    Time Off Work..

Hello! I had gastric sleeve surgery. I took two full weeks off from work. Although I have a desk job I have to at times walk to different buildings for meetings. I was glad I took two weeks. The first week primarily to heal and the second week to really concentrate on the nutrition guidelines. My surgery went well, but I had some issues with the anesthesia which caused major nausea issues. As far actual pain I did very well with the pain. I had only one incision that was angry and by the end of the first week at home it was not angry. I only used the pain meds(diluaded) only once when I first got home. I literally only took one pill one night when I was uncomfortable and having difficulty sleeping. I would say that there was more discomfort with the gas pains. I did struggle with low energy, but I think that is natural and common. Good luck on your journey and there is a lot of good information here. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Purée

@@gerbrared i use four boiled eggs, Hellmann's light mayonnaise, about half teaspoon of Dijon mustard, sea salt and pepper. Once you boil the eggs I just use a fork to mash the eggs up but I leave a bit of texture because once the mayo and dijon mustard is added it should be creamy so that it is easy to digest. Then I use the 2 oz condiment cup to eat out of. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. Pre surgery I made and packaged frozen meals for the family which made things easy which took them almost through the second week of post surgery; pre-made casseroles, meats pre-seasoned and vacuum sealed. Post surgery as the main cook...and I enjoy cooking it is my relaxing time I have kept meals simple. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling Judged

She is very jealous that you were brave to make a decision to change your life with wls. This is obvious! I have learned that when someone tells me about everyone else talking about me it is generally because that one person is going to start the conversations. Continue doing you and following your medical plan to become a healthier person. She will really be mad at you! . Her insecurities are definitely showing. 9. As hard as the struggle was to get to the point to have surgery the various appointments, the supervised weight management program, the required two week pre-op liquid diet (in which I did not cheat; I stuck to the plan) all of this to have a successful surgery. To go through the surgery and not follow the doctors orders nor my NUTs advice and guidance is just something I would not do. Everyone here has struggled. The struggle is real with most if not all with our relationship with food. I cannot say I am a perfect person but when I made a decision to go this path I had to commit myself to struggle through the demons and stay on track. Many others have done the same. I am sure there will be struggles down the road once I am completely on my own...no doc or NUT to hold me accountable but this early on while I have access to medical support and advice I will and recommend follow their guidance. It truly is for the best. Sometimes when we struggle we need someone to be straightforward. There is a difference between struggling and making what appears to be a clear cut decision to go against doctors orders. All of us here have been through similar situations. No judgement! What did I do to myself?

When I had surgery the nausea was ridiculous. The meds in the IV were was doing very little to ease it. The docs did put a patch on me and it made a difference. It does get better. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Purée

Yes. I have an extensive list of food that I was given and in my nutrition classes received more ideas, and I got sample menus. I appreciated my nutritional classes and felt prepared going into this stage. Sample of things I eat egg salad my favorite for breakfast. I just feel the little cup up and eat my meal. lunch tuna salad, or turkey chili. For dinner I have had refried Beans with low fat sour cream. Sunday night I roasted fresh beets and puréed them and had baked tilapia which I grinded into very small pieces and filled my little cup up; decent dinner with my Protein and vegetables. The fam got regular portions. I am learning to be creative yet keep it simple. My egg salad I just make a small portion for me to eat off for 2-3 days and I can prepackage my cups. Purée

My NUT recommended using the little 2 ounce condiment cups that you can get from a Walmart or the grocery stores to measure my food and what I can fit in it I can eat. It has been a good tool for me in this stage. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Stigmas

Congratulations on your decision, I think people who make an informed decision to have wls are brave! I have not been 23 for a while but what I will say what I know now I would have made a decision to have surgery a long time ago, but there is a time and place for everything and I am truly glad I made a decision to have the surgery. Having the surgery is allowing me to lose the weight on my own I just have a tool, I have recieved some good nutritional guidance to assist me in this journey and I have addressed some overlooked health issues through this process. I don't feel guilty I feel empowered. I think at any age people deal with some negativity surrounding weight loss surgery and I chalk it up to ignorance. My decision to have wls was about me and my quality of life. I would tell you make the best decision for you and feel good about your decision and ignore the negativity. April 28th Sleevers!

@@taramarie523 I am doing well and am very motivated to embracing the lifestyle change. I am down a total of 28 lbs since surgery. It is nice to fit into clothes. It is interesting how my taste buds have changed. I am feeling energetic and looking forward to being able to get back to Zumba class. I was a little nervous transitioning into the soft food phase but have found it to not be to bad. My incisions are healing very well and I believe I will have very minimal to no scarring. 23. I made egg salad and it was pretty good and tolerable. Also turkey chili, cauliflower Soup using riced cauliflower and blended Beans to use as a base with some bone broth added. I am slowly experimenting to keep the next few weeks interesting. My NUT encouraged us to stay away from baby food and we were given an extensive list and ideas of what we should eat going through the nutritional classes. 24. I have lost 25 lbs since surgery 28 April 2016. Overall I am doing well. I am struggling a bit with the vitamins and struggling a bit with water intake. I am feeling energy slowly coming back and cannot wait to go back to Zumba. It is nice trying on clothes and fitting comfortably in them. I have also noticed that my taste buds have changed since surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. I found out I was approved from the clinic. BCBS FEP reps would not tell me over the phone. When I asked them if I would get a letter I was told no the decision would go to the clinic. My understanding it takes 4 - 5 days for a response from time of submission. Which I can say is what I waited to get an answer. If you call the customer service number they can verify they have your package. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
