  2. Ok so those are my pictures before and after... They're almost 5 months apart. Had my MGB April 30th and the other picture taken September 29th.. I'm happy with where I reached. Being able to wear nice clothes and still look good in them... I just hope I can maintain my weight and not lose more than few kilos Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. He said there is less risk of bleeding and leakage with MGB compared to sleeve. Which was true yet I had major bleeding issue after the surgery.. he said its reversible which I'm not sure of because some doctors now say it is and some say it's not! He said MGB is not associated with more malabsorption compared to RNY and sleeve .. and there is no need for life long supplementation and the only people that require life long supplementation are those who had a dueodenal switch. Obviously I came to know that that's not true! He said MGB causes a weight loss of around 60% of excess body weight which is the same as sleeve but has a better long term maintenance.. the first part wasn't true as I came to find out that MGB causes more weight loss than sleeve and RNY He did not tell me of the fact that I will no longer be able to absorb iron! Last but not least I started off with a BMI of 33.. now almost 6 months out I'm at a BMI of 23.9 and weigh 56 kg. I need to stop my weight loss but I'm struggling with that.. I am following up with a new doctor now and might need either a revision or a reversal soon! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. I did not!! Where did you get that info from... I was supposed to get a sleeve but my doctor convinced me into a MGB... Never had a surgery before Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I think they meant why did you choose the MGB rather than the sleeve or a rny bypass? What was your reasoning? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Well i went for a sleeve initially and 2 hours before my surgery my doctor talked me out of a sleeve and into a MGB. I liked the fact that it's reversible but every other information he gave me about MGB turned out not to be true and now I'm stuck with it regretting it and trying to figure out what to do next.. 5. Was wondering those of you who got pregnant after RNY what type of prenatal Vitamins were you taking? And in what form? Have you be advised to take liquid prenatal vitamins? I read that liquid Multivitamins are 98% absorbed while the tablet/pills/capsules are O lye 20%_30% absorbed.. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I was actually looking for someone who specifically had MGB since its pretty much different from RNY. My doctor said I can start trying after 3 months since I didn't have much to lose to start with. I'm 5 months post-op but haven't started trying yet just following up with my Oby-gyne .. though I'm planning for an IVF cycle two months from now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. I would like to hear from those who got pregnant or trying for pregnancy after Mini Gastric Bypass. It seems I can't find someone to talk to regarding this.. I need to know more about the medical care before during and after pregnancy. How far after MGB did you get pregnant? Have you had any fertility issues after MGB? It seems since I lost a lot of fat my estrogen levels went down and I'm having a thin lining now. I don't know if this is an issue that will resolve on its own by time since I'm only 5 months post-op Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  10. Ok so I went in for my first post-op blood work up.. The tests are done for free where I live. So I went to the GP with the doctors list of tests needed post-op which includes Iron levels. The GP said she will do a CBC first and only in case my HB was low then she will do an iron level test(to cut cost). However she did ordered for all Vitamin levels test in the doctors list. My Hb levels came back @12.4 so she said there is no need to test for iron levels. I have not been taking an iron supplement and my Multivitamins does not include iron. Does this mean that I'm still absorbing iron well from my food?! Do I really need an iron level test?! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. Some people have good iron absorption and don't need any, ever. I have, most of my life, had a Hb of 12-14 which is really on the high side for a woman. My hemophiliac half-sister dreams of having an 8. While anything is possible, I can't remember any situation from nursing school where someone could have a Hb of 12 and be iron deficient. I wouldn't think an iron test would be all that useful if you don't have any symptoms of iron deficiency and your H/H stays high. Then why do Bariatric doctors ask for ferritin levels test always. Why don't they check the Hb first and then order for ferritin tests if the Hb is low??!! That's why i got confused. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Are you a carrier of beta thalassemia ?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I suffer quite a bit more than just a carrier. But yes it is beta thalassemia.Sorry to hear about that. My grandmother is a carrier of beta thalassemia and suffered from low Hb all her life. I'm a carrier of sickle cell and unfortunately my child is sickle cell diseased.. His Hb will be 9 at its best.. 14. No I'm not post menopause nor did I have a hysterectomy Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. No. I only have Polysyctic ovaries which is not a co-morbidity. A little weight loss would've helped me a lot with my infertility. Most doctors agree that a gastric sleeve would've been a better option Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. I'm 11 weeks post op and only 2 kgs away from my goal weight at which I will be at a healthy BMI. I currently have no problem with eating and drinking. I get enough Protein from meat everyday so no Protein shakes for me (nasty stuff plus caused me to be nauseous and with tachycardia) I average around 1200-900 calories per day yet my weight loss hasn't slowed down or stopped.. How can I stop it now?! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Oh and since I'm posting this question in the Mini-Gastric bypass section it means I had a MGB Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. I'm actually thinking of suing him ! I went to him for a sleeve and have signed the papers for that. However he convinced me into MGB and told me information that wasn't right at all like there is no lifelong need for Multivitamins and weightloss is similar to sleeve but with an advantage of MGB being reversible where a sleeve is not. I have met with two other doctors after the MGB. Both said a reversal is difficult though theoretically it could be done Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Those shakes are packed with sugar .. Plus the 0 carb Protein Shakes didn't go well with me so I doubt that the high calorie ones will. I'm trying hard to increase my calories but it seems impossible currently.. I'm literally trying to stuff myself.. Maybe I should look into reversal as plan B Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. Starting weight was 77kg. Current weight 60kg. Goal weight 58kg . My height is 153cm I had a 1.8m loop (bypass) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. I read that Multivitamins it the form of pills or capsules are only 20% absorbed where as 98% is absorbed in the form of liquid and it bypasses the digestive processing and go straight to the blood stream. If that's the case how come most doctors don't mention or recommend multivitamins in the form of liquid instead of chewables and/or tablets? And instead of taking huge doses of Bariatric multivitamins (because our body doesn't absorb much of it) why don't we just take normal multivitamins in the form of liquid? 23. With MGB doctors usually bypass 5"-9" of the intestines. And I was just wondering what will happen if the doctor fixes a much shorter loop like 0.5"-1"??? The reason I'm asking is because I had a MGB at a BMI of only 33.. I had it done only after my doctor convinced me that it's a better option for me than VSG and I trusted him. Now I'm losing weight so fast that at 8 weeks out I'm only 5kgs away from my goal weight. I've consulted another doctor who surprisingly advised a revision to normal RNY!!!! I know a reversal of MGB (getting my stomach back) is an option but I had major bleeding complications following my MGB surgery and I'm thinking maybe just a revision to a shorter loop could be a better option! I'm currently having no problems in eating nor in getting 70 grams of Protein per day. I average around 1000-1200 calories and drink around 50-64 ounces of Water. I take in my Vitamins everyday. Yet I'm still losing so much weight and sorry for tmi but my stools are very greasy! So I assume I'm not absorbing any fat! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. When you say first few months how many months do you mean?? I'm 8 weeks out and planning a summer vacation in another 3 weeks and I worry I won't be able to cope . Also how were your labs the first few months? I'm taking all my Vitamins but worry with a super fast digestion my body won't be able to absorb any of it. Sorry for tmi but my stools are greasy.. Have you experienced that? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. May I aske how long does your digestion take. I mean from the moment you eat all the way to the "other end"? I timed mine and it takes somewhere between 2.5-3 hours. My doctor had a 5" (1.8m) loop on me.. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
