  1. How soon can one have a drink or two after surgery? I'm know I'll ask my doc this and follow his instruxtions, but I was just wondering how long it was until you had let's say a margarita?
  2. So what are your options if you have a slip, or what are the actions taken to fix it? Do you lose your band after a slip? Or can they fix the slip? In an erosion, do they have to completely remove the band and you lose it forever? I get confused with these two, could someone explain?
  3. I called my surgeons office to ask them what "type of band" they use, and the nurse said that they use the "Lap Band" the maker is Allergan Pharmaceuticals. I think the way she was making it sound, they are own the right to calling it the original Lap Band, they were the company that invented it???? They use the newer one, and it's a 10cc band and the locking mechanism is diff. that the first one and it hasa "pillowlike" inside that holds the saline, instead of the one ring innertube-like one . I"m guessing the bandsters that have 10cc bands have this one?? Not sure, I know the Realize is made by J&J, and I believe is a 4cc one. Can anyone shed some light as to which one they have?
  4. BTW< I was posting to the original poster, I kinda regret posting anything all all, but MAN oh Man, she got to me! Sorry about the rant ladies and gents, I didn't mean to offend anyone!
  5. I haven't read all the posts yet, but man are you an unhappy woman...but I feel you a little bit, you are pissed off at the world that you cannot pig out like you used to, I know I'll be, but I'm getting therapy for it, b/c I"m angry at something else, not food. I"m angry that I am different that others and I HATE that I'm FAT, but I'm going to finally do something about it, and thats that. No matter what the consequences are, I gotta do this. You might have been under the assumption that you could eat what you want but only less....sorry charlie, not always the case? Did you do your homework before surgery, a b/c if you did and you read all the neg. things that could possibly happen, you might not have done it.....so why did you do it? To still be so unhappy, you say you are happy b/c of the weight loss, but c'mon you don't come on here like some raving lunatic trying to scare us all, don't kid yourself you are still unhappy for the same reasons that made you FAT in the first place, START DEALING WITH THEM! Get an UNFILL and see if that helps, Jesus Christ stop ridiculing all of us and shit or get off the pot already!
  6. I am talking with this other girl on a military wives forum who is getting WLS, when I told her about what I'm having done, this was her response: "Im actually having the LapRNY on May 13th, my preop appt is on May 8th..im so excited but a little scared!! I didnt go with the lapband because of the high failure rate and problems with the band itself..i was told it can migrate in ur body and can cause all sorts of problems and its easier to cheat so i didnt want any of that..so where are you on ur journey through weightloss?" Is this true? Kinda worries me now....
  7. I know this is a dumb question but I think my love of food is getting the better of me. I feel like the more I read on, everyone seems to be on a diet with this band and eating so different than pre-band. I was kinda under the assumption that you could eat a lot of what you want, obviously not ice cream and fried foods, but eat sensibly but only you won't be able to eat the amounts you used to. I eat sensibly now, I just eat WAY too much of it and overdo my calories. With all the talk of protein shakes and whatnot, it scares my that I will permanetly be on this restrictive diet the REST OF MY LIFE! I know these are preband jitters, and I am panicking like some of you said you did preop. I just wanna give into my cravings once in a while but have the band hold me back a bit....this is what it'll do right? I could have asked this question weeks ago and don't remember, so forgive me, I"m really in panick mode, I'm afraid just afraid of the unknown. It's like any new job I've started, I'm real nervous beforehand and once I get the hang of it, I'm like, "what was I ever worried about?" Is this all true for you guys???
  8. GOSH! So many others GAINED while BFIng! I thought I was nuts! I'm like, isn't this supposed to help me get some weight off, by burning extra calories??? I was ravenous all the time! Like a crazed animal looking for food! I couldn't eat enough, and 5 months later, it continues....I'm NEVER full, so I am praying to God this helps me, I just wanna feel satisfied. Both my PGcies I ate what I wanted pretty much, but certain things turned me off, so I only gained 30-40 with each andlost it right away. I"m heavier now than I was 2 weeks after having DD #2, go figure....

    April 23 anyone?

I live near Gurnee, having mine done at Highland Park Hosp. I THINK My surgery is first thing in the AM, like 7:30 or so? So great! I'm glad I have a band buddy! Where in WI do you live?
  10. katie78

    Hello from Illinois

HEY! Congrats! Where in IL are you? I'm up in the Northwest Suberbs of Chi, being banded 4-23 at Highland Park, where did you have yours done?
  11. Angel~ Totally! As I read somepost I felt like things were a NO NO! As soo as someone tells me I can't have something, I want it 10x more! Now, that said, I don't like being in pain, and if two bites of the best choc. cake in the world make me sick...I WILL NOT TOUCH IT OR MISS IT! PERIOD! I hate pain! Don't know why I did so well in childbirth, guess cuz I knew it wouldn't last forever?? I just know it's my portions that are WAY too big, not really my food choices....but I do make bad ones occationally, I'll be honest. It's so the fear or the unknown, I know it is....I just want to fight this evil battle I've had my whole life. I want hubby to look at me and say, damn thats MY wife:tt1:! I wanna say Damn look at me go...KWIM?
  12. I"m have surgery 4-23, hubby is taking 7 days of leave, and I have my Mom nearby. I have a 4 yr old, (won't be lifting her) and a nine month old. She's about 20lbs. I for sure won't lift anything for a week, but after that, could I pick her up out of her crib? Out of the high chair? I feel like I pick her up often, she's crawling and getting into things, so yeah it's about 50 times a day! I'm just wanting to prepare the best way, to tell my Mom what exactly she'll need to be helping with and for how long....so how long did you all wait?
  13. HI, I'm being banded 4-23-08, and am currentl 275, on a 5"8 frame. We have two wonderfull DD. BUt know we want one more, I was thinking to wait until after the 3rd to get the band, but hell no I'm NOT getting PG at my highest weight! NO WAY! SO....my question is once I get down to a decent weight, I"m shooting for around 200-210, and then possibly trying....seems by the posts that a lot of you have problems, not during the PG's but AFTER. I think I would just die if I lost all that weight, looked and felt better, and then to gain it all back. I never threw up with any of my PG's, just constantly nauseous for three months, but every PG is diff. and I can't say that I wouldn't with the third. SO is it really common to have problems after? Maybe it being PG ahifts your anatomy some? Like pushes things up and around for 9 months, and thats what can causes problems after? IDK, I"m kinda freaking out, I want one more but I have to be here in the long run for the two I already have KWIM? Can anyone shed some light here?
  14. I'm really wanting to get together with any of you that are willing. I benefit SO much from being accountable to other people and I really wanna get this going! Saturdays work well for me, what are everyone's thoughts?? I would even drive downtown if thats the best meeting spot? You all let me know!

  18. As I sit here, (prebanded) eating a plateful of brownies...(I can't believe I'm admitting to this)(but I know we've all been here) and sobbing trying to type, I'm wondering....am I doing the right thing? My surgery date is 4-23-08, and I"m praying to God this is going to change my life. I don't want to eat this way anymore, but I DON"T KNOW ANY OTHER WAY OR COMFORT! I'm so tired of this!!!!!!!!!!! Will the band let me eat a pan of brownies??? I HOPE Not! I can't stop! I'm a HUGE emotional eater and I am in the process of getting a therapist to see once a week starting now, and to follow up with post op. I know I need help with some of the things inside me that make me wanna eat. Will the band really help control my portions????? I'm scared it won't, and I'll fail...once again, story of my life. I"m never full and find myself always eating. I"m scared of how I will need to change the way i eat, b/c I have such poor eating habits now, I'm scared I'll be banded and not know what the hell to eat! Can someone help, I"m REALLY struggling with this now that I got my date yesterday, I"m scared shittless, I don't know any other way than this.....please help me.....
  19. why is it so bad to eat or "cheat" on your post op diet? if you chew chew chew, to mush, are you hurting your pouch? Is the point of the post op diet to "heal" or what?
  20. Thank you so much, I know there is people out there like me, I just can't believe how much i rely on food, seriously it scares me! We'll just have to be there for each other! NURSE we are close in our dates huh??? Keep in touch!

  22. I finally got my date, 4/23/08, and I was thinking of the same thing!
  23. Can you EVER drink soda or beer again? I LOVE a soda every once in a while, and a couple coronas on the weekend.....am I giving this up for good? Can anyone drink beer at all?
  24. My doc said that i should eat 3x a day and thats it? Breakfast lund and dinner and maybe a snack inbetween. DOes that sound right? He said that the people that come to him that haven't lost any weight, he says that they eat 3x a day and snack and/or graze all day long?, but I kinda thought eating throughout the day would be better? Keeping the metabolism up? IDK what do you all do?
  25. Saw the dietician today and this is what they gave me for post op diet: just wanted to see if this is what you all are doing Clear and Full Liquids for two weeks: including strained broth, low fat cream soups, cream of wheat, skim milk, light yogurt, diluted juice, tomato juice, popsicles, crrystal light, jello, pudding, carnation instant breakfast, protein shakes THEN: Pureed/Very soft foods for two weeks THEN : Soft foods, for two weeks, I guess then that would put me at six weeks and on to regular food, but she said to add food one thing at a time so that if something doesn't sit well, I'll know what it might be. How does this all sound normal? I feel like I'm going to be a grouch for the 6 weeks! Oh and also! This she said is really important: HAVE ONLY 1 CUP TOTAL FOOD PER MEAL 3 TIMES A DAY, For instance: 1 large scrambled egg 1/4 hot cereal 1/4 sugar free yogurt 1/4 light canned fruit===all equals a cup I feel like I'm going to be starving! Did any of you find this?
