Newbie to VSG, just starting my journey

I asked today when I talked to them and they couldn't say if it would be days, weeks, whatever. She said she didn't think it would be too long, but she couldn't commit to a time frame :/ I guess the doc I was scheduled with is off until further notice and the other doc is not in the office currently??? I didn't ask for specifics but she said "when Dr. *** gets back" they'd start filling her schedule (with reference to the doc taking over future appts). I just hope it's sooner rather than later! It sounds like they are very chaotic there right now so I didn't want to add to the stress by being pushy

Feb 6, 2017 ===================== Well I was supposed to be at my "final check in" today, right now. But now I wait for a call to be rescheduled. I did verify that I can drop below a 40 BMI and still be OK with regards to insurance since I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea (even if it is mild) and have to use meds to treat hypertension. Which is good because as of this weekend I'm RIGHT at 40 on my scale - so if it takes a week or two to get in to the doc I could be right on the border or a little under. I don't want to change my eating since it's become much easier for me to eat high Protein and low carb this past month and I seem to be losing steadily on it. Fingers crossed they get me in in the next couple weeks!!! I'm really hoping to get sleeved by mid-March as we have a vacation planned at the end of April and I want 4-6 weeks to rest before we go!!! :/

    Ugh....6 months?!?!

My insurance didn't require anything like that but my surgeon required an 8% loss and it took me way longer then it should have (finally met it last appt). Life got in the way - we moved unexpectedly and I used to be a stress eater (working on that) so I maintained for a few months. I've been in my program for 8 months and should be getting a date soon. Honestly, I'm glad I had to wait. I say that now, lol. It has definitely been frustrating, I thought I'd be sleeved by Sept/Oct and down a big chunk by this point, maybe close to goal by Summer. But I know that by having to wait, I'm much more mentally ready then I would have been even 3-4 months ago. But that's just me. I know firsthand how much waiting sucks when you make the decision! I was supposed to go in for my scheduling appt tomorrow and they cancelled it due to Dr emergency. No idea when I'll get back in - so frustrating! Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

My appt for Monday was just cancelled due to a doctor emergency. They don't know when I'll be rescheduled. Bummer. I was really hoping for a late Feb or early March date. No idea if that will happen now. And I'm right at 40 BMI so I have to be super careful now until I can get in. At least they're going to reschedule people in the order they were supposed to go in so hopefully once they start rescheduling I'll get right in. I can't believe they don't have a backup Doctor/coordinator to do this stuff. I can't imagine they'll wait too long to get people rescheduled somehow. But this is so disappointing. Stomach gurgling?!

My friend had the surgery 5 years ago and used to refer to that as her 'wookie' . I think it lasted quite a while, she just got used to it. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

Feb 3, 2017 ================== Went for my EKG and labs this week, and have my next appointment on Monday with the program coordinator. I'm hoping she'll be submitting to insurance at that point and maybe give me a tentative schedule. I've heard that my insurance is quick, so fingers crossed! I have 2 dinners out this weekend so I'm going to have to be careful! I don't want to have gained since my last appt, that wouldn't be good. Lots of Water and good choices for me this weekend . I've been sick since yesterday morning and I'm really not hungry so that should help a bit. I'm still making sure to get in my Protein though so that I don't mess things up. 7. My doc should be submitting after my appt next week. I've been doing this since last May, so I'm very ready to move on and get past the surgery! Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

Thanks for the support!! I appreciate it more than you know. Only 4 people know I'm doing this and I don't talk about it much off this forum, so I get the majority of my support here! On another note - Target had swimsuits out when I went today. Ugh! So glad I'll be a few months post op when the heat returns this Summer. I cover up with a light sweater year round because I don't want my rolls exposed. I can't wait to be comfortable in tanks and shorts, and not be afraid to swim in my pool in front of other people! January 25, 2017 ========================= They approved me moving forward! I have some labs and an EKG to do and in less than 2 weeks I see the program coordinator to make sure I'm good to go. Then they submit to insurance and once approved I get a date! They said on average it's 4-6 weeks from this point. I've got lots of mixed emotions going on right now... but mostly excitement

    Telling kids?

Hi all! Getting close to surgery and throughout this process I've only told my kids (8 & 10) that the reason for my many appts is that the doctor is helping me lose weight. I have no clue what I'm going to say to them about my hospital stay/recovery. The 8 year old would accept a simple "the doctor had to fix something in my belly" explanation, but the 10 year old is much more likely to want details. I think I'm going to just stick with the simple explanation and tell them it's nothing to worry about, but I don't want to scare them either way. I've already drastically changed my eating habits so that shouldn't be anything new to them. For those with kids - what did you tell them? Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

Grrr I bounced back up 2 lbs :/ the only thing I did differently was eat a salad for lunch yesterday. I really should have known better, every time I eat a salad I gain weight for a day or two. I need to not do that again for the next 4 days!!! Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

    It's hard !

I had the same problem! Got all the requirements done by Oct but it took until now to lose the last 10 lbs (I had to lose 22). All that works for me is to go high protein/low carb and be super strict. Protein shakes, chicken, cheese, steamed veggies, Water. That's what I've been eating. Haven't had bread or Pasta or anything else like that since Christmas. I was stuck with 6lbs to lose at my Dec appt (22nd) and finally hit my goal this week. I hope to lose another 1-2 before my appt next week to be safe I won't lie, the first two weeks was hard! But I've been doing this for 8 months and I'm ready to move forward so I just pushed through. Good luck! Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

    Hi, I am sooooo NEW!

I had my seminar last May and should be getting a surgery date in the next couple weeks (hopefully for Feb/March) - but the long process was my fault. My insurance doesn't require much and is easy to work with and I've been done most of my surgeon's requirements since October. I've been having trouble losing the weight my surgeon required, but i finally got to that goal this week - that was the last thing holding me up! Good luck with the process!! Nut & Psych Eval

My psych eval was two 1-hour sessions 2 weeks apart. I also had to take 6 hours of lifestyle change classes ( which I chose to take in one Saturday class). Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

Could I be denied if my BMI goes down?

I was told that I had to have a BMI of 40 when they submitted to insurance but then I could go under. Which is good because I'll be very close to 40 within the next few pounds!! I think it's really dependent on your insurance. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

January 16, 2017 ============== 9 days until my next appointment. At my first appt way back in June, I was told I needed to be at 253.2 (about 250-251) by my home scale) and have all other requirements met before they would schedule my surgeon meeting. A few months ago (after meeting all requirements except the weight loss), they told me they if I could get to within 5 lbs of that goal, they'd schedule me. At my Dec appt, I was 6lbs over my goal. Yep. Grrr. As of this morning I was 254.8 on my scale, putting me within 4-5 lbs on my home scale!!! I am down over 3 since my Dec appt (again, based on my home scale). So I have 9 more days to drop another couple lbs and get safely into that 5 lb range. My diet since Christmas has been lots of Water, high protein/ low carb. No caffeine, no alcohol, no excess sugar, etc. Lots of sleep. I have lost 3 lbs since Jan 1st with this. Let's see how much more I can lose!! Fingers crossed my body cooperates on WI day I plan to bring a change of light clothes with me to put on before I weigh. Jeans can't be helping Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App
