  1. Hello.... I was diagnosed with hiatal hernia and GERD after an upper endoscopy 2 months ago. I was sleeved on 4/20/16 and was feeling pretty good a few days post op with just a little soreness - except I was really tired of all the broths and Protein shakes. Thinking that I just needed to get SOMETHING down, I cheated a little and started sipping French Onion Soup - strained of course. My stomach has been on fire for 2 days now. Like the no sleeping type of on fire... although I had been taking my Nexium faithfully every day. After several hours in the ER, 4 doses of anti-nausea/vomiting & a double dose of Protonix along with a CT to make sure of no leakage, I wondered if the onion Soup was the culprit? Onions (and other foods known for heartburn) obviously are not a heartburn trigger for all with GERD/acid reflux, but please be mindful of your diet and avoid any foods that will irritate your already angry tummy. It never crossed my mind since vegetable broth was clearly marked as an approved liquid.

  2. The pain was not as bad as I thought it would be. I stayed overnight after surgery and was given morphine every 2 hrs. I switched over to hydrocodone before leaving the hospital and my pain level got better every day. I stopped the pain meds altogether 4 days out. I do still have soreness but the pain went to discomfort to soreness very quickly. You'll be fine!

  3. @@akaESKIMOkiss You're feeling a lot better today? I'm excited for you!

On Friday, UMR said they should have faxed an approval letter to my surgeon. Spoke with my surgeon's office this morning, and they NEED a mailed letter - so, i'm waiting to receive it or them to receive it. I'm hoping that my surgery date isn't months from now or anything.[/quote

Mine got me in very quickly after they received notification - as a matter of fact, they could have gotten me in the very next week but left me no time to prepare to leave work.

  4. I'm April 20th 10 am. I only had to do liquid diet for three days. Not as difficult as I thought it would be as strange as it sounds!

Surgery was at 10 am yesterday (Wednesday 4/20), I left the hospital today (Thursday 4/21) around 4 pm. I do have constriction in my esophagus which was discovered during an upper endoscopy in February. They had to bring the Endo Team in to intubate me for surgery. My throat is pretty swollen and sore. Pain was under control with morphine every 2 hours. This morning prior to my X-ray to confirm no leaks I began to feel nauseated. I believe this was due to being NPO all Wednesday into Thursday. I am exhausted from all the interruptions in sleep (nurses checking your vitals, etc) I came home and took a 4 hour nap. I got up to take some meds and plan to go back to bed. With the esophageal constriction I have not been able to take in many fluids but my surgeon said that will come. I will concentrate on resting up tonight and my Fluid intake tomorrow.

  5. My surgery is this Wednesday. I'm pretty open to telling people what I'm having done. Feedback has mostly been positive. Sometimes you need to do things for you and take care of yourself. In this case, you are giving yourself a gift, as well as giving your children a gift. You will be able to live longer and run around and keep up with them, which is what is most important - to be the parent they need. Good for you! Never feel like you need to explain your actions in regards to your health. You will soon be transformed and all will see the benefits very soon!
