I have never heard the 1 in 50 ratio. Where did you get that? My surgeon has had over 4000 successful surgeries and only 2 deaths (I think -- I might be misremembering and it is only 1). The one I remember him telling us about was because the man would not get up and walk after surgery. When he went home his family wouldn't let him get up and walk so he had a blood clot.
According to my surgeon, the two biggest risks are pneumonia and blood clots. My surgeon had very specifically addressed those risk with medication (like blood thinners), tools (spirometer use, leg compression thingies, etc.), and instructions (walking, etc.).
Yes, there is risk of death from any surgery. For me, the risk of dying from obesity was much, much higher.
The best thing you can do is follow your surgeon's instructions to the letter. Everything he asks you to do is to make sure you go into the surgery as healthy as possible and to have the most successful outcome.

Perhaps you'd better read up on everything from much more reliable sources of information.

Okay, 1. My doctor allows my 40-60 carbs a day because I train as a wrestler. Your guidelines are yours.
    2. A "boatload" of food for you, you cannot eat that much. But for me, I just did. I do not feel like I'm uncomfortably full, I feel normal. Don't apply your situation to everyone else when giving advice.
    3. Your style of "advice" is not advice, it is condescending. People come here for advice, not to be parented and looked down upon. We are all adults.
    4. I track everything. Calories in, calories out. Macros, and micros. My question was simple in nature. If you thought it was too much, too quick, all you needed to do was leave your last bit. You could hold off on the rest.

    Hi,
I'm new this forum. I began my process on January 4th of 2016. After many Dietician visits, Psych. visits, sleep tests and Primary Dr. visits I was finally told that after my next dietary visit I would be green lighted for surgery. I met with my Surgeon this past Friday. He was very nice and answered all mine and my wife's questions. Reality is kind of setting in with me. I know this not a surgery I want to do but need to do for my long term health. Heart disease and Diabetes run in our family so I'm trying to be very proactive with my health now vs waiting down the line to do a procedure.
My main fears are the surgery itself. I HATE DR'S and HOSPITALS! I have had many operations on both my knees due to college football injuries so I kind of know what to expect on the day of surgery as it pertains to pre-op, Anesthesia, Etc.
Can anyone tell me how you felt coming out of surgery?
My surgeon has told me I will be hospitalized for 2 days.
    How was pain?
I've had 2 major knee surgeries so I know what real pain feels like. I've seen so many conflicting reports about pain post VSG. I have complete faith that I will be kept as comfortable as possible but am more or less trying to prepare myself for what lies ahead after the surgery.
