  1. Thanks for the words, but I was specifically looking for "woodsmoke", "peanut", or "gasoline". You get the consolation prize for playing, though!

    Pjtp...again!

Thanks. I had my laptop @ work and webcam'd a couple of snaps. I try to keep fairly recent pics in my LBT photo album. I can see subtle signs of progress, and I like that. I haven't forgotten. Tug is so dark that he needs to be photographed w/ a real camera, and I'm not so good with my wife's. I'll talk her into some snaps and post. He's my good, good boy. I am and it does. I'm traing to learn echocardiograms.....it's pretty cool, but I'm still learning the politics (lots of people wanted / applied for this job, so I'm the source of much envy and bitterness.....but somebody had to get chosen) of the job. The cool thing is that echo / respiratory / sleep medicine all fall under the umbrella of the same department, so I already know all the folks involved.

    Pjtp...again!

I suspect they charge more because they can. Have you ever seen the documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? It certainly looks like George Bush did (and....I'm pretty politically conservative. I'm not just saying that as a "Bush hater"). Nah, I'm still here! Even though I am very reluctant to share personal info of any kind on here (for the obvious reasons), here's the inside deal: I usually only access LBT from work, since in my extremely rual home, my internet is pretty slow (and LBT in particular seems to be a slow loader for me). I am usually at work in the sleep lab Mon-Thurs night, so that's when I jump on LBT. Very recently, I've had a change in work. I"m being cross-trained in another area (I know that kind of change appeals to you, tap). Basically, I'm splitting my week.....Mon - Tues, I'm on days and Wed - Thurs, I'm on nights. Long story to say that I'll basically only be on LBT on Wednesday and Thursday nights . What game did you see?? I <heart> college football. Sicko. I'll never be able to retire. I've already signed up for a corpse / work program to continue working after I'm deceased.

    No protein?

It's all about the healing. The docs want your stomach to be healing, not working on digesting (even liquid protein has to be broken down). Also, there is probably a question of nausea.....they want to be very careful not to do anything that might trigger that. Seems like all docs have a different schedule for advancing the diet, but almost everybody has to do clear liquids for a time.

    Betrayal is a BITCH

Well that's the question! Some people ALWAYS think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. I think that says more about them than anything else. However, I'm not so sure that's what's going on in office dude's case. I agree w/ Ebony: the timing is certainly suspect. Let's review. Office dude tells you flat out from the start that he doesn't want a relationship or to have anything to do with your kids. That's "guyspeak" for "I just want to have sex". So you meet somebody new, tell office dude and he now not only wants a relationship, he not only will accept your kids (weird that he said "accept", not "love" or "mentor" or anything like that.....but I digress), but that he is actually in love with you. And he spills all this only 3 months later?!? This sounds like a game to me (although I am an admitted pessimist), Tina.
  11. Hang in there neesh! Eating real food too soon can interfere with your band healing in properly. Like 20zmom said, Protein shakes help with the hunger. You can do it!

    Are Bananas bad?

Well....there's carbs and there's carbs. Like several have said, bananas are good for you. Don't sweat 'em. If you're feeling guilty about the carb count, cut back elsewhere, but not in the fruits and veg department.
  13. So wise, grasshopper. It seems you have snatched the virtual stone from my palm. Now, the student has truly become the teacher. Well done. Uh, are you actually apologizing for coming to a support site for some support? That's why we're here. You might get some flack, or some tough love, or cyberhugs. The range of both the statements and the responses is part of the beauty.

    dieting while on lapband?

Interesting question. I guess it comes down to "what do you consider a diet". Like some others in this thread, I wouldn't say that I'm a diet, per se, but I do try to eat low fat, high Protein, and squeeze in some fruit and veggies. Considering how I used to eat pre-band, you could argue that I am kind of on a diet. Like I said, interesting question....

    New to the Community

Hi Mya, welcome to lapbandtalk! When it comes to kids, you will be restricted in how much weight you can lift right after surgery (so as not to dislodge the stitches). So if your kids are very young and require physical picking up and holding, you might want to start thinking about people that can help with that. Other than that, the only other issue you might have is preparing meals for the kids. There may be times pre and post op when you'll be on liquids, and preparing real food can be torture, lol. Also, (and I don't know if this is applicable in your situation) once you're banded, you'll need to eat healthier food.....so there could be a change in diet for the whole family. That's all I can think of right now.
  16. The whole reason that you're not supposed to eat real food soon after your surgery is because digesting that food causes your stomach to move and contract. This stomach movement can possibly interfere with your band healing in correct position. So, it's better if you closely follow your doc's post-op dietary guidelines.

    Approved!!!! Hooray!

Ok Irish, my fingers are officially crossed for you.
  18. I believe that it refers to high blood pressure that is resistant to meds (I could easily be wrong, though).

    Pjtp...again!

PJTP: Ebony, that soy protein powder is called "Naturade". They have it in vanilla and chocolate (I prefer vanilla for my 'berry' smoothies). I get it at Sam's Club
  21. My associates would tell you that my third designation is JAKASS. My hospital is in Texarkana, TX (although I live about 45 mins away in a very small, very rual community). Grapevine is only about 3 hrs away.

PS- all my respiratory friends thought I had lost my mind when I switched over to sleep.

  22. Uh yeah okay. I peeked at the stats and saw you're an ol' RT hand. I don't associate w/ your kind, missy. (LOL)

  23. Well, first thing you have to realize is that I'm an old fart. Sure I have the much-coveted (hee! Sarcasm!) RRT/ RPSGT designation, but in my advanced age I seem to be getting a little senile. Best I can recollect, I've been working in the sleep lab for about 8 yrs and respiratory for about 7yrs. I don't do a whole lot of respiratory work anymore, but every now and again I'll get called to draw an especially difficult ABG (my sleep lab is hospital-based). Are you respiratory or sleep or both or neither?
