How long until surgery?
audaciousmarie replied to Pinkberry2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It all depends on your insurance and your surgeon's office. When my info was submitted to insurance (on a Friday) I was approved on Monday. I had a surgery date about a week later. I went through UHC. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App WOW i hope mines moves that fast! Thanks for replying Little tia You are welcome. I hope it moves even faster for you than it did for me. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App -

I was thinking about that too because after she was renewed for the 3rd season I was thinking "Well what else can she document on her show?"...but now I see they are going after the shock factor. Maybe the 4th season will be about going on this extreme diet...such is show business I guess smh. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App -

Please be very careful with this.....it is different depending on the Insurance plan you're on. Just because some insurance plans just use your initial weight doesn't mean yours will.....For example with mine I had to ensure my BMI never dropped below 40 during the whole process. Finally once they submitted my paperwork to the insurance for approval I was in the clear.....I didn't start my pre-op diet (liver shrinking) until after the approval. So you need to make sure you check with your insurance and your bariatric team regarding your specific requirements. It would be terrible to go through that long process and a lack of understanding be the reason you're not approved. Good luck to you! Keep us posted on how you're doing. Thanks for that info. I have never heard of am insurance making you stay at at least a 40 bmi (although I know ins. companies look for the slightest reason to deny smh). If you don't mind...what insurance was this? I'm just curious Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App -

Thanks so much! I definitely hope that my story lets others around me know they are not alone in this battle. Kaiser is a little bit different so I havent received a date yet. I just need to lose about 10 more pounds and then I will get my date. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App I'm sure there are other people who will greatly appreciate you telling your story and will feel less alone! Oh ok! Good luck! I'm not sure what kind of diet you're on but what works best for me is cutting the carbs! And I loooooveeeeee Pasta so it's so hard but always think of the end result! A confident and healthier you! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App Thanks so much! I completely agree...cutting carbs does work best for me. Especially because I have been pre diabetic before and when I cut my carbs and increased Protein..my A1C went down so fast. I'm just trying to stay focused on the low carb, 3 meals a day plan my surgeons's office has me on so I can get my date!☺ Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App -

I appreciate you sharing your experience. Actually you do share a very interesting perspective. Perhaps some of us deal with stress by eating but it sucks when the type of eating we are doing is killing us. I really hope Whitney realizes her beauty and her worth and that she doesnt have to be this bad off. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App -

Exactly! I was disappointed in her reaction to the funeral. Instead of taking ownership and thanking them for loving her enough to care she gets pissed and tries to say Buddy is fat enough to be on death's door too. Idk either if I will continue to watch this show....its so sad. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App -

You are one of the lucky ones to have had a great doctor who was on your side:) Some programs are so strict about the at least 40 bmi if no comorbidities. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App I do think my doctor is great. I cried in his office the first consult because talking about my weight is really hard for me and he comforted me and reassured me I'd be healthy again. Also, I do have PCOS, 4 herniated discs, and I was pre- diabetic at the time of my blood work. I think by the time I got around to dealing with my weigh and getting sleeved, my insurance was like "yeah sure, if it'll stop her from going to all these other doctors all the time." Hahaha but I did get a little lucky! I was extremely nervous of getting denied. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App So how far out are you and what is a critical word of advice you could give? Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App I didn't go through with the surgery at that point. I just wasnt mentally prepared. However, 3 years later, I am back at it trying to get a surgery date with a different insurance. This time I am going through Kaiser. Even though I have not had the surgery yet I can still offer a piece of advice: Be absolutely sure this is exactly what you want and that you are really ready for this permanent change. Three years ago I thought I was ready until I was sitting in a hospital waiting room with my overnight bag, crying my eyes out because I was so scared. It took me 3 years to realize that I am truly ready for this change in a way I was not before. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App -

It is so funny how insurance makes us jump through all of these hoops to get surgery but if they just looked a little closer and realized all of the money they would save in prescriptions, doctor visits, testing, etc if we could just get the surgery lol..but I digress. I may have turn it off. Very uncomfortable to watch... The episode this week has me giving Whitney the side eye???? for real (and I have yet to miss an episode of her show). While I do enjoy the message of "No BS"..that does not give her a reason to be reckless with her health (eating pizza in the middle of the night after JUST passing out and coming from the ER) because she wants to be fat. Whitney's career is sort of based on her being fat but the message for NO BS would still be the same if she lost weight. It was my understanding that NO BS applies to every body type. Perhaps she needs to change the meaning of her NO BS to NO Bull**** because she needs to stop sending the message to her audience that eating in a unhealthy way and gaining weight is fine because there should be no body shame. Whitney has become comfortable in her newfound celebrity and she uses that as excuse to remain "the fat girl" but if she doesn't watch herself...it could kill her. I'm still pre op as well and trying to decide between sleeve and bypass too. My surgeon was no help to me as he thinks either procedure will work well for me. What do you mean by "People can go off a little mentally with bypass?" Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App Like crazy. They're not sure why but it has happened. Not really frequent and it stands out for me because I have a depression and anxiety diagnosis so that's how it came up for me. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App Oh ok...well thanks for the clarification. I guess this just reinforces the fact that I need to make finding the right therapista high priority for post op life. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App

I know its annoying to have to wait even longer for the surgery you have worked so hard to receive. However I think you should look at this from an entirely different perspective. When you have the surgery you want to be sure that you are at your healthiest and that all potential roadblocks have been taken care of (i.e. sleep apnea). You dont want to rush into a procedure and your body not be totally ready for this. Wls can be lifesaving but its still a surgery and a very big deal September will be here before you know it.
