  1. Ok sorry that I'm bombarding this forum with my posts but it seems I have so many questions. I was wondering if after getting the bypass surgery (either RNY or mini gastric bypass) are will still able to digest and absorb Vitamin pills (and not capsules) like prenatal Vitamins for example? Also I came across a Bariatric once a day capsule under the brand name ProCare Health . Was wondering if any of you have used it before? Is it advisable to use a once a day pill? I have read somewhere that chewables are the best for RNY patients and it has to be taken 2-4 times for best absorption.. Is this true? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Oh and I forgot to mention. Theoretically, MGB should cause less dumping syndrome compared to RNY.. However, I did experience what very much seemed like dumping syndrome from Protein shakes (0 sugar 0carbs) tried different brands and all had the same effect on me. So dr advised to stay away from all forms of Protein Shakes and I have been feeling much better ever since.. It's strange that the Protein shake caused those symptoms because dumping syndrome is mainly cause by eating sugar Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. Hi Julie.. I lived in the uk for 6 years .. Do you suffer from diabetes or had PCOS? How old are you? And did the surgeon mention how much will your loop be or how much does he suggest? Lap band is useless btw and it is expected that within 2 years it will not be used anymore I initially wanted a sleeve but my surgeon said the following:- 1- MGB is reversible, so if anything happens God forbids there is always a way back and plan B 2- MGB is associated with less risk of bleeding and leakage compared to sleeve 3- type 2 diabetes respond better to MGB than to sleeve 4- the chance of regaining weight with MGB is much less than with sleeve 5- % of loss is almost the same 6- chance of getting GERD or reflux with sleeve is higher than with MGB 7- quality of eating and speed of recovery is better and faster with MGB compared to sleeve Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

❤️❤️ I'm glad things turned out well for you. Noor im not giving up hope.. Hubby is supportive and we are high school sweethearts .. May I ask why you chose MGB? And who was your doctor? At first I went to Abdulsalam Altaie. He was a quack .. Tried to convince me to go for a 40% sleeve which is absolutely a blunder. No medical based evidence that is works, not to mention how pushy he was to convince me to get the surgery done to the extent where he wanted to perform it the very second day before any blood work was out yet!! Can't believe he is still practicing on so many patients Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm from Muscat .. Well initially and because of my low BMI I really wanted the sleeve. I read so much about it and was just mentally and physically prepared for it until an hour before the surgery my surgeon came into my room and convinced me to have MBG mainly because it is reversible (well he did mention other reasons as well) I quickly agreed but right after the surgery I had the worst buyers remorse ever (not to mention the severe complications which had me in the ICU for 3 days and 7 units of blood + 6 units of frozen packed platelets) . I feel I just didn't give myself enough time to process the idea. He said MGB is not associated with more malabsorption than the sleeve which then I came to know that that wasn't true. I'm currently just trying to cope with what I'm in . I have PCOS. I have one child who needs bone marrow transplant from a matched sibling donor and I have been through 5 rounds of IVF with pre implantation genetic diagnoses and each and every time we manage to find a viable healthy embryo but no pregnancy is achieved. I don't have time and just thought of taking a drastic measure to control my PCOS and reverse it. I really hope this time things work.. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Oh dear I'm so sorry to hear that? Do you think it has been the hardest because of the MGB?? I just can't see a link between cervical shortening and MGB but I might be wrong.. What was your BMI prior to surgery? Have your labs shown any deficiencies in any vitamins/ minerals? I'm guessing from your name you're from the GCC!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi, Well I had the MGD mainly to get pregnant. My pre-op BMI was 33.. I asked my doctor when is it safe to try for pregnancy and he said after 3 months provided that I do my labs before I start trying. From what I hear, if you stick to your vitamins you should be fine. Good like.. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. But I had this surgery specifically to reverse my PCOS and be able to get pregnant! The reason I asked about prenatal pills is that I would like to start on them along with Bariatric Multivitamins in order to prepare my body for pregnancy. The prenatal vitamins have more ingredients that aren't available in Bariatric multivitamins and they help with the lining of the uterus. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  10. Ok so I'm 3 weeks out from my mini bypass. I have managed to lose 9 kg in the first 2 weeks, then stalled which I was expecting but now I've gained 1 kg which is baffling me!! My oral intake is no where near what I used to eat in the past and I am making sure that whatever I eat is either sugar free or low in carbs. I've had a very bad reaction to Protein shakes so my doctor advised me to stop all Protein Shakes and concentrate on my oral intake of Proteins. An example of what I eat in one day is:- - 180 ml of low fat milk - 1 egg - 1/2 avocado - 100g of puréed meat - 1 tbsp of mushy peas - 180 ml of low fat milk - 1 banana - 1 small cucumber I mean I can understand the stalls and why they happen but gaining a kg is worrying to me at this stage.. 12. @@Inner Surfer Girl @@James Marusek @@WannabeH As I mentioned I had to stop my Protein shakes because every time I had them I would get what seems like dumping syndrome. So doctor advised to stop and concentrate on protein from food My daily protein target is set at 60-70 grams per day. But doctor said if I can do 40 for the time being that should be fine. No I am unable yet to meet my daily requirement of Water.. But Proteins I'm trying and almost there.. I have 12g from milk+ 6g from an egg + 25 or 26g from meat that's around 44g per day.. Which according to my doctor is not bad at all given that my BMI was only at 33 pre- surgery. I have PCOS.. And have always struggled to lose weight. Could it contribute to my stalls and/or water retention now? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  14. Currently I find it really difficult to drink my Protein shakes. So I was really wondering if down the line I can manage to get in my recommended daily intake of protein (which for me is around 60g) will I still have to drink my Protein shake? I mean is protein not absorbed properly with bypass patients the same was many Vitamins and minerals are hence the need to supplement with multi vitamins??! I'm thinking 1 chicken breast + 1 serving of cottage cheese + 1 serving of oats per day can meet my Recommended daily intake of protein Also when I reach my goal weight and my weight stabilizes will I still need to take in this much of protein per day? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. Ahhh that's great to know .. But I still need to know, does your daily protein requirement reduces as you come down in weight? I know for sure someone weighing 70kg needs much less protein that someone weighing 120kg! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App No, your protein requirement does not decrease. I was told my protein target is for life. But why? That doesn't make sense to me. Plus the daily recommended protein intake for an average healthy woman is 46g per day. Prior to the surgery I don't think anyone really counted their daily intake of protein. Yet most of us had never had a problem. Protein shakes really made me sick and triggered what seemed like dumping syndrome for me although I made sure they have 0 carbs and 0 sugar. So my doctor advised me to stop all protein shakes and concentrate of food source of protein instead. I now I'm feeling much better though I'm not really able to meet my daily target of protein yet. He said I will get there gradually. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. But you have to take 4 capsules per day right?! I have found another brand called Procare that does Bariatric Multivitamins in capsule that has to be taken only once per day. Not sure if anyone has used it or not but so far 1 capsule 1 time per day sounds really appealing to me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  19. It seems no matter what I eat or how I eat Or how much I eat always feel nauseous with accelerated heart beat and dizziness and usually dierrhea 30-60 min after. What to me seems like dumping syndrome. Some of the foods I eat are:- - Protein shake 0 carb 0 sugar - Greek style yoghurt - soft scrambled eggs - lentil Soup (no potatoes) - home made tomato soup - no sugar added creamy porridge - 0 sugar Jello - cottage cheese The only thing that I have managed to take in well is bone broth. I eat very small amount using only the tip of a small spoon each time. And no more than a total of 3-4 table spoons of food each time. Maximum 3 meals per day (that doesn't include water) and no I don't drink or eat at the same time.. Leave a gap between 15-30min between each. Is this normal??! I have also noticed that I have a heightened sense of smell now and everything smells horrible to me. I am hating the taste of sweet things which is making it really really really difficult to drink my Protein shakes. I tried a sample of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken soup protein and the taste was horrible. I am just really finding it difficult to cope. Any advice? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  22. @@James Marusek But what could be causing the dumping Syndrome in my case??? Doctor doesn't think it's a dumping syndrome thought he didn't say what he thinks it is. In regards to the Protein shakes, so far I've tried 4 brands and all caused me to have what seems like dumping syndrome, the other issue is after the surgery it seems that my taste buds have changed. I can't stand anything that is sweet and absolutely gag on things with artificial flavors and/or smells. I will for sure keep looking and trying and testing.. But for the time being I'm barely meeting 20g of protein per day. Since I can handle the milk well I was thinking of drinking milk instead of Water. Not sure if that's ok though? 23. @@James Marusek I'm 2 weeks post-op. Actually yesterday I had milk alone to see if it was the trigger and it went in fine with no problems for the rest of the day. It seems the Protein shake and the porridge are the worst for me. I had MGB which is supposed to cause much less dumping syndrome. Called my doctor yesterday and he said to take nexium 40mg but I'm already taking omeprazol 40mg. He said well then change to nexium!!! I don't have any of the other symptoms you have mentioned. @@Maryetta I think no I'm still unable to get in my daily requirement of Water and protein Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
