  1. Thanks for the advice one thing I do is drink plenty of Water for sure. Maybe I will try to stay on type of my Vitamins and drink some Protein because I really get sleepy sometimes

It seems that several individuals that underwent RNY gastric bypass surgery have experienced sleepiness after eating a meal. A search on the internet seems to give a variety of reasons rather than just one.

My only advise is to make sure that you are following the guidelines for daily Vitamin, Protein and Fluid requirements. This is extremely important.

Next, some people experience "reactive hypoglycemia" after surgery. After consuming a meal, your blood sugars can drop suddenly. Patients may experience any of these symptoms one to three hours after a meal high in carbohydrates: hunger, feeling shaky, dizziness, sleepiness, sweating, anxiety, feeling weak, confusion, heart palpitations, fatigue, aggression, tremors, fainting, or loss of consciousness.

  2. Hello, I am now 41 days out from surgery I am on solid foods. I get so sleepy sometimes when I eat. Does anyone else that type of effect after eating.

I am also quickly realize your brain has to catch up with your new pouch lol. I made myself a salad I thought I was only eating little but you literally can't eat no more than if you cup your hand and fill it sometimes not even that much.

I called myself making me a Protein snack pack unsalted nuts cheese sticks unprocessed meats... I am allergic to nuts and I have never been allergic to anything in my life.

  3. I had my surgery 4/4/2016 I feel better already. I have lost 33 pounds but keep in mind the Protein is essential its look putting gas in your car. I felt really tired one day then it dawned on me need more Protein. Well good luck on your weight loss journey. I thought about for a long time it is a mindset change and a life style change.

So I'm 50 y/o starting my journey to a thinner me! My surgery date is 4/14 and I'll be starting my 2 week liquid Protein diet tomorrow. I'm nervous but excited that it's finally here and I can see the light of a healthier, more active me around the corner. Anyone else starting this over 50? My husband is starting as well two weeks after me.

  4. Hello,

Congrats you did it!!! I am one month and one day from my surgery. I didn't,t have much pain but just drowsy after surgery as expected. I am now walking a little at least 4 days a week minimum about a mile. Just reminder Protein is essential gives you energy. I have learned that your brain has to catch up with your new pouch, it will tell you that you are hungry when your not. But your brain will catch up

So I'm 31 years old and from Hamilton Ontario. My weight was 264 lbs prior to pre op diet. I lost 8-9 lbs during the Optifast Diet that I was on for just over 10 days. I have always been a bigger girl and struggled to lose weight. The process through the bariatric clinic was just over a year after completing all the appointment. I had surgery on 05/03/2016 making it 2 days post op. I had gastric bypass and hiatus hernia repair. Everything went well and there were no complications. I am going home today 05/05/2016! The first night after surgery was quite painful, and slightly scary. as I had needed to use the washroom and almost fainted. Thankfully the nurse was there to help me. The second day was much better and was able to tolerate small sips of Decaf coffee. Gas pain is the only complaint I can really make but walking the halls really helps. Sipping Water also helps. I wish good luck to everyone

  5. I agree about the extra skin

Chiming in late, but I'm going to be 51 on Thursday, and will be having my surgery soon too! I have looked over on the 50 and over page, but not a lot of people post over there... maybe we need to bring it back to life with new blood :)

I'm so excited about my new chance to be slim, but a little bummed about the likelihood of all the excess skin. Someone needs to invent a magical skin shrinking cream for us! LOL

Good Luck! See you on the other side for sure!

    I am 61years young. I had surgery on 4/4/2016.

  6. no I haven't name my pouch . My brain finally catching up to my pouch the feeling hungry verses my new stomach. haha I had surgery on April 4

I'm 1 week out as of today. Had gastric bypass on 4/14. Down 11.5 lbs since day of surgery, 21.5 lbs since 4/4. So thankful to finally be losing!!

    I'm 5'7"

    Highest weight: 299

  7. Wowowow! I am feeling wonderful! I've been home for 5 days, had my surgery 7 days ago, and I've already lost almost 15lbs! I just felt like sharing... :)

I'm feeling pretty amazing, to be honest! I didn't have a perfect surgery. I had spleen bleeding, doc had to "shave" my liver for fat, and I had a hernia that I didn't even know about, so she fixed that too! I am beyond shocked that the pain only lasted a few days, and now I'm just managing being a bit tired, and making sure to get all my liquids and protein! (Sunday was the first day I could do this!)

To all of you who are pre-op and were nervous, like me, BREATHE EASY! It gets better!! The first few days are pretty brutal, in full honesty, but life is what you make of it and those days pass and then it's all uphill from there!!

... now if only I could figure out a way to stop craving "real food" like chicken and Beans and veggies and stuff! Oh I cannot WAIT until pureed phase, when I can move from my all sweet Protein shake and liquids diet!

    <3 <3

I had my surgery April 4th 2016. The only thing I slept for a couple of days after surgery. I had one pain my foot cramped real bad one night that's it on my journey

  9. Unfortunately, I am just one week out today. The problem I am having is I have no desire to eat or drink. Which is causing me to feel light headed and drained. I have started making myself eat cottage cheese and more Water. At this point I have no idea what my limit is. No matter how I am feeling about food right now I make myself drink at least 2 Protein shakes. If the calorie intake is too much for you decrease it. Only eat as much as you can and making it the right choices of food. Hopefully I helped a little and good luck.

    Darnella
