  1. So what do you eat? What are your go to foods?

chicken. Definitely chicken. Ground turkey is a close second. Still trying to keep Protein as my #1. I don't use the shakes anymore but I do keep the Protein powder on hand just in case I feel the need. No Pasta because it's an all time favorite and I'm sure I'd keep going with it.

Thank you for the answer to the food question. So what made you quit the Protein Shakes? I'm only a few weeks in from my sleeve surgery. You look great! How much have you lost?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App

In total I've lost 106. Some before surgery of course but most since having it done.

The shakes are fine, I like the chocolate unjury but it didn't really make me feel full. The satisfaction of chewing is a factor for me.

  2. I rarely take pictures but when I realized how much different I looked I had to.

I feel like a different person after 6 months.

Seriously? After just 6 months? I am almost sleeved for 4 month and I could barely lose 30 lbs.

I lost quickly, then very slow but before I knew it the scale was down a good amount. I've been at a stand still for quite a while however, I know in time it will budge. Keep at it.

  3. Hi guys!!

So I received the dreaded denial. My doctor and I sent in an appeal so now I wait, again. I know the time frame is 30 days, but what is your experience with appeal time frame before you are notified?

Also, I would like to how many were approved or denied after an appeal. I look forward to hearing from each of you. :)

I also have anthem and was originally denied. They said I didn't qualify (I certainly do). Anyhow, the woman who processes the insurance paperwork at the surgeons office called them and discussed. Turns out, that Anthem is very picky. They want the paperwork done in an exact manner. My denial was turned into an approval in 2 days (over the weekend btw).

Surgery completed on time in April 2016.

  4. So its interesting that most of the comments I've seen about the pre-op diet people on are liquids. I was NOT put on a liquid diet. I was put on a low carb diet. I'm to keep my carbs under 30 per day and was given a list of what I could eat (which includes lots of solid food). I was told to take milk of magnesia and an acid reducer for the 2 days before surgery and I'm to be on clear sugar-free liquids the day before surgery. Does anyone else have a pre-op diet resembling mine?

Mine was a regular diet until the day before. That last day was Clear Liquids, Jello, popsicles, etc.

  5. I agree with everyone else. Don't give up. I have always been a sweets eater so I made the decision to not tempt myself. I don't think they will make me sick, I just know they won't really do much for my nutrition. Besides, there will always be cake, or other goodies so I know I can have them another day. I have seen people losing quickly while others are slow. It doesn't matter to me what everyone else does. My Dr and nutritionist are pleased with my results and so am I. Work on you, forget everyone else and yes, talk to a professional. Can't hurt.

  6. I made the decision to not tell people. My family does not believe in the surgery. I've been heavy my entire life and hitting 40 has caused some major concerns. I started at 236 had surgery 4/13/16 and now 6 weeks later & 40 pounds lighter I couldn't be happier. We all hear just diet and exercise. Easier said than done sometimes. I now pay very close attention to what I eat and I walk at least 5 miles a day. Surgery is not an easy answer and sometimes people don't understand that. Best of luck with surgery and the family. ????

  7. I'm on Day 2 of the (mostly) liquid diet. I cheated a little today (2 small cheese quesadillas that I baked). OF COURSE, I feel SO guilty now. I'm allowed at least 3 Protein shakes, plus broth, a small bowl of salad, a small cup of crunchy fresh veggies, sugar free Jello and ice pops. But I'm STILL starving. I've seen varied diets, too- just depends on your surgeon, I guess. I'm 5'6, 236 lbs. I get my sleeve surgery on 5/4. I plan to be 100% diligent starting tomorrow. It's just going to take A LOT of getting used to...but I want to lose as much pre-op. I'm hoping post-op the hunger will mostly be gone.

Good luck! And I'm glad I'm not alone :)

I was sleeved 4/13. I'm yet to be hungry, so I wouldn't worry about that part after. Makes it a little easier to stick with the plan.

  8. I start my real pre op diet next week. The reason it varies from person to person mainly depends on BMI. People who aren't as overweight don't need it as long. My doc suggested a 1200 calorie diet from day 1 at his office 3 months ago and is having me do 10 day full liquid. My BMI is 46 I believe. Bigger people have bigger livers that have to shrink for surgery and that is done by liquid diet.

My BMI was about that. Actually exactly 46. still no pre op diet and no trouble. There are patients larger & smaller where I go, they do not use the pre op diet for anyone. Hopefully, anyone willing to have surgery to help with weight loss has already learned to work with a sensible diet.

  9. @@mskittykat03 I'm feeling really good, just a little soreness. I'm not taking any pain/nausea meds. I'm sorry you're not feeling good. Each day will get better!

Anesthesia is not my friend. That's what caused my issues. Incisions are not bad, intake is awful. Can't manage much. Better than yesterday so you are right it will get better.

When are you allowed full liquids? I start tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it. I sometimes cramp a little when drinking, but I'm getting in most of my required fluids.
I can have full liquids now as well as yogurt & puddings. Not feeling it. Not meeting my goals but still trying. Better today than yesterday.

  10. I'm set for 4/13 ...no time yet. Started my program in May 2015 so it's been a long process. The nice part is that there is no pre op diet per say. Only Clear liquids the day before. Even I can do that. . . Jello counts.

    :)

I'm April 13 as well, with only one day of clear liquid. I'm relived because I've heard so many that have had to go two weeks with Clear Liquids before surgery. Let me know how your surgery goes.
How did you make out @@BillsMafia? I'm home and feeling awful. Hope you're doing well.

When did you start your process? Did your ins co have any requirements ?

You've got it @Billsmafia. I'm freaking out a bit but surely I can manage. Where are you having surgery? I'm in Massachusetts.

In Huntsville (North Alabama). I'm not nervous at all, but my wife, on the other hand, is freaking out a bit. Where is yours happening?
I'm headed to Worcester Massachusetts. I've debated for quite a while. I know we'll all be good.

  13. I'm not finding many people in my life who are supportive. It's okay with me, I knew how they felt about the procedure before I made a decision so I've made the decision to not discuss with those individuals. It is not their place to make such judgements about how we handle our health. I've only shared with my significant other who is incredibly helpful and a few friends, not my family as they do not believe someone my size needs surgery. We all need to do what is best for our health, not do what our friends and family want us to do.

I know my family loves me but that is the problem, they love me as is. Maybe they are the ones afraid of change?
