NeedaBreak4Me got a reaction from 2goldengirl in Regretting the sleeve so much and afraid I will die or have serious problems down the road
KittyCathy.... i wouldn't worry about it too much.
Think of it this way.... you would already be aging faster beng 320... so you will actually notice people look and feel younger with weight loss.
This surgery has been done for years as the first step to another surgery and also has been used to treat some stomach cancers.... and i would think doctors would not do it on a mass scale if it has the potential to cause major issues down the track.
Was this article a medical journal article or is it potential hogwash from around the Internet?

Don't do it!! You will go back to square one! Its not worth it to jeopardise your surgery.
The cravings will ease one you are in ketosis.
Im on day nine... and i am craving bread and meat.. but i remind myself that this phase will end and after surgery i will have a little more flexibility.
Why not have a chocolate flavoured shake? Or chocolate Protein pudding mix?

Fling... in reality they probably dont really understand... im sure they are trying to.. but its quite impossible to understand what it feels like post WLS unless you have actually gone through it.
I would try and get support from people who have actually had surgery.... hence why forums.. support groups etc exist.
We are all here to support each other.. give eachother advice and the occasional reality check... you have hundreds of people literally going through the same journey... utilise it!!
Chin up.... things will get easier with time. ????

Im sorry to say... but it is not your friends responsibility to change their eating habits around you.
You chose to improve your health and wellbeing by having surgery and no one has the right to judge you on that. Therefore you can not judge your friends on living the lifestyle they have chosen for themselves.
This surgery is for life! You will find yourself in many situations where there is food... many social occasions do revolve around food and we all must learn to cope and find a technique to deal with that.
I am not trying to be harsh.. but thats the reality.
Support is not where everyone in your life must change their lives to accommodate yours.
Support is where you can vent your frustration and have people listen and acknowledge and validate your feelings.

I have had my sleeve yet.... but when i had my band... my cycles Improved at around the 2 month mark. Went from having one period a year to completely reversing my PCOS and insulin resistance. Since then... my period comes like clockwork.
Hang in there... the stress of surgery mucks up your cycle.... it will improve when your body wants it to...

I will also add.... you must do the pre op diet to shrink your liver.
During surgery they move your liver to enable them to operate on the stomach.
Most obese people have a fatty enlarged liver.. hence if we do not to the pre op diet.. there is a risk for complications.
I ask you this...Is damaging your organs worth a piece of chocolate? ☺

NeedaBreak4Me reacted to JupiterinVirgo in Anyone ever thought:"I can do this on my own, I don't need the sugery"
I told myself that I could do it on my own my whole life. And I did do it, several times. And yet, right before I decided to have the surgery I was at my highest weight ever. I'm only in my late 30s, and I was exhausted, had trouble moving around, was experiencing chronic pain in my joints and body, and could barely find clothes that fit. I remembered over the years the older women that I met, who are even bigger than I was then, how they couldn't sit in regular chairs, how they walked with canes, how some of their medical problems became physically visible. How lonely they had been. And I knew that I could easily become a woman like that. I knew that I wanted more life then I was capable of getting. I knew that even if I lost the weight yet again, I would be likely to gain it back without this tool And honestly, by the last time, I really didn't believe I could do it on my own anymore.
Even though I personally consider having the surgery a sacrifice, I have not regretted it. I am five months out and I'm down like 90 pounds from my highest weight. Even though I still have a long way to go, my body feels so much smaller, I no longer suffer with chronic pain, and it is much easier to perform the tasks of daily living.
This surgery has enabled me to change my life. I always wanted to travel, but my weight made it prohibitive. Starting this summer I am about to go on tour for my new book and I get to travel around the United States and Mexico for the next year or two years even. I would have never even consider this before.
I feel very excited about my new life, and I know that I will continue to lose weight, and this time I expected to be permanent just like my sleeve is.

Thank you for the detailed reply...
I have been on Optifast for 5 days and ive lost 9lbs... which is great!
After getting the band removed ive been eating well for 12 months and doing everything "right" and still gained.. so im glad there is movement on the scales and clothes.
I guess im going to have to be a big girl now and just accept the fact that i couldn't do it on my own.
I really hope everything works out for everyone on here.
You do not understand how much your support means to me... since no one really understands what we go through on a daily basis

Thank you... i really needed that.
I guess i know deep down that it will be a different journey to the last time... maybe i am going through the pre-surgery jitters.
I think a big part of it is that the last time i went into it completely blind and naive... so everything was new and unexpected... maybe i am too over educated about it now... and possible complications.... ah ignorance is bliss
Thank you for taking time out for me... i appreciate it
