  1. Got to leave hospital about 8am today. Came back to hotel. Nurses and doctor have seen me three times today. Finishing last iv. Have dye test and xray tomorrow. Not looking forward to drinking dye. If all good I'll fly home Thursday. I hace been tryingvall day to get dowm 5 oz of Water. I am not hungry at all. Cold seems to hurt worse but they said to drink cold. Helps with swelling. I had 4 others in my group. A couple of them did not follow diet and they seemed to be really sick after surgery. Myself and couple others followed diet and we have had no trouble. My advice follow diet. Makes recovery easier. Good luck to all

I agree - the pre diet is important. now that you will be flying home take good care of yourself! Welcome to the other side!

  2. I can tell you I am no stranger to surgeries as well. I was freaking out all the way to the operating room. After the surgery - so happy. Its so normal. Everyone is questioning their decision before they go and up to the last second. I promise you will be so happy. It gets much better after!

  3. Welcome to the soon-to-be-skinny club, cln39! So glad to hear you are up and moving!

ShelterDog, I may buy some unflavored Knox Gelatin and make broth Jello - with extra unflavored Protein powder. Might resemble real food better than these sweet shakes.< /p>

I made real Bone Broth - easier - just throw the chicken in the pot with veggies - in 40 minutes take out chicken and throw bones back in pot and let simmer till bones open, are soft and release the collagen. Its good and 12 grams of protein per cup.

  4. To help with the desire to chew, my NUT suggest chewing on some Jerky and then spitting it out. I have never had jerky so not itching to try that yet.

I don't know if I would try that either. Its spicey which could give you reflux and if you get to wanting to suck on it you could swallow it and it might not agree with the small opening of your new pouch.... but I am not the nutritionist. just sounds risky -

  5. Hi Biggi! Glad you are doing better. I was really worried about you. Its hard to get everything in isn't it. Getting creative with it. Had cream of wheat with a 1/4 scoop of Protein Powder the other day and 8oz of skim milk, cinnamon and sweetnlow. Didn't taste too bad but the texture was gross. I used to love my own smoothies from the nutriblast but I don't even want that either. Nothing is appealing but tea, chicken broth and Water. So I'm going to try Protein waters. I saw one of the guys post that he was drinking Isopure and I thought I could do that! We shall see how I do. If I get hungry which is doubtful I'll work in a shake. Uuugggh

  6. My doc doesn't want me to focus on anything but getting my fluids in and 30 was fine by end of week and try to get to 40 48 by next and start sprinkling Protein in things where I can. I can do about one GNC Protein Shake a day but its taking me 2 hours to get it in. I feel full all the time. I just bought Bariatric Choice Liquid Protein fruit Drink Concentrate from Amazon. Its got 15 grams of protein in it. You put it in 10 oz of Water. Not too bad. I also bought NutriWise. Here are links if you think it might help you too.

  7. My date is set for the June 29th and I am really excited but also a little nervous!

Thanks to all here who have posted that it's not so awful... I have this fear I will be a terrible patient and a big baby when it comes to the pain after! We shall see

Hi Sunshine - You're going to do great! Listen to your doc... walk, walk, walk as I promise it will make you feel better. Everyone here pretty much posts the same tips. Also get the ice chips; you aren't going to want a single thing but they will make you feel good. When they give you Water to start drinking take a sip every 2 to 3 minutes. Sit up really straight and don't lay down after it. It won't be so hard on your new stomach and you will make your Water goals safely. Again... you won't want a single thing but you will be right as rain in no time! Can't wait to hear your good news so come back and share. Everyone's experience is different but we are all learning from each other. Kick butt!

  8. Another day another poop!!!

YOU BRAGGART! hahaha... but seriously, way to "go"!

Maggie, I tried something else for gas pain: a heating pad on my back. I do have far less pain today but I don't know if it's related to using the pad today. I saw the tip on a gallbladder post-op board. Worth trying? Maybe ok on your tummy too, as long as not on the incisions.

I was looking up information yesterday on Phrenic nerve pain and learned that the heat will work. It comes and goes as we drink/eat stretching our new stomach pouches and forcing the gas up. So they recommended warm tea, warm heat, etc. So my warm shower and tea did the trick. So happy I know how to deal with it now. Woop woop...

  9. Pretty good now. I had a rough go at first with the pain but I'm doing better now. I'm trying to figure out when I'll return to work. How are you?

Doing good - 5 days from Tuesday. No pain in the stomach just if I drink too fast and I have found that the phrenic nerve pain in the left shoulder should you get it - is going to come and go because of the co2 in the stomach and when we drink it stretches and we get that pain again. Warm tea, warm showers and heating pads ... my new friends! ;) I hope you don't get that!

lol you are a proud pooper... I have nothing to give.... yet ;)

  10. My surgeon ordered me to not crush pills but I sure wanted to. It went down fine. Good luck with your contractor. I have a kitchen remodel starting monday. Bad timing but I don't have to do anything more.

Lucky duck! No crushing, I wonder why? I think I should just try and swallow that thing anyway. Its so gross. Good for you with the kitchen remodel. I think I want to see pics of that too! ;) Hope its awesome.

  11. Thanks maggie. Good to be able to share. I had a coughing spell in middle of the night. Thanks for reminding me of the Spiro meter as that should help.

They gave me a nice cold pack for the swelling. Just took a pretty pill with no repercussions. Yeah.

Glad you are doing well! But sorry you are having waves of gas. My stomach and intestines are in a competitive rumbling contest.

Wow I still haven't had a whole pill yet. They are making me crush. I have to take ursodial for the gallbladder night and day and that is a big yucky pill I have to split in half. Uuugh I wish I could swallow that! You are doing great! I have a contractor coming over this afternoon... I just said to my husband - Oh God I hope I don't have gas or burps in front of this man.... lol I feel for you!

BiggiSmalls where are you! How is your stomach doing and are you still getting sick? I hope you are doing better and on the mend. Thinking of you.

  12. Maggie, I haven't found any cure for the "gas waves," although walking around is supposedly getting the gas out. My doc says that because it's gas in the body cavity (not the gut) gas-X or similar medicines won't help. Just knowing it's "only" gas has helped me focus less on it.

    Here're my notes so far:

    I was sleeved June 22 at 2pm.

You are a rockstar! No way am I ready to go back to work or walk a mile. I actually spoke to my team about that yesterday and they said no just to walk around the house and light exercise bike but don't go crazy. I'm not on pain meds either and they don't want me to drive for 2 weeks because you don't know when you will hit a weak state and they don't want you out and driving like that. I had my surgery the day before you. Made chicken bone broth and froze in 1 ounce cubes before I went in the hospital. That, walking, spirometer helped me keep from getting a lung infection. Started getting the yellow yuks and a low grade fever. Gone very quickly. Have now planned out the times of day I'm going to drink/eat my ounces which will help me with the liquid and the Protein. Right on track. Still hard though. Everything still feels like lead in the belly.

  13. Doing ok. Working on fluids.my belly is swollen and the incisions hurt when standing up. Surgeon said my hiatal hernia was larger than he thought so it took almost as much time as sleeve. I keep burping but no referred gas pains. Yeah!

Can't wait to be thru this initial stage.

My incisions hurt at first too. Especially where the hernia was. I am 5 days in and my incisions do not hurt anymore and I'm sleeping on two pillows in the bed. Do not push yourself. Take your time and don't over do it. Its a life time so you have time! ;) So happy no gas pains for you! I am still having intermittent gas in left shoulder but do get "the wave" that comes up my stomach and doesn't feel so good. Thats coming with extra drinking (too fast and getting in too much to quick) Most embarrassed of the farting lol. Do your spirometer too. It really does help. Try not to nap late afternoon so you sleep at night at home. Glad you are doing good!

  14. Hi, I'm pre-op too. Based on my timeframe, I'm looking at the end of August/early September as my surgery. My surgeon is Dr. Irgau.

I agree it would be nice to have a support group in Wilmington somewhere. I made it to the one at Christiana once but it was crazy to get there. I had to leave work early and with all the traffic it took 30 minutes (it's normally about 10-15).

Hi there- Had my surgery on Tuesday. Slowly progressing. I'm here if you need a buddy as you go along. Nice to have locals to talk to and it would be nice to get some people together now and then in person to share and keep each other on track. Keep me posted on your progress and if you have any questions, I can try to help. In the mean time take excellent care of yourself as that will help you for the big day! ;)

  15. I did not get a pain pump or a purse. I got nausea and pain meds via IV. I opted off the pain meds quickly for liquid tylenol. The pain meds make a lot of people throw up and I did not want to hinder my progress. Hiccups and weird gas not going away but that is trying to get liquids in too fast. Slow sips. Sip 1x every 3 minutes. Start with 1 oz to 2 within 15 minutes to half an hour. Take a break and do it again. We have to get 4 ounces in an hour. They told me worry more about getting liquid in and build up on Protein as you go. They are more worried about your dehydration. The Protein will come as you heal and your stomach pouch is handling liquids better. I feel great in the morning as the day progresses it gets tougher as I don't want to drink but I'm making it work. broth is my friend. Popsicles too. Adding small amounts of Protein powder to broth. Getting Vitamins in is also hard. Space them out through your day and don't be surprised if you don't get them all in just yet. That will come too. You don't want to hurt your pouch so take it easy. No poo yet but nothing solid to rid of - they said that is normal too and will come with the protein. Doing good you guys - keep up the good work and post all that helps you!

  16. Good luck today Suzzzz! Had my surgery on Tuesday the 21st. I also had a hernia that they found and fixed. I was nauseous, in a bit of pain in the top part of my stomach and a good deal of pain in my left shoulder. Was on IV drip the entire time in the hospital so had to pee constantly and every 2.5 or 3 hours a walk about the floor. Couldn't sleep between the bed, the peeing and the constant vital checks. I had to stay in an extra day because I had an allergic reaction to one of the meds they gave me and I needed to get in more Water. I didn't want a single thing. They did a dye test while I was knocked out in the surgery and I did not have another leak test following that one. I was very happy with the ice chips. Get your ice chips! Walk walk walk. The walking eases the pain in your shoulders and your stomach so move. fart, burp and ride the hiccups. It all helps it go away. I have a sore throat and am coughing up a little phlem from the tube. Home today and still on Clear Liquids and don't want them but trying. Tomorrow full liquids. Can't imagine I will want that either but have to push and have to take meds so I'll have to make it work. My stomach hurts today drinking the Water. Do not want. I will get it in as I don't want to go backwards. Gained water weight from the IV drip I think as I came out weighing more than I did when I went in.

  17. Mine's suppost to be tomorrow..I'm waiting a call from insurance to see if they are going to cover it or If they gonna have to cancel...really nervous at this point...today is just Clear liquids no shakes..
