  1. Have Mirena and did not have to take mine out for surgery (June 30th). However I know some who DID have to remove it prior to surgery so talk to your surgeon just to be sure.

Another person in my group asked if it could be a contributing factor to her non weight loss as she had it put in AFTER her surgery, so you can ask your surgeron that question as well.

  2. @@NewLA thank you! I will look at their sites for info. Do you like the meetings that you attend so far?

I enjoy the Silver Spring one....it's a tad tricky because most of the patients are Kaiser and I don't have there guidelines, Im committed to attend support groups for the first year, so I'm going to check out the new one at Southern MD hospital that is right near my house.

  3. Hi there! Just joined bariatric pal & was so happy to see posts from fellow Marylanders! I go to school in Catonsville, but I live in Frederick & am being sleeved by Dr. Stephen McKenna sometime in October. I've done most of my pre-op clearance stuff. Only the pulmonologist and cardiologist left! I go for a stress test this coming Monday, but I'm not really worried about any of it. My insurance required a six month waiting period, so I've been at this for a few months now. I'll have my clearance appointment at the end of September and I can't wait!

Nice to meet all of you! Wishing you all the best luck!

  4. So who chose the 3 month diet versus 6? You the patient or the surgeon? So I started my 6 month with my PCP but my BMI is 42.6 with no cormorbids. I am 5'7 so i really have to maintain and not lose to much. I am afraid when I start in January with the surgeons office I will be heavier than when I started with pcp.

My insurance coverage was for 3 months. My PCP had given me a referral for weight loss surgery.

I worked directly with my surgeon and his office (all I had to get from my PCP was my 2 year Weight hx...which showed I'd been obese for years). I did my 3 NUT visits (with a 4th cause I gained weight...don't gain weight, as well as all the other testing required in that 3 month period.

    My BMI was 45,

  5. In my 90 days I stayed between

    Cardiac Clearance

    Chest/Abdominal/Leg X Ray's

    EGD and Upper Something

    2 Support Groups

    Pulmonary Clearance

    2 year Weight History

    Psych eval

2 Support Groups (I think this is a surgeron requirement)

3 weigh ins with no net gain...

I think that's about it...I don't have my list in front of me

  6. As people give advice...ie. shakes only, stay on liquids at this phase, don't do this.....we should be mindful that we all work with different surgeons who allow us to progress based on each there recommendations.

I'm 3 weeks post op and continue to do well. I'm able to eat soft foods even though Beans are my favorite thing right now. Soft meat is about to be introduced and I hope that helps get more Protein in as I can only get about 1 shake in a day.

This journey is individual to us all...enjoy the continued feelings of feeling good on this new Road ahead!!!!
