of glucose.. obviously it will cause me dumping syndrome. She didn’t know what dumping syndrome is and asked me to look for an alternative because the HbA1C wouldn’t give her a clear indication of gestational diabetes. Anyone with experience here?

  10. Thank you all for your reply.
    @Ed_NW this seems interesting.. will definitely order some and give it a try.. thank you

    @James Marusek well no I still get dumping from high fat and high refined sugar.. even lactose free milk causes me diarrhea so I think maybe I’m allergic to milk protein!!! I can only drink plant based milk but those are very low in calories.

    @harmony love
    @GreenTealael
    whey Protein doesn’t go down my system well.. I need to try Pea protein. Also most protein powders sold have a high content of lead (at least that’s what the warning on the packaging says) it’s toxic on everyone but especially toxic to fetus and pregnant women.. I still can’t find anything locally that is approved for pregnancy and I can tolerate. I don’t mind ordering anything online if anything exists

  11. I’m almost 3 years out of gastric bypass .. I’ve lost a lot of weight but maintained a healthy BMI for most.. I’m currently pregnant and started off with a BMI of 22.. as my pregnancy progresses I’m finding it harder and harder to eat.. I feel constantly hungry but can only eat very very very small amounts of food and worry that my baby will end up with a low birth weight if I don’t get in enough calories. My Vitamin levels are all ok and I’m taking a special prenatal vitamin for bariatric patients.. now I’m thinking of adding high calorie shakes to my diet. Problem is that anything with high fat will cause me diarrhea (like nestle Boost VHC), anything with dairy I can’t consume because I’m lactose intolerant, and anything with high sugar will cause me dumping syndrome.. I was wondering if anyone knows of any high calorie drink that i can tolerate?? Or does anyone have a recipe of a high calorie drink I can make at home that will boost my calorie intake.. appreciate any input

  12. So I’ve had mini gastric bypass 2 years ago and I’m finally pregnant. I switched from taking bariatric Multivitamins to prenatal Vitamins. I need to know if that’s ok and covers all my nutrients and minerals needs? In addition to prenatal vitamins I’m also taking 1200 mg of calcium citrate, 20mg Chelated Zinc, 5mg Folic Acid and once in a week 10,000 IU Vitamin D, I would also need to know when should I have my first prenatal visit to the Obgyn? Mine is scheduled at week 6, what do I expect of it other than ultrasound and what what type of Vitamin testing should be preformed? Anything else that I need to know.. I am a bit worried and excited

  14. I have never thought I would ever struggle to gain weight. I had MGB 2.2 years ago and had a healthy stable weight for so long. Last month I’ve been battling divorse and within 4 weeks I lost 7 kg’s and I’m at a scary weight right now. I ordered a pack of nestle boost very high calorie drink with 530 calories per pack. Thought that might solve the problem! It says it’s lactose and gluten free but it gave me the worst diarrhea ever. Apparently the fat content is very high! Now does anyone know how I can increase my calorie intake and gain weight back! Does anyone know of a high calorie drink that is MGB friendly! I am unable at the moment to just eat more so I need calorie packed drinks

  15. I’m 2 years post Mini gastric bypass.. my weight loss was crazy at the beginning and we were all scared of me dropping below a healthy weight. But towards the end of year 1 my weight started to stabilize at a BMI of 22-23 and the amount of food I was able to eat was good.. things were good and Vitamins were in balance. However for the past 2 months I’ve started noticing that I’m unable to eat much. I don’t have pain while eating but I feel full on very small amounts (I.e 3-4 spoons of food) my weight started to dropp again which isn’t something I want and I’ve started feeling very sluggish .. my Iron levels and Vitamin B12 are still within normal range however my Vit D is very low and started taking extra vit D supplements.. I’m just wondering what could be the cause for not being able to eat well and also could a deficiency in Vit D cause me to feel sluggish or could it be something else??

    What mechanism does your doctor suggest could be causing this alleged damage to your mitochondria?

    Kinda sounds like the problem you had before the surgery is still giving you issues?

    May I ask your age?

    The doctors suggests that the damage to the Ooctye is cause by malabsorption and/or metabolic issues.. also not having enough fat (which is not my case since I’m at a healthy BMI of 23)

    i too think the prroblem causing my infertility (which is still unknown and not diagnosed) is most probably there even before weight loss surgery. I’ve had multiple IVF failures even before mini gastric bypass but this doctor thinks I might have a damaged mitochondria which could’ve been caused by weight loss surgery.. he suggested some supplements which I don’t mind taking but since there isn’t still a solid test to confirm the damage to the mitochondria then I still won’t have a known diagnoses.. I just need to know if this is true or not because MGB is the only reversible surgery and if it means that I have to reverse my surgery to restore my fertility then I’m more than happy to do so..

    Im currently 34 (turning 35 in April). Never had diabetes and no other medical issues.

  17. I’ve always heard that bariatric surgey restores fertility and I have resorted to bariatric surgery after years of unexplained infertility.. two years post-op and I’m still struggling to get pregnant either naturally or through IVF. Been to consult many doctors and every doctor had his own theory.. the finally doctor I have consulted suggested that my bariatric surgery might have caused more harm than good and it could have damaged the white part of my eggs (mitochondria). There is not test to check for mitochondria damage but fixing it can be a challenge! I don’t know how true is this statement but what I know is that I’ve struggled getting pregnant even before the surgery.. and wheather before or after the surgery I would always manage to get expanding blastocyst and from what I read, embryos with damaged mitochondria don’t usually live past 3 days in the lab!!

  18. Hello,

    I'm 1 year and 1 month out of Mini Gastric Bypass. Last week I've experienced the worst heartburn ever that I was almost certain I will vomit blood (I only vomited green bile). Rushed to the emergency and I was referred to endoscopy. The doctor found that my pouch was full of bile with a very small ulcer, everything else looked normal but a biopsy was taken and sent to pathology and currently waiting for the pathology report. Next step is to do PH manometry to check the PH value of the esophagus. I have also been complaining of excess weight loss and I'm still losing weight. The doctor did talk to me about the possible need of another surgery saying that bile reflux can cause cancer if left untreated. The options that I have is either to convert the surgery to RNY, the pros is that I will maintain my weight loss and can gain some weight back after few years, or, I can have a complete reversal and the cons is that I will most certainly gain my weight back and maybe more.. I came here hoping I can find some advise from people who have experienced something similar or know out of experience

  20. C. Diff. is a possibility, but from personal experience I think you would know if you had it. It is more than just loose, runny stool. It was extremely painful and miserable. Probiotics help, but there is no getting over it or lessening the symptoms unless you are given a very specific antibiotic after giving a stool sample. If they gave you a Z-pak or amoxicillin, it would actually make C. Diff worse.
    For gastric bypass the foul gas and BM is normal. As I understand it, it is because of the partial or incomplete digestion of food that causes it. I'm sure it seems bad now, but it get better over time.

    I actually went to google the symptoms of C.Diff and I don't personably think it could be that. Yes I was given Amoxicillin. If this was simply a side effect of the bypass why has it improved dramatically after the use of amoxicillin (augmentine)! I'm thinking there is more to it that just simply the side effect to gastric bypass. I'm 1 year out. I keep hearing things will get better down the line but no one mentions around when should I start noticing an improvement!

  21. I have written about this problem many times but no one seemed to know or have an advise that I haven't tried. With the foul smelling stool I have been complaining of soft-runny stools that are also pale in color. Everytime I go to the doctor and mention this they just reassure me that it's one of the side effects of gastric bypass. However, 3 weeks ago I was given a course of antibiotics (I had bacterial sore throat) and to my surprise, my flatulence was noticeably reduced and was never smelly again, my stools were of a normal consistency and color, and I managed to gain 1 kg (which is a good thing since I lost more weight than required)... this lasted for almost 3 weeks then gradually things started to return back to pre-antibiotic status... honestly, the bariatric team of doctors I'm currently seeing never seem to be bothered and unfortunately they're the only ones available where I live. Does anyone seem to know what could be the case?? My life is ruined by this I try to avoid people all the time as I have no control over my flatulence and smelly stools...

  22. This problem is seriously affecting my day to day quality of life... I knew that gastric bypass can cause flatulence problem but mine is way over the top.. I think I have tried everything I can try and couldn't solve this problem. I've increased my probiotic intake, used charcoal pills, simeticone, changing diet, herbal teas.... I've tried it all and with no success.. and it's not only the problem of trapped gas that I have but that my farts smell so awful that I sometimes cry from embarrassment that it causes me in public or between family and friends.. I'm in desperate need of help..
