I was told by my surgeon's office that as of January 15th, BC/BS changed their requirements and the 6 month diet is mandatory. I live in Nj, but I'm assuming that it allpiles to all states. Call you surgeons office for more details.

I got my surgery date on my 1st visit to the surgeon. I was given a list of the requirements to fulfill before the surgery date (Nutritionist, Psych eval, etc) and the only things i need now are my last 2 monthly visits. The day of my last doctors appointment is the day I'll do my pre-op testing (blood test, chest x-ray & EKG). Keep me posted & let me know if you need any more info. :thumbup:

I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield of NJ. You have to have 6 consecutive monthly doctor visits with weigh ins, modifications, caloric intake, etc. (Your drs office should give you the requirements, mine did). I went to my 1st seminar in February on the Lap Band, made my 1st doctors appointment for the next week and I only have 2 more to go, June & July. My surgery is August 1st. Good luck!! :thumbup:

Dumb question maybe, but here goes...My surgery is Aug 1st and I need my pre-op testing done within 30 days of surgery. Someone told me I can't do pre-op testing until I'm APPROVED for surgery, because what if I'm not approved. The hospital said I need my medical clearence by 7/17 from my PCP. The problem is, I'm going on vacation the week before my surgery, therefore I was going to get the pre-op testing done at my July 3rd doctors appt, which will be my 6th & final PCP appointment which is required by my insurance. Does this make sense? Can anyone shed light on this crazy situation for me??? Thanks! :confused2:

My surgery is August 1st at 8:30 am (but who's counting??). I had my 4th drs appointment for my monthly drs appointment today and she said I'm doing great! I can't wait! All of you Bansters keep me going everyday!!

I finally have a surgery date...August 1st at 8:30 am (But who's counting). I'm on my way with my 6 month diet plan and I can't wait!! I hope I can hold on till then. Wish me luck!! I'll be a "Summer Bander" :eek:

Wish me luck....I'm going tomorrow for my consultation. I've already done the seminar & it's my 1st meeting with the doctor. I have all my doctor letters to bring with weights & diets. Please cross your fingers for me that all goes well & the surgery is soon!! :thumbdown:

Can someone please tell me what the 6 month doctor supervised diet consists of? Are there specials papers to fill out or is a doctor's note sufficient? I have BC/BS NJ...help!

My insurance BC BS of Nj requires a 6 month diet plan before approval. Well....today I got a letter from my Psychiatrist stating he has been treating me for anxiety and weight issues since 2004. (He even wrote all 16 dates). He said in the letter that "She has been given instruction over this time for weight reduction" and "She has been unsuccessful in using diet and exercise to achieve a normal body mass"...Do you think this will be good enough??What if my PCP write something similar and includes weight??? Helpp...I need opinions! Thanks!!:cursing:

Thanks a lot Nuff! I hve been overweight my whole life & my dad died at age 52 from heart disease, so I think that's a plus to me (that doesn't sound right...LOL)

I went to the seminar last week and 1 of the requirements for surgery is being morbidly obese for 5 years. I don't think I have been morbidly obese for 5 years, but DEFINITELY way overweight. Only morbidly obese for the past 2-3 years. Do you think that will make a difference? I have or will have all the othet requirements done, plus high bp & on meds...help! Neep opinions...
