Hi everyone,
I am currently in the Soft food phase of my post op diet (I was sleeved on October 18th). Before surgery, I did enjoy Halo Top Ice Cream. My question is: At what point can I have some Halo Top? (If at all). Would it be considered a “soft food” or should I just wait until I’m on solids?GreenTealael reacted to this -
My nausea was pretty terrible for the first week after surgery. My surgeon prescribed me “Reglan” and it helped so much and my nausea is gone as of now.

Hello everyone!!
So for the 3rd time I’m attempting to get WLS. This time I’m hoping to have surgery at Valley Care- Stanford Medical in Pleasanton, CA. Does anyone have experience with the surgeons or the overall program there? My choices are Dr. Yen-Chung Lee or Mary Estakhri. Has anyone had surgery with either of these surgeons? Currently, I’m scheduled to see Dr. Lee on July 11. -
my plan was 3x Protein drink (specific ones IdealFast, I think they are only for Canada) and 1cup of boiled or raw veggies.
Thanks for your input. How long was your pre op diet?

I am starting my pre-op on Monday. My surgeon wants me to do Protein Shakes for Breakfast and lunch then a sensible dinner. I’m thinking it shouldn’t be to bad. But still nervous as heck.
When are you scheduled for surgery?
I’m not currently scheduled (it’s a long story of being approved for surgery but backing out) but this time when I meet the surgeon I want to be at least close to the goal weight he gave me before. Did your surgeon recommend a particular Protein Drink? I know you will be fine, it’s just about getting used to your new eating habits.

Hi Everyone!
I haven’t logged into this website in quite some time but I am back on the journey to wls. Would any of you mind posting the pre-op diet you followed? It would be a great help to me as I need to get as much weight off as possible.
Thanks in advance!

I am looking to change health insurance..what health insurance doesn't require 6 month weigh ins in ny for gastric sleeve

I'm not sure where you live but if you live in Northern California (particularly the Bay Area), I know for sure Kaiser doesn't require the 6 months weigh ins. They do have you lose about 10-20% of your excess weight tho. Depending on how long you take to do that and assuming you attend all other appointments (orientation, surgeon, nutrition and psych) they'll schedule your surgery asap after meeting the steps I just mentioned.

After I completed my 6 month diet, I was submitted within a week and approved in 24 hours. My surgery was scheduled for the next month.

Hi @bekah7482...I have heard nothing but great things about dr. dutta. I don't think you should be nervous about the support group. The support groups are always positive and they are filled with very knowledgeable, personable and friendly people. Although, I highly recommend that you attend the support group at Kaiser Fremont that meets on various Fridays. Good luck to you and please keep us posted!

@Phoenix40....I am sooo happy for you! I think a Feb surgery date would be doable. Hopefully I won't be too far behind you (still struggling with the pre op weight loss).

@Phoenix40...I called the Bariatric weight tracking line to report that I was within 5 pounds of the goal weight. The medical assistant called me the next day and gave me a psych appointment that was about two weeks later.

@nandy...yes I completed my psych evaluation. I don't remember exact questions she asked me but she focused on my relationship with food. She asked me about all of the diets I have done and failed at, how i was coping with the pre op diet that is low carb & high Protein. She also explained to me how I need to find various ways to cope with stress besides eating (I am an emotional eater). I was prescribed "Wellbutrin" for depression and was completely honest about my depression history and the psych still deemed me "mentally prepared" for surgery.

I am currently still in the process of trying to get surgery at Kaiser Fremont. The program there is awesome and the people will take good care of you. All of the surgeons there would be great choices for your surgery. All of your appointments would be at Kaiser Fremont and they also have an excellent support group that meets there on various fridays throughout the month. Overall I highly recommend the Kaiser Fremont Bariatric program.

@nandy...yes they weighed me at orientation. At that weight I was given a goal weight that I needed to be at before they scheduled surgery (about 15 pounds for me). It would be ok to start dieting now because they go by your highest Kaiser recorded weight documented in the last year. If you haven't been weighed at Kaiser in the last 12 months, I would recommend to put a pause on the dieting until after orientation.

Hi Michelle,Hello, Im sitting here nervous. I'm drawing a blank as what to pack. What are the main necessities to pack. Thank you for all your help.
It took me a minute to realize that you are the same person I was talking to at the last support group meeting at Kaiser fremont. I must say I am incredibly proud of your progress and I am really sending best wishes your way for the big day tomorrow! Hope to catch up with you at the next meeting! Good luck and keep us posted!

That is so true (finally someone who understands me lol). I tried talking to the Dietician at my program and all she can tell me is to spread the calories throughout the day (6 meals instead of 3 meals) and to focus on Protein (I understand that but protein is not always super satiating like they say imo). Everyone I have encountered at my program who had the surgery basically admits to starving themselves to get the initial weight off (the calorie deficit is too drastic). I wholeheartedly admit that I am an emotional eater and stress is a trigger to overeat for me. *Deep sigh* it really is a mental and physical battle.Audaciousmarie, I know, I think it's too low calorie. It's like we need to work down to that. Can't go from the amount of calories I am consuming down to what they say. There is no Counseling for emotional eaters. It's in our head, not our stomache

I am going through the EXACT same thing. I cannot seem to stay focused enough to lose the weight. The pre op diet they put me on has me soooooooo hungry throughout the night that I end up eating in the middle of the night. Ugh..so frustratingWell, guess I am not getting surgery. I cant seem to lose the 15 pounds molina wants me to lose. I dont know what the problem is. Maybe my thyroid. If I could lose the 15 pounds, I would keep doing it over and over. Isn't this why Ian having surgery??? Because I can't lose the weight on my own?? Sorry, had to vent. I am so frustrated

Regalan for Nausea
in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Posted
I took Reglan by mouth and it didn’t taste bad at all. The tablets were small and easy to swallow in my opinion. Did your doctor prescribe the Scopolamine patch? That helped me as well with the nausea.
