    Diet after gastric bypass

I think also it will be up to your body. I eat a lot of salads, mostly cesar salads with chicken or salmon cut up on it. I have a friend that had the same surgery, and she can't even eat one piece of lettuce without getting sick. You will find out what works for you and what doesn't. I try to stick to clean eating.

  4. YES!! I became terrified the closer it got. I just told myself I was doing something that would change my life forever. Even the morning of surgery when they were prepping me I was almost in tears and I told my mom I wanted to get dressed and leave! I'm soooo thankful she calmed me down and they took me back for surgery and I fell right asleep.

    Return to work

I had RNY on a Thursday... I was released from the hospital on Saturday and two hours later I was staying at a client's house (for a week). I own a pet sitting business so I was taking care of their five shar peis for a week and during the day at home with my dogs. I'm also an accountant so a desk job, and I took one week off from that job. I don't think I needed the full week, but took it just in case Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    Why did you choose GBP?

It was a hard decision for me, but I'm so happy I choose RNY bypass. I just felt like it has been proven for many more years and the long term success rate is higher. My insurance only covers once, so I wanted to be sure I picked the best. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    How Does It Work?

I had my surgery 7/21/16. One thing I love is getting content faster. After a few bites I'm good. I have no cravings, even at holidays none of the food looks that Good to me. I had no interest in sweets, I actually lost six pounds over Christmas lol. I think one thing is to listen to your pouch, when you are done...don't take another bite! All I really ever want is salad now. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
  9. I was in my size 26 and 3x for a lot of the weight loss, my HW was 324 and SW was 300. Now I'm 5.5 months post surgery and down 107 pounds and just bought a size 10 in pants!! It'll happen, be patient! Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

  11. Yes, I've had that too. It just took me a bit to learn what causes it with my body. Even taking too many Vitamins at the same time causes it. I had it bad for like a month, but now it's gone. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    post op q's!

It's so different for everyone. I never even felt like I had surgery. The only pain I had was when they took the drain tube out before I was released. And that was more weird vs pain. I just sipped out of the little cups, but they had me on IV the entire time I was in the hospital. I have two pit bulls... they stayed close and laid on me same as before. I had my surgery Thursday, released sat afternoon. Drove Sunday. Weight recovery is different for everyone. I had RNY so my weight came off pretty fast.. I slept on my stomach. I am losing a TON of hair Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    Food Comfort

I'm so sorry for your loss. I've lost a few Foster dogs and I feel your pain. What about seeing if a local rescue has an event and go get yourself some snuggles from a dog that needs you just as much as you need a hug? Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    Two tickets on plane?

  17. It's amazing to me the lengths people will go to to sabotage themselves after surgery. I normally just shake my head and continue on. We have to want to make these changes for ourselves, we know when we do wrong. Me personally, I don't want to know if I'll dump if I take a bite of chocolate. 1) I never want to throw up or dump 2) I don't want to eat something bad and NOT get sick, then I'll know I can eat that item. Nope, I'll just convince myself I'll get seriously ill and it's not worth it. I'm surprised on my birthday how much I enjoyed watching everyone else enjoy the cupcakes I brought for treats, and was never tempted to even have a taste. Sugar, Pasta, covering everything in cheese, alcohol.... my health is worth SO much more than the taste of any of those things. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

  24. I thought I'd just put my story out there so far. So many times we read about the the surgeries that have complications..... which scared me so bad. I thought I'd give a happy outcome! I started my process in November by going to the group meeting then meeting with my surgeon. I had to go through the 6 months of doctor visits and of course all the health screening tests. I was approved by my insurance company Anthem BCBC in less than a week. Finally I was given my surgery date, 6 weeks out. I felt like that was forever far away.. but time went fast! I was put on two week liquid diet. The first few days were a test for me for sure, but I stuck with it because I knew if I cheated my liver wouldn't shrink as much as possible. I was lucky enough that I had no comorbidities and I wasn't on any medications. My surgery was Thursday the 21st at 8:30 am. I was back to my room by like 2pm. I felt fine, just real groggy and tired. I wasn't really in pain though. I feel like the gas "pain" was like when you eat too much food, and it burns right at your sternum area... all you want to do is poop to relieve that pressure. That is how I felt. The first time I tried to stand up I started dry heaving, so I stayed laying down. ... well sitting up as far up as my hospital bed would let me. I had some pain meds in my IV, then later at night the meds they give to relieve some of the inner swelling to give the gas more room. My nurse told me that the actual pain med narcotic causes constipation so I didn't want to take it. When I would feel the gas move around and get stuck somewhere uncomfortable, I'd move to get it moving... then I felt fine again. Friday I woke up feeling great, in the afternoon at some point the gas really stuck somewhere for probably like 45 min, that was the worst of it for me. I just kept making laps out in the hallway to get it to move. Saturday I was up feeling amazing, I had a bowel movement, drank Water, my first Protein shake, and some Soup. Since I was able to keep it all down I was released to go home. I honestly did not even feel like I had surgery at all. That night I started staying at a clients house with their pets. (I own a pet sitting business). I felt fine. I think the worst thing was having the drain tube removed. I was mostly just sleepy because in the hospital they are taking blood, checking monitors, checking blood sugar.. blood pressure.. ect like every hour so I got NO sleep there!! I did still take this week off of my accounting job to give myself time to get used to drinking what I need when I need. Today is monday, so 4 days post op. I honestly do not even feel like I had a surgery. Obviously I have the bandages over my six incision spots.... but I feel amazing! I think I feel so thankful that my surgeon belonged to a bariatric center of excellence. The nurse told me they have a lot more hoops to jump through, even the hospital rooms had to be special for the patient to heal in... and no sharing of rooms!! whew. I think that would be one of my biggest suggestions... follow your preop diet exact.. and if you don't have a surgeon yet, try to find one that is certified with the bariatric center of excellence. I can't wait to continue on this journey!!
