    Health alliance connect in Illinois

Hi I am in IL as well and my husband has HAC. We were told he has to do 6 months of nutrition with the PCP. I had a friend who started it last September and she is currently 20 days post opp. So not much more than the 6 months. What program are you going through? I have found that makes the difference Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App
  2. We had that happen to my brother in law. It is embarrassing. I am so sorry you had that happen. It's one reason why I didn't want to live in an upstairs apartment. I didn't want to deal with people below us. We used to live in an upstairs apartment and the pure fear of the downstairs neighbors hearing us kept be from being intimate with my husband for years. Good luck on your journey. Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App
  3. My "yep that's it I'm done" moment was last August when my parents both landed in the hospital because of complications from obesity within 24 hrs of each other. I am an only child and I needed to take care of both of them. My dad survived my mom didnt. I remember the last concious conversation I had with my mom. She told me not to come back to the hospital unless I brought her a root beer float. Her food addiction was so out of control when the hospital put her on a limited diet to save her life she decided she would rather die than use a use a tool to help her live. I remember sitting in the waiting room watching my daughter play, praying my mom would change her mind and ask for us. I realized in that moment I had allowed my mother's food addiction to be an excuse why I was eating the wrong things. I realized in that moment I had a choice. I could continue down the same path or I could do something to guarantee my daughter wouldn't be sitting in a waiting room 25 years from now with her daughter. That night I signed up and finally got in the program this past Feb and will have surgery in October Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App

    Hi

I have no idea how to use this app but the people in my support group at the hospital said this was the best way to meet others who are going through this. I am 30 years old. Married for almost 6 years. 1 daughter. I am currently pre op. I still don't know what surgery I will be having sleeve or rny. Waiting to hear from my surgeon. I am 2 months into the program. I am just looking for others who are at the same point or close. Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App

Still a ways off but you never know

We pay for it out of pocket because it was the only thing that works. Especially now that's it's over the counter. We get over a months supply at costco for less than a dollar a pill Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App

I gave severe Gerd where I have to take 2 omeprazole 40 mgs 2x's a day till surgery. Have you asked your doctor about nexium? My husband has HORRIBLE Gerd and nexium is the only thing that stopped him from throwing up acid 4x a day. He takes 1 a day and it is a miracle! I am cw 365 hw 380 gw 299 for before surgery and 199 post. Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App

    Denied for lack of effort?

Any updates?? How are you? Did you get approved? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using the BariatricPal App Not sure I'm doing this quoting thing correctly or not...Paperwork still not submitted because this doctors office doesn't run very well. After numerous calls from both me and my insurance coordinator the office still has yet to send my stuff to my surgeon. I went to the office in person and they told me that they have someone who sends it out once a week and I will have to wait. Beyond frustrated! Ahhh!!!! That's got to be frustrating. Someone had mention not hearing an insurance requiring a certain amount of weight loss. My husband's insurance requires (and pays for) 12 weeks of weight watchers and you are required to attend 10 weeks of meetings and lose 5%. If you succeed that then your doctor has to send something in and they give you another 12 weeks and another 5% must be lost. This is all before you even get to see the surgeons office. Then you have 6 months with the surgeons program. Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App

How much warning do you normally get on surgery dates? I want my husband to take the time off work and his office is weird about requesting at least 4 weeks out. Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App

    I need help

I have found fresh slices of lemon and lime in my Water really helps and switching to diet to take myself off soda slowly was good. Writing everything down and not telling myself I can't have any treats. I also use snack bags and take any multi serving container and break it down as soon as I open the package. Adding a New Medicare Advantage Plan

I was on Medicare and Medicaid for disability and when I sent in my paper work to start the process they had to wait til January to file it with my Medicare Advantage company ( I personally choose Health Alliance - it was the only one that worked with my pcp's office and hospital choice) Again I would agree talk to your insurance cordinator. Good Luck!

I am a little nervous though. My father in law had rny and regained ALOT. He also didn't follow the diet exactly right and doesn't have the follow up support that's available now Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App

    Forever!

I have around 200 to lose and when I did my research by the numbers it seemed the rny was the best option. I still haven't gotten the all clear from my shrink because one of the meds I'm on has serious issues with dosing. If he can switch my drugs (which that is our goal anyways I am weaning off that med) I get the bypass otherwise the surgeon says sleeve. Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App

    Forever!

It looks like I will be an October surgery because it took forever to get an insurance quote. I sent in all my paperwork on August 16th 2015. I was hoping to have surgery within 1 year but a family vacation this year is in September so I asked if I could push it to October. My surgeon told me more than likely it will be at least October. Hurry up and wait...

I was told by my surgeon's office it is standard after insurance approval to wait 2 - 3 months. I asked why and they said because they only do surgeries on Mondays and if there is a large wave of patients able to have surgery at the same time you have to wait. Our center has 5 satellite programs but all the surgeries are done at the same hospital. In my 100 and 200 nutrition class there were 6 of us going through the same time. that means it could easily have 30 people who get their approval around the same time.

    Short Term Disability

I am still pre op but what I heard from everyone in my support group they were back at work in a week. I know the way it worked for my Dad when he was working he could get short term disability if he was off work at least 7 consecutive days. Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App

  24. I did low carb to drop weight before the surgery. It's pretty effective. Do you have and anticipated surgery date? My anticipated date is not til October. At first I thought it would be August but then my family planned our first family vacation for September and I didn't want to be doing the liquid diet during that. I asked my surgeon and he was perfectly fine waiting til October. He said I will have my 6th Month in July so that would be when they send everything to insurance and it normally takes 2-3 months after that. I naturally lean towards a low carb diet. I don't like bread and not a huge fan of potatoes. I do use rice but I have limited that to 1 or 2 x a week. I have been tracking and I actually have a hard time getting my carbs or Protein in now. I had lost 19 lbs according to my doctors scale from October to February. But when I went back in March a different scale said I gained 5lbs. the 2nd weight was closer to what I thought. 25. Yeah when I saw the surgeon he said I didn't have a pre op goal except I can't gain more than 2% during the program. For me thats 7 pounds. I am a little worried about that because I can flux between 10 pounds according to my doctors scale. He doesn't have a digital one and has told me they are not the best at measuring larger people. I am hoping they go by the nuts scale because hers is a digital one that also does the body fat. I have only seen the nut once and she didn't give me any guidelines on how much to eat pre op. I am confused how I am on a medically monitored weight loss program with no guidelines.
