  1. Hi Katelyn!! Welcome to this wonderful journey! I live in Des Moines too. I had Dr Lamasters for my surgery. My surgery was 9-29-16. I haven't had any complications at all. I've lost 20lbs so far. I'm gearing up to join the YMCA to help the process. Good luck to you. We're here for you.

  2. First...congrats sirmikael and Lucky on your weight loss so far!!!! Whoot! Whoot!

Second...prayers are being said for you mindi to have a speedy return on the insurance approval!

Third...i am excited to report a 50 pound loss as of today!!!!

The stamina really does come back and the energy you will feel is unexplainable (at least for me it has been)

This has not been easy but the changes I have made so far I can live with for life...guess that is most important.

Congratulations Fran!!! Way to go!! Do you go to the post op support group too? I'm going to my first one tomorrow evening.

  3. I'm looking forward to my first post op support group on Tuesday!! As of today, I'm down 18lbs since surgery. Happy dance!!

Nice!! I'm down about 23 right now, with my one month follow-up on 11/10. I'm much bigger than you, so you've lost more, in terms of percentage of body weight. Congrats!

  4. ^ That's about what I'm like as well, and I'm almost four weeks from surgery. The no caffeine thing is killing me!!

What was your surgery date? Mine was 9-29-16. I had headaches for a few days after surgery. I think it was caffeine withdrawals. I typically only had one or two cups a day but apparently enough to cause withdrawals. Now the headaches are gone and I drink a cup of Decaf each morning with sugar free Creamer.

Yesterday my tummy was revolting. I'm not sure if it was the refried Beans or the little bit of salsa I put on them but I was sitting on the toilet quite a bit yesterday. Going back to mild stuff today. It also could be from the antibiotics I'm on for some cycsts/boils I have. We'll see.

  5. Happy Friday!! Doing well here. Struggling with the mental game. I've lost 17.5lbs since surgery but I'm getting hung up on the fact that I don't see it. And hung up on my head saying "only 17.5lbs". I know intellectually that's over 5 lbs a week, which is great. But the mental game is soooo real. Head hunger is real!! I still want to munch when I'm bored. I'm working hard to recognize these things and find activities to do. I'd do it all over again though. It's a learning process. How's everyone else doing?

  6. Yes we may wait till March to go. I have all in except nov 3rd group and one last psych visit on oct 26th. They have everything else they need.

That's great news!!!! Write down any questions you have for your team as you get closer. It's hard to remember stuff as the time approaches because your mind will start feeling like it's all over the place. Keep reminding yourself of the reasons you want to do this. Keep your mind focused on all the positives. If you can find a place of peace and calm, it'll help tremendously. I think that's part of why it's been so smooth for me so far. I've tried to be extremely positive about the process. Really listen to what they tell you to do/not do. I think you'll do great. Congratulations! Keep us posted.

  7. Good afternoon!! I had my first postop appt today. It went great. I've lost 15lbs in 12 days. No complications at all. Healed up nicely and cleared to return to work. Yay!! Oh, and the best part.....I start pureed food this week!! Just in time for this weekend. My husband has a show this weekend and my neice will be visiting from MN so I planned to cook a big pot of chili. I'll actually get to enjoy some too!!

Looking back I remember feeling so skeptical and concerned of all that could go wrong. I'm so glad I did my research, found a great medical team and found my inner calm before doing it. I went into surgery ready for a new life and had complete trust in my team. I was assured that my surgeon would do her absolute best work (which she did) and that all I needed to do was follow exactly what my team asked of me (which I have). Zero complications. Zero regrets.

  8. I am doing good. The mental game of this weight loss roller coaster is real and these last couple of weeks it has been a little difficult at times. Trying to use this first 6 months to really change the way I look at food and being honest with yourself is not always easy.

Yes, the mental rollercoaster is very real. But we're on the right track. Head up.

  9. Lucky...how are you doing??? Hope all is going well and you are moving along the road with ease!

Hey Fran. I'm doing really well. Post op appt is tomorrow. Can't wait to get approved for pureed food. Still feeling really good. One incision is tender but I think it's ok. She'll check it out tomorrow. How are you doing Fran?

  10. Lucky did you do of the healthy lifestyles they offer at our clinic before hand. Dr. talked about it but no one ever said anything else to me. Is this covered under insurance like we do copay a I wonder?

Well, they mentioned it to me too and at the time I was still on the fence about the surgery so I said I was interested. All they really did was have me come in once in awhile to visit with a dietician and physiologist to set food/exercise goals. I think I came in twice before I was informed my insurance had approved me for surgery and they set my last preop appt. By then I'd made up my mind about surgery. If I remember correctly, they said the 6months of Healthy Lifestyles was $200. And if I chose to go ahead with surgery, (instead of Healthy Lifestyles) that $200 would be used as the preop fee. Hope that makes sense. I didn't pay anything except my copays for those couple visits I went to for HLs. On my last preop visit I paid the $200. If you're not sure about your insurance, ask the purple haired insurance girl :-) I adore her lol. I love her hair and her great personality. She's very helpful.

  11. Lucky did you find before surgery you ate more then usual? I've got to get this under control I haven't gained yet but just not eating good at all.

I did. It was like I was in a panic that my life was going to change so drastically. I had to have a heart to heart with myself lol. I had to remind myself over and over of my purpose for the surgery. And remind myself that overeating was only sabotaging my end goal. Maybe try journaling. Writing out how I feel helps sort through things too. Do you have a therapist? I have one that I see every month. That helps too. Remember why you're on this journey. You're worth it!
