Elle09 got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in Why do some folks try to ruin this forum?
I am recently sleeved and will probably say I have been lucky in that I had a great medical program I went through and felt prepared from all aspects of the surgery, nutrition needs and physical aspects. I have a direct line to my surgeon, NUT, program coordinator, and exercise physiologist. Even with my core medical group in place I am thankful for this forum and new friends that I have met, that understand where I am at in my journey and for the veterans who understand where this journey will take me and can provide guidance.
I spent over a year reading and researching before I finally decided to take this wls journey. Part of researching was trolling through this forum before signing up and learning about real experiences from people who had already gone through this (the vets.). The information they share is priceless and btw free.
I have seen posts from vets that were not so nice, posts from newbies not so nice and posts from people who have yet to have wls surgery and posts information in an authoritative voice as if they know everything about wls and have had years of success. To me the latter is the worst.
I have learned to take what information I need and leave what I don't need and for the rest chalk it up for entertainment purposes.
P.S. - I drank from a straw and lived to tell about! I know I am not suppose to drink from straws not because a veteran told me not to because "my doctor ", said it was a no no! The age old battle "to straw or not straw will continue." I won't recommend it.

@@jintycb I have no idea what you are sayin'... but I think I agree!
@@kmorri Don't apologize for posting this, and I appreciate your recent observations. My main point isn't that we are perfect because we have more "years" but rather - can't we give each other the benefit of the doubt? Like the person who reemed me for posting about dating on the singles forum. Ya, I get that you can't tell what forum you are in from your phone, but rather than lecturing, how about assuming that I am NOT an idiot until proven otherwise?
I totally get how emotional this whole "life changing" business is, and I do genuinely try to cut people some slack, let stuff roll off, I just ask for a little of that in return toward us "vets". There is a reason you see few people more than a year or two out - get sick of being lambasted. I am just trying to make it to my 5 years (band to sleeve revision) in December of this year.
The reason I hang out here is that a few people on this very forum influenced me to have the surgery that saved my life, helped me lose half my body weight, which led to the wonderful life i have now. I hope that I can have that impact on just one person. Also, I still need support too!

It's not a forum for vets that is needed, it's one for glaikit bairns. I see that whilst I have been in the land of nod, one of the latest bairns has been busy posting its usual load of old cobblers.
It's just past 7am here in Surrey in the UK and I'm in my usual position of arse wedged in bed, cuppa in hand, three dogs, two cats, one husband all grabbing last bits of shut eye taking up large amounts of bed. I love waking up to find a good discussion that has been going on that my fellow WLS associates from other parts of the globe have been indulging in whilst I have been getting my very much needed beauty sleep.
I know which posts have been helpful to me on this forum and who have been the most helpful responders. These do not include (in any form) the warm fuzzy pussyfooting samaritan enablers with their sometimes, to me, quite inane, 'advice'. I often have a quick peek to see where these guys are in their journey and see that they haven't even got as far as having surgery! So WTF right have they got to be dishing out advice on something that they have no personal experience of!!!!!! When did they qualify as medical professionals? Huh? Give me a good old fashioned vet who has had practical experience of WLS any time and if they behave like a sargeant major so be it. If I post a serious question I want a serious answer. I don't need to be given a cuddle and a dummy to sooth me. Maybe there should be a forum just called 'Fuzzy Cuddle Lounge'. That way we could let all those who don't like the truth, humour and, quite frankly the grown up behaviour of some very experienced WLS vets go somewhere else! Where they would feel nurtured and loved and hear replies to their posts that they wanted to hear. Rant over. I need more tea!

I got the first one as a statement of rebellion against my ex husband. He hated it. Then I got another one.
Several years later I got one more. Then at some point I decided I liked them a lot and rather enjoyed the needles jabbing ink into my skin. Now I have one on my leg, one on my forearm, two on my chest, and my shoulders are nearly covered in them.
I do not have pics of them but they are all colorful and fun. No death daggers or bleeding hearts.
I do not regret getting them.

Blimey! This has been an interesting read on this lovely Sunday morning, and just because Dub mentioned something on another post. It got my curiosity (OK, big standard nosey) antenna twitching! Thought that I'd add my two pennyworth for what it's worth.
I'm Jinty, and I'm an alcoholic. There, I've said it. I've been sober for 12 years with, for the first six years the help of AA meetings and other recovering alcoholics. I received a lot of tough love, common sense advice and several kicks up the arse to get me on the sobriety track. I DIDN'T get mollycoddled, fuzzy love and cuddles or any other pussyfooting nonsense. That is why I am sober today. There were plenty of perfectly nice drunks who went to meetings but who expected their sobriety to come from someone else. Those people usually went back out, back on the piss and a few of them are now dead. They often thought that the old timers with long term sobriety were too tough. They would form their little groups and have their pity parties, commiserate and then pick up a drink. I saw it happen time and time again. I stuck with the winners. Those who had been around for a few years. I stayed well away from newbies who thought that they knew it all because again, many of them fell off the wagon (and back into the gutter) because of their arrogance.
I have a great life because of my sobriety and it's getting even better now that I have taken drastic action to deal with my food addiction in the form of a VSG. To ensure that I keep going in the right direction, I am sticking with all you wonderful, bullying, foul mouthed, tyrannical, well informed, humorous bastards who post on this forum. You've served me well thus far and quite frankly, if it ain't broken then I ain't going to fiddle fixing it.

Pre-op is to reduce your liver for a safer operation. Not to loose a ton of weight. I struggled too with the pre-op. I was off and on until I got 2 weeks away from surgery then it clicked, this is serious stuff, no more screwin around. I pretty much pep talked myself onto the liquid diet. I am now 4 days away from surgery day and hungry as heck but I've come too far (6 months to be exact) to give up now!!!!!! Plus im looking forward to just feeling good about myself.

Naw, bro. I had my back scratcher show up in time to drive me home.
The absolute best thing I took with me into the hospital was a sense of humor. There were some funny moments that stay.
First off......you'd think in the bariatric ward of the hospital one could expect some larger gowns for the patients.
    Nope.
All us fat folks were shuffling around with our arses hanging out the back. Just want I wanted to see and show as I was making my laps.
I got 'em back, though............I turned my gown around and rocked it backwards.
    Damn rite.
Those pain meds & the open fronted breezy gowns had a weird effect, too...... Woodrow Wilson marched on proudly ahead of me on my laps.

Neither, just stick with the hospital gowns. When you leave your room to go walking, just put on another hospital gown facing backwards so you don't flash anyone. Hospital gowns are designed to deal with drains, catheters, and IV lines and poles, any or all of which you may have -- your robe or PJ's are not. Also, do you want to get oozing blood, bodily fluids, or IV fluids on your own clothes, or on the hospital's? I say let the hospital deal with that load of laundry!
