    Sleevers with PCOS?

I have PCOS. Was diagnosed at the age of 22. My periods have been irregular but would really improve when I lose weight. I have gained more weight in the past year so my periods have been a mess like never before. I have decided to get a VSG in hope to treat my PCOS and infertility. My surgery in scheduled April 28th. As to facial hair I have dealt with that though laser hair removal. I am currently at a BMI of 32. I know when I was at a BMI of 26 or lower I had so much less of the side effects of PCOS. 2. I need to lose between 20-25 kg. That's around 44-55 lbs. my weight has been just piling over the years and every year I'm heavier than the one before. Plus I have PCOS and insulin resistance . So if I don't act fast I will eventually develop type 2 diabetes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. Thanks for the support everyone Just to clarify Hubby said that he thinks that I think that a VSG is an easy way out. And that I'm wrong in thinking that.. And that's not true because I know that now I'm using my last and hardest option. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. Thank you so much dear. That was a help. Sorry for the late reply I'm new to this forum and especially to this application.. Appreciate it. I have found another good surgeon in a country nearby and will go for a normal 80-85% sleeve. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  6. Ok so what's the deal with pre-op diet? I read here that some of you are on a pre-op diet. Can I ask why? I asked my doctor if I need a pre-op diet and he said no.. I'm just curious to know why are some on a pre-op diet. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. I agree. I only wanted my mom and husband. But my mom said she didnt want to lie for me if someone asked what she was doing. I just shake my head. Ha ha well it was my moms idea not to tell anyone.. She too doesn't want me to hear any negative thoughts from others. She supports me with this all the way although at first I thought she would be the one to disagree.. In fact she will be traveling with me to get the surgery done since Hubby can't take time off work Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. Hi, my surgery is booked on April 30th and like you I'm not planning on telling anyone about this except Hubby and my mum. I just don't want to hear people telling me I didn't need the surgery or asking if I tried dieting before opting for the surgery! Those are just questions that get me angry and I just want to focus on my weight loss and enjoy it. I don't want anyone to ruin it for me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Greetings from Dubai!! I'm scheduled for a sleeve April 30th.. I too have mixed feeling but mainly excited.. Like with every surgery I think what freaks me out the most is the GA. Other than that I think I'm prepared (well I hope I am) for all post-op side effects.. Wishing you (and me) good luck ! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Ok so I'm scheduled for a gastric sleeve (the full gastric sleeve this time) and my BMI is 32. I would like to hear from anyone who had a gastric sleeve with a BMI lower than 35. How was your experience and how long has it been and how much have you lost? Anyone lost more than required? If so what are you/have you doing/done about it? I need to loose 20 kg to reach my goal. I am worried and excited at the same time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. Well my goal is to lose 25 kg. I think I will be very happy if I lose 15kg.. Can I ask if you suffer from any loose saggy skin? I'm terrified that I might have saggy skin. What about your hair loss? How did you manage with that? Have you had any major pain right after the surgery or the first couple of weeks? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Oh wow 18lbs in 3 weeks is really good. I currently weigh 167.6 but I'm pretty sure I'm much shorter than you. From what I read and hear it's normal to have mixed emotions at the beginning but you will really appreciate it once you lose much more and the side effects from the surgery subside. .. Good luck and well done ! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. I'm 33 and have a BMI of 32 + PCOS and insulin resistance. I decided to go for a gastric sleeve but my doctor said l because of my low BMI he will perform a restricted sleeve gasterectomy where he will only remove between 50-55% of my stomach so I can loose around 20-25 kgs and not more .. I tried searching the Internet on this but couldn't find anything so has anyone done this? Would it really work!! This is a self paid surgery so i really need to make sure that I am doing the right thing. I tried consulting another doctor and he said the same thing it will be a modified gastric sleeve but couldn't tell me exactly how much of my stomach that has to be removed Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. Thank you so much. A reply like yours is exactly what I was looking for. Someone with a low BMI and either had the full sleeve or modified sleeve. I had my doubts that why I was searching. And I haven't felt really comfortable or convinced after I met with the Doctor even though he is a well reputed doctor and one of the very first to introduce the surgery in the region back in 2002. I am trying to seek a 4th medical opinion but it's really hard trying to find a reputed doctor near where I live. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App So basically Meatpie said the same thing as everyone else but gave you the right answer? I wanted to hear someones experience with a similar situation or a medical documentation. That's the difference. Plus it's not about having the full service if I'm paying the full price.. It's about would that service suite me or not.. But thanks to all Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  16. The surgeon I went to is considered to be one of the top in the region. He has done hundreds of surgeries. The patients I talked to were all from the higher BMI group and I couldn't find anyone with a low BMI and similar situation. No one has done a 55% gastric sleeve.. That's why I'm here in this forum now to try and see if anyone has been through a similar surgery or has some information about this . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. Actually it is important. Because I have heard of people having a failed gastric sleeve because the doctor did not remove enough of the stomach. I am a self paid patient and need to make sure that what I am doing is the right decision . I can not afford neither financially nor risking my health and go through the gastric sleeve again. Not many doctors or options are available near where I live. In fact I have to travel to the nearest country that offers the surgery with reputable doctors. And that's what I did for my first consultation Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Hi can you please post the link to your article! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. As I said there is no documentation about %. I couldn't find anything. 2 doctors said I would benefit from a modified Bariatric surgery with one of them insisting on 55%. The 3rd doctor I spoke to today said that the percentage differs from one patient to another depending on the size of the patients stomach. There is one size for the tube inserted through the mouth but what might account for 80% in one patient might be only 50% in another patient.. I am still waiting for a reply from my surgeon regarding that but I don't see harm in trying to ask here and gather as much information as I can. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. Thanks to all replies. I did go for a second opinion and like the first said I am a candidate for a modified gastric sleeve but didn't tell me what was the percentage he suggests removing. Thing is the surgeon I went to is one of the top surgeons in the region and anyone else will not be as well qualified and experienced as him. And I can't afford paying for another consultation with another surgeon because a) that would cost me consultation fee. b ) I have to travel to get another opinion. And it's not easy to get an over the phone consultation. The surgeon I went to is not where I live and I travelled all the way to consult him. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
