Are you seeing a therapist? I recommend your anxiety and depression should be under control (meds + therapy = better outcome) before you make a major decision for your surgery.

If you didn't have WLS, those 70 pounds would put much more force on your joints, making your pain worse. All the more reason to keep losing weight.

Did anyone's insurance call...
jea(n__n)ette replied to bridgetsband's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm private pay so I can't say yes. However a nurse from the insurance company calling sounds suspicious to me, if only because I watched the documentary Sicko and the doctor that advised the company to deny an expensive life saving surgery, himself got a bonus for saving the insurance company some money. -
My first fill appointment is set 6 weeks from surgery date. Three more weeks to go for me.

How many CCs does everyone have?
jea(n__n)ette replied to J3nnif3r8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What's considered green zone? I'm post-op 3 weeks so no fill yet until my first fill appointment in 3 weeks. I don't feel hungry and have to make myself eat. I've lost 14 pounds so far. -
Any tips on what to drink besides water and suger free koolaid?

In addition to what everyone says, I also like diet Fuze iced tea. It comes in cans (not carbonated) and bottles. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -
LOVE [emoji173] it! Post-op day 17 and I still don't feel hungry.

My RD said that once I reach maintenance I should aim for 1,000-1,200 calories. @@Lisi200 I think you should only weight yourself once a week, and don't focus so much on scale numbers. You can still be losing inches. Gaining muscle mass will help you burn more calories, but keep in mind that muscle is much more dense and heavier than fat. In my information book from my RD it said caffeine causes hunger. Never heard that before, but I'm avoiding it anyway. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App

Reaching you goal weight is a marathon, not a nonstop sprint. As long as you are not gaining weight but are continuing to eat healthy and exercise, I wouldn't worry so much. You also have the fill appointment to talk to your surgeon. I have read threads about people who try to "reset" their weight loss by going through all 5 stages of the Bariatric diet again but in a span of 7-10 days. Perhaps someone remembers what it's called?

I am 8 days SILS lapband post op, how does my belly button wound look?
jea(n__n)ette replied to shannicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 3 incisions, not 1. Your incision looks fine. As long as it doesn't start oozing pus, blood, smell bad, feels hot, or the redness starts spreading on the skin, then you are healing alright. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -
Week 2 post surgery
jea(n__n)ette replied to Horton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know if they are butterfly bandages, steri-strips, or another bandage. Best to call the office and ask to verify. I don't feel hunger for the last 2 weeks. My Registered Dietitian emailed me a nearly 80 page PDF file regarding nutrition and post-op meal plans for all 5 stages of the diet. I also googled and found many websites with the most of the same information. I was instructed by my surgeon's office and the RD to use chewable Calcium, chewable Multivitamin, and B12 that's either injectable, intranasal, or sublingual. Make sure the multivitamin has Iron in it, and space it away from calcium. The Bariatric Pal website has an online store. -
Doctor Discouraged Lap Band Procedure
jea(n__n)ette replied to marg294ever's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had my procedure recently and 1.5 months ago my surgeon also recommended the sleeve. His first reason was he thought I'd lose more weight on the sleeve versus the band (he claims the average weight loss is 50 pounds, and hunger never goes away). The second reason was due to his experience level. He has a lot of experience performing gastric sleeve, and it's the most popular WLS in my area. For the lap band, he told me he's removed more bands than he put in. Most of those bands removed are from people that went to Reynosa, Mexico. I could have saved money by going across the border, but I didn't want to risk getting kidnapped or die from hemorrhage, sepsis, or pulmonary embolism. I'm also post op day 15! However my experience is the opposite and unexpected for me. I only felt hungry twice, and each time I stayed awake several hours past when I first felt sleepy. I'm barely starting on pureed diet even though my surgeon gave me the go ahead on POD 9 (0.5 cup of mashed potatoes was so painful I went back to full liquid until POD 12). Because I don't feel hungry, I have to force myself to eat two to four 0.5 cup meals. I told my surgeon I don't feel hungry, and he pretty much said to come in the office for fills whenever I do feel hunger. My first fill appointment is in 3.5 weeks.

"That's on your diet!"
jea(n__n)ette replied to Cape Crooner's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I work in a hospital. Even non bariatric nurses have no clue in regards to all the information and education we go through. On post op day 8 I attended a Novena (for a coworker and friend that passed away the day before my procedure) and brought crab rangoon I made for my coworkers. Being in the full liquid stage, I served myself half a cup of decaffeinated Starbucks coffee, the only item on the dining table I could have. When I answered questions about my diet, one of them blurted out, "So you just drank Water for 2 weeks?" I wanted to bang my head on the table. -
TMI : 4 days post-op -- can I have prune juice?
jea(n__n)ette replied to Kooky1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take docusate sodium in liquid form (later as your diet allows you can take the capsule or tablet version). It won't make you go, but it's a stool softener so that when you do go, you aren't going to strain hard and add pain to your abdomen. -
Pre-op constipation
jea(n__n)ette replied to mmorris4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you never had constipation before, then Miralax should work and it's OTC. Post-op you'll have constipation again for the same reason you are now, liquid diet and hardly any solids can form in your bowels. You might want to get liquid docusate sodium post op. It won't make you have a BM, but when you do you shouldn't have to strain and put undue pressure on your abdomen. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -
I use Aqualert and I LOVE it. There are free and paid versions (ads versus no ads). You can set your phone to vibrate, play audio, or both. My favorite audio is of Water being poured. I can set the daily start and stop times, the frequency of the reminders, the amount of Fluid to be consumed, and if I want Aqualert to adjust fluid intake goals based on weight and exercise intensity from Google Fit app. The app also records your fluid intake and you have the option of saving data to your Google drive/cloud. My next step is to get a smart watch so I can use it with Aqualert and Google Fit.

What kind of exercises can a 300 pounder do?
jea(n__n)ette replied to crazygoose's topic in Fitness & Exercise
As long as your incisions are healed you can jump in the pool! Water buoyancy makes you feel like you weigh less, so it's less effort on your body to jump up and move. If you know how to swim, your pace can be strenuous or as relaxed as you want it to be. If you don't swim, "walking" in the water will give you some resistance. And with summer approaching, it's a nice way to cool off -
Could be slippage. Hopefully it's something your doc can help you resolve soon. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App

Stage 4 any techniques to meet fluid goal?
jea(n__n)ette replied to yami17leth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use an an app called Aqualert. You can adjust all settings, but the way I have it set up is that between 8 am and midnight, my phone will play an audio clip of water pouring every 15 minutes. This reminds me to drink 60 ml (2 oz or 1/4 cup) of fluids. I won't necessarily take sips every 15 minutes to factor in for times such as meals, naps, etc. The app is highly customizable and I recommend it to keep track of your fluid intake. -

Your coworker has low self esteem. The only way she knows how to make herself feel better is to bully and make others feel as low as she is. Ignore her. -
I'm post-op day 10, and pain at the port site has come back with a vengeance. Between POD 5 to 9 I was able to sit myself up from bed without pain and without pillow splinting my port. Yesterday I drove myself to my first post-op appointment, which made me tired and I had discomfort in my left shoulder and port site during the office follow up. Took a restful nap, and had a friend help me with groceries since I was OK'ed to start Bariactric stage 3 pureed. Exhausted when I got home. Ate half a cup of mashed potatoes and showered. Went to bed with bad cramps at the port site and woke up this morning with worse cramps, it feels like my abdominal fascia is twitching. Since the procedure I have lost 10 pounds and I can see the bump on my abdomen made by the port since POD 7. Anyone have their pain return or come in and go during recovery? I'm trying to avoid taking Tylenol #3, and I'm not sure if I should put a Salonpas patch over the port. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App
