  1. The amount you lose depends on several things, starting with you and your body.

    Surgeons often vary and differ in the pre-op diets as well as post op diets. For me, during my preop I was allowed 3-4 Protein Shakes a day, broth, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, G2, and Powerade zero... and of course Water with and without crystal light.
    I personally was on my pre-op diet for 21 days. And during that time I lost 16.5 pounds.



  2. I throw up any time I drink a sip or two of any Protein Drink. I am allowed soft foods, but I'm so afraid of eating too much that I'm probably not eating enough. I went 16 days with nothing but half a sugar free popsicle for Breakfast and 4 tablespoons of chicken broth for dinner. I'm allowed soft foods starting yesterday, and I had 1 mandarin orange segment for Breakfast and 1 tablespoon of mashed potatoes for dinner and later half of a sugar free popsicle. I'm exhausted and weak and my muscle hurt. I am such a picky eater - I don't like vegetables and the thought of puréed foods gags me! I know I need Protein - I used skim milk to make the mashed potatoes - but that's not enough. Can I try Peanut Butter? Any ideas or suggestions? I am getting my fluids in!

    Trust me when I say that your body will let you know if you're eating too much. For me, I hiccup one time. Any bite/sip over that hiccup and I need to be finding a restroom fairly quickly.

    You definitely are not eating enough. What are you allowed during your soft foods stage? The only reason why I ask is because surgeons are so different when it comes to that. I am allowed pretty much any meat (except steak) and fruit and veggies as well. chicken and other meats just need to be chewed really well... the first couple of times I literally counted to 30 with my chews and made sure not to take such a big bite.

    Protein shakes are really REALLY hard for me to stomach so I'll only drink them when I have a super tight restriction day... after I've tried to at least eat a yogurt.

    For breakfast: I have a Greek yogurt which has anything from 14-17 grams of Protein in it.

    Every now and then I have chili from Wendy's because it I easy and cheap when I'm out and about and will usually give me 2-3 meals depending on how much I eat.

    Eggs w/ cheese is another good simple protein option.

    Peanut butter isn't on my list of okay foods so I cannot answer that question for you.

  3. I had my first stall at 3ish weeks it lasted a couple of weeks. I am almost 6 weeks post op and stepped on the scale and am down 5 pounds since last wed! From my understanding stalls are all aboard of the journey. The faster you lose, your body is going to need to keep up and/or adjust.



  4. I think that's what it is with me too. Also, I want to give them all this knowledge I have acquired.. But from personal experience I know they will have the same reaction I did and they won't accept until they are ready to on their own time. I just hate that I am so "judge-y" about it. Because I know there were people who were judge-y to me. Congrats on the surgery btw!!! It's an amazing feeling, isn't it??? I am 5 months out, 130 lbs down!!!



    It really is! I hit the dreaded 3 week stall but today I stepped on the scale and was down 2 pounds! I'm ready for more lol.



  5. I think I have replaced my several unhealthy habits with another. I used to smoke, chug soda like no ones business, binge eat disgusting foods that were no good for me and never exercise. Hence, why I needed surgery... Now, post-op... I have another unhealthy habit... not particularly unhealthy to my body, but to my mind...
    Has anyone else experienced themselves being drawn to watching "Mukbangs" or eating shows? I stumbled across these videos when looking up "weight loss" channels... Alot of the channels I found were of morbidly obese people like I, so I subscribed thinking someone was in the middle of or beginning their journeys. Well, they kind of were.. But, they were the type of person I used to be. start a diet, stick with it a few days and give it up and back to old habits. I think we have all been there. Scratch that. I know. Maybe some of us still struggle there. Well, for youtube views there are mobidly obese people who eat LARGE amounts of food for Youtube views, despite all the evil people in comments giving them hate.
    The reason I bring this up is because I am obsessed with watching them. I think I watch them solely for the purpose of knowing I will be disgusted. Hoping people never saw me that way when I ate similar to that.. Thinking about how sad that person must be and seeing a little bit of my old self in them. It breaks my heart at times, but makes me rage other times. That they would continue to do this to themselves. and then I feel compassion because I once did it, too. & I think about the hole I was trying to fill and try to figure out what hole they are trying to fill.
    I think I need to see someone professional about this. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? If not, what would you do if you did come across something like this and began an unhealthy obsession with watching people self-destruct, knowing it will bring negative feelings to you. Also, is it like a healing thing? Is it something that will keep me in track? I have no idea.. I would love some input.



    I personally have never seen those videos BUT I have a bad habit of looking in people's carts while at the store. My mother literally had to snap me out of it because I guess I was making a face.

    Unfortunately, it is human nature. I think about how not that long ago it was me.






  6. It's more to it than just surgery. Your body is burning more calories than you are able to take in.

    I know this... but the surgery is the cause of that. You can't eat a ton of calories when your stomach is tiny. I gave a very vague answer.



  7. I am 6 weeks post op, 30 lbs lost & I have stalled. Well, not only have I stalled but I gained 2 pounds in the last couple days ???? Wth??? That is mathematically impossible as I would have to be consuming an additional 7000 calories a week to gain a pound. I am NOT..... unless this Water weight fluctuation &/ or PMS....I cannot think this type of restrictive dieting can lead to any gain.
    Please please shed some light on this for me.



    Gaining a little is normal.



  8. Me. I am 25 days out (surgery was on the first) and my largest incision had pain again. I have had to go back to the heating pad, and have taken it easy the last few days. I was told by my surgeon it was/is healing slower than the others but it is healing nonetheless.



  9. I had several of those moments (more than I'd like to admit tbh) but I embraced them. I had my surgery on the first and as of Wednesday (my weigh in day) I am down 28 pounds. I can feel it in my clothing. And my face isn't as fat. It's amazing how a little weight gone forever can make a difference.

    I would cry and then think of what I loved/liked about myself, even if they were small. Confidence starts with you, and if you're not at peace before surgery some find it unbelievable that they're not after.



  10. Well that is helpful! How bad was the pain at it's worst? I am guessing that 2 weeks minimum for work.
    A lot of people have expressed frustration with not going for a while but I am not concerned. If nothing is going in, nothing is going out!!!!
    My biggest fear is what to do with the time I am NOT eating. We are triggered to eat at certain times and used to eating a certain amount. How are you doing with that change?


    TBH, I had a 3 week liquid diet so the urge to eat had kind've subsided by surgery date. Plus... I hurt too bad to even think about putting something in my already swollen and uncomfortable body.

    I do think that pain tolerance comes into play when we talk about pain. For me it wasn't horrible, but... I had a c-section in 2014 and that was pretty bad for me. With the pain, I learned to stay on top of it. Don't wait until you start hurting to take your pain meds, especially the first couple of days. It's expected which is why they give them to you in the first place. I used a heating pad when laying down and always tried to lay on my left side... and if I could, I'd lay a thinner pillow under my stomach to kind've give it extra cushion. Getting up took a lot of time and if I moved to fast I'd get a shooting pain (still do sometimes) and so I started taking the time to do it.

    Also, ask for help when you need it. I know it's a silly thing, but you need your recovery to be as smooth as possible.

    And I've learned that things left at room temp, for me, were easier to tolerate than things that were freezing cold, fresh out of the fridge, or too hot.



  11. achappex3 how was the surgery? How not to much of an issue!

    I am following in your footsteps so I am curious about the process. How are you feeling? Back at work? Hungry, sick, tired? All the usual stuff people ask.
    By the way awesome progress!!!



    Surgery was fine, and I was told by my doctor it went really well. I was up and walking a few hours after. The pain was decent after and I never went above a 2.5-3 on the pain scale, nor did I need to use the pain pump very often. The very next day I went home. That's when the pain started. I didn't pass any gas until Saturday (tmi) and I had a bm for the first time since surgery yesterday (extra tmi.) I finally started feeling better Monday night and gradually am getting better as days progress. I couldn't imagine going back to work... every little thing makes me tired and I get grumpy and agitated. No "real" hunger but I was able to go to full liquids Saturday, and if my tummy allows it I'll be going to purees today[emoji4] I have been able to sleep comfortably, but can still not sleep on my back. Left side, where the drain was is still REALLY painful.

    I am all for helping lol. Ask away[emoji4]



  12. Just giving a quick little update to those who have been following my journey...
    My preop liquid diet started: February 8th of this year. During that time I lost a total of 15.4 pounds total.
    Surgery day was: march 1st of this year and within this last week I have lost a total of: 12.1 pounds!!!
    Omg! so in a month there has been 28 pounds that are gone F O R E V E R.
    Yes there has been pain, and lots of tears, and flat out uncomfortableness. But this makes it so worth it. 28 pounds down and my clothes (those I can wear with has been dresses, leggings, and tanks/tees) already fit different!! Not to mention the amount of times my family tells me, "your face already looks so much smaller!!"
    Will forever thank GOD for gifting me with this opportunity.
    It's hard, but doable. Just have to keep my eye on the prize!
