  1. I guess I'm jst trying to get opinions on any sugar free sweets after surgery...I have IBSD bad! So yeah I don't want dumping syndrome either...my mom is diabetic so I'm used to SF things in the house growing up...but again I'm scared of regain & wanting sweets after surgery ...I'm jst questioning thoughts on avoiding all together or if it's best to do lil at a time so you don't binge on sweets eventually?? Idk if that makes sense...but jst trying to get thoughts

  2. I'm honestly scared to eat any sweets (sugar free Jello included)... I have read too many stories of regain & I'm scared once I start down that path it will eventually make me gain weight (sugar free or not) ...I know it's about portion etc but still was wondering would it be better not to introduce sweets at all or jst do sweets in lil increments? (PS...I have everything submitted & approved, jst waiting on a surgery date..so haven't talked to ANYONE about anything yet as far as surgeons and foods)...but that recipe sounds yummy

I'm jst starting a YouTube chnnl & I'm going to take videos as much as I can throughout the process....one: for something to look back on for motivation when I hit "stalls" & two: so others who have many questions can at least see what I'm going through...

I put up a "test video" last night...jst because...but I am going to start documenting my PreOp visits, shopping for things I'll need postop, my actual surgery date (film as much as I can in the hospital), post op (pain & water/food/vitamin intake) etc....

If anyone wants to watch or follow: look for ..."BariatricGirl 4life" under R&Y intro (I think)... more to come!!

Also have a FB Acct under that name if want to add or follow ????

  8. Yes, I know this is shallow... but it broke my heart and now I am completely upset.

One of my two year olds (I have twins) took a picture of me while messing with my phone. It was completely off guard and a picture of me standing sideways... I LOOK HORRIBLE. Absolutely horrible. I'm 22. I have been overweight and this isn't new, but I didn't think I looked that bad. Now all I can do is wonder if this is what the world sees of me? A sloppy extremely fat black girl...

To make matters worse, my family laughed. My mom said "that'll be a great comparison picture," but she laughed first. I know they're all extremely supportive. But that completely made me wonder what they've been thinking, and saying behind my back...

My very last thing before submission, my class, is Wednesday. I have my sleep consultation on the 12th. But was told that it wouldn't put a pause on submission and rather or not I'd be approved (I have a BMI of well over 40...). I am longing for this surgery. Longing for the days I'm able to have these random "off guard" pictures of me taken, and be able to laugh and say "wow!!" I am longing for the days where I won't be the biggest person in the room, heck or the biggest person in the gym. I am completely 110% ready for this surgery and today has confirmed it. There are moments in which I doubt, and try to scare myself into thinking this isn't for me, but it is. I am suffering from addiction.

Addictions make you feel good even when they're horrible for you. I'm not a sweets person, my whole thing was chips... but now I'm ready.

I cannot wait for the next part or this journey.

I feel ya honey!!! Omg I NEVER see myself as fat as I am...Reality hits when I try on clothes, see myself in pics, or catch a glimpse of myself in a full length mirror or window reflection...my first thought: "Dude...that's me?!!" ... then I get depressed & get even more self conscience & my anxiety kicks in & makes me think everyone is judging me

I AM SOOOOO READY FOR THIS!! Can't wait for them to call me next week w/ my SET SURGERY DATE!!! (Looks to be the beginning of November)....can't wait to shop for clothes that don't look (sorry if this offends anyone!) Granny-fied ...they think all big peeps want big flowers or print or jst UGLY clothing?! .

My main store I wanna hit when I lose weight... PINK!!! Love their glittery cute hoodies!!!

I have never in my life worn a pair of heels...so that's one on my bucket list too!! Can't wait to shop in normal sized clothing!! ????

  9. Congratulations. Eat high lean Protein and low carb. Try to stay away from pastas, rice, bread, alcohol. Your liver needs to be pliable because the Dr is going to move it. Low carb will keep it soft.

Drink lots of Water especially the days closest to surgery. It will help flush the anesthesia.

For the hospital, I brought to much. In reality all I needed was toiletries, clean underwear and my cpap machine. I was in overnight, used hospital gowns and slippers, went home in the same clothes I went in.

Prep at home included 2 full Brita Water pitchers, premiere Protein shakes(for a week later), Crystal Light (too sweet for md), Vitamin Patches I ordered from PatchMD.com, Tylenol tablets and milk of magnesia. I never used the Tylenol or milk of M. I was given prescriptions for pain and naseau in the hospital and we filled them on the way home. Also a pillow for the way home, a small one to put between seatbelt and you.

The first day was tough, surgery at 9 a.m. I was walking by 5 30 and kept walking for about 20 minutes, rest for 30, walk for 20...... Took my pain meds like clock work to stay ahead of it. At home I stopped pain meds after day 2, with the exception of an additional one on a day I did too much. There's no lifting, vacuuming, walking dog according to Drs orders, remember the internal stitches. When home drink, walk, rest. I slept in my bed.

I hope this is helpful. Good luck to you.

Ty!! Yup wondered how the hospital stay & 1st couple of days home were gonna go...I am worried I won't be able to sleep in my bed, a few people said they had to sleep in recliners the 1st few days???

  10. I had my surgery on Monday and have just gotten home. Overall, it wasn't too terrible. However, one of my incisions in my left side is is unbelievably sore. I knew I would be sorer on that side an any other but OMG!!! I had no troubles meeting my Water intake goal (64 oz) and walking in order to leave the hospital.

Now that I'm home, the real work starts. Got to keep up the Clear liquids for the next several days and getting some Protein in. Also, painkillers are my fav right now! Ha!

    I was just approved...so I'm wondering :

64 oz clear liquid for how long? What is nxt phase (how long?) ...how much Protein intake etc...how was you pain in the hospital? What did you take to hospital? Any other useful input?

  11. Called my insurance (UHC) because they had til Friday to give me an answer & they told me I AM APPROVED FOR SURGERY!!! yaaaaay!!! ???????????? FINALLY!!

But now after all my research and all my time I put in on this App (I've been off this app for like 3weeks cuz it was depressing that I was denied)....now I am back to square one wondering what my next steps are & what I need to prepare for surgery day & Post-OP!!

Ugh I know I'm being repetitive on asking what I need...but seriously if anyone has TIME or INPUT ...please feel free to respond to this! I'm assuming my surgery date will be by Halloween (cuz they told me once I'm approved it will be like 2-3wks then I'll be in surgery!)

So my question is: 1: what happens in the next couple of weeks (classes, PreOp screens, etc) ...2: What shld I pack for hospital...3: what all shld I stock up on at home for post op?

I was told there are no specific PreOp diets jst continue w/ meat/veggies/fruit diet...BUT ...I got discouraged & I basically was saying farewell to food at same time if that makes sense (I still had hope I'd get my ansr soon) & have been eating like I want for last couple of weeks (so I gained some weight bk) ... I mean I didn't eat too terribly (calories is main thing that wasn't overboard) ... But now I'm thinking ...maybe I shld jst do liquid PreOp diet that I've been reading everyone usually does for the next couple weeks til surgery jst to feel like I'm safe for shrinking my liver for surgery??? Thoughts??? Lmk....

  12. I have UHC as well and I'm wondering if it's the surgeon that's the issue. Is your surgeon's practice considered a "Bariactric Center of Excellence" because that was necessary for my insurance? I know each company has its own criteria but my UHC provider required my surgeon to be part of this and I had no issue with getting approved. Check and see if that's the issue.

    Will do!

  13. @@Mysticpink74 You need to find out why you were denied first. It may have been incorrectly submitted or missing info. You have a high BMI (over 50) and usually don't need a comorbidity. There has to be another reason. Did you meet all of their preop requirements?

Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

Yes I met all requirements & even got a letter from my surgeon saying "Congrats you've met all requirements needed for you UHC insurance" then it went on to say it would take a few days for the nurse to write up something & submit it to my insurance ...I waited a week & called and.....well...you know the rest
