  1. The main issue is that if you drink while eating, the Water mixes with the food and flushes through your stomach more quickly and therefor you won't feel full as long and will be able to eat much more. It's basically a way of bypassing your restriction, making it easier for you to eat more food.< /p>

Drinking before eating can allegedly fill you up and make you eat less, and therefore not get ENOUGH food, but I find that theory to be pretty much BS, because I watched my post-op leak test and saw how fast liquid moved through my stomach. It was through in a matter of seconds, so the rule of not drinking for 20+ minutes before eating just seems like a surefire way to NOT get enough liquids in. I drink right up to the time I start eating.

Drinking after eating will just make you overfull and uncomfortable. If your stomach is full of food, there's nowhere for the liquid to go and it'll just sit on top of the food and possibly get backed up into your esophagus, which is NOT good.

But as I said, drinking WHILE eating is the most dangerous. Because when the food mixes with liquid to become a more apple-sauce like consistently, it passes through more quickly and makes it easier to eat more, defeating the whole purpose of the restriction.

Embrace the Restriction that's what we went through the surgery for.

  2. Does anyone know the reason we have to space out our drinking with our meals? Is this something we have to do forever? I am 2 years out and haven't been doing it for a while now and wonder if it would help me get back on track. Someone had told me that was only while you were newly sleeved. I'm just trying to understand.

I was told that when you drink with your meals you tend to eat more because you're drinking will liquefy your meals rather than just your body's natural juices.

Always and forever. My understanding is that 1) it can stretch the pouch (whether or not that is true or not) and 2) the liquid will make the food run out of the stomach, causing you to feel less full.

    Exactly

  4. I was just wondering what could happening switching to purée a day or so early? I feel like I am going to puke tasting my shakes now. My body has obviously have enough of that flavor.

I would be afraid to try it! My nutritionist stressed the importance of following the phases to the letter so that the stomach can properly heal. But it really depends on how the first useful spoonfuls sit in your stomach. Good luck.

  5. Thank you for the replies! I guess I was thinking the PCP would be more involved than she actually will be :) Looking over the papers it doesn't look like she needs to provide much more than the referral, recommendation letter, and lab/physical history. That should be easy for any PCP I'd think.

I just have to hope she's supportive of my choice :)

Now to find a psychologist for the eval. That has to be completed before I can even submit my intake form!

I'm surprised your bariatric team is not providing you with names of psychologist that provide the service

  6. Hi-C, I am a Lap Band to SIPS revision. I am 9 days post-op and down 14 pounds! Surgery went well. The next day, I was taken down for an esophagram to check for leaks and everything was good. The worst part was having to drink the contrast. I felt weak and groggy and uncomfortable but not really in pain. Today I walked walked 1 mile and a half and I'm feeling good! Your date will be here before you know it. I'm so excited for you!

  7. OK...you do know that if they showed what 'real' people who eat all that crap look like, they wouldn't sell any of it, right? These kind of rants will dissipate once you see how good you look and feel. Then you won't care that these commercials don't show the reality of what eating that type of food actually does to you.

Go walking, I am so glad someone said it. I live with my husband and I just finished preparing him buffalo wings with ranch dressing on the side! Tje whole house smells of his dinner. I on the other hand had runny Beans and a cup of tea.. but I'm the one with the weight problem! It is important that I always remember the "WHY" behind my decision to have the SIPS procedure 9 days ago. I am down 14 pounds and I can see the weight loss in the mirror. No food is worth that feeling I received from looking at myself. Keep your heads up and watch DVDs instead lol.

  8. I had RNY gastric bypass surgery whereas you had gastric sleeve. I take a lot of Vitamins and will do so for the rest of my life. But only one of my Vitamins was a chewable. I was also told do not use the gummy vitamins. So you may want to check with your nutritionist before you make that change.

After surgery, I lost the ability to swallow anything medium to large, so most of my vitamins either had to be split or crushed in order to swallow them. After about 2 months this problem went away and I regained my ability to swallow.

From my perspective all Protein shakes taste terrible. But after surgery I had to take them because the Protein that I consumed from food was so minuscule that my body would be damaged if I didn't. Your protein daily requirement is met by a combination of the protein obtained from protein supplements combined with the protein from meals. As my meal volume increased (over the next 1 1/2 years), I was able to decrease my reliance on Protein Shakes because I concentrated on consuming high protein meals. I went from 3 protein shakes a day, down to 2, then down to 1 and finally none. The important point here is you don't have to like your protein supplement; you just have to tolerate it. I used Muscle Milk Light (Vanilla Creme) blended with Water and added a half a banana to give it better flavor.

Hi Family, I am 9 days post-op SIPS procedure. I've lost 14 pounds and I've actually grown to love my protein shakes! I use EAS vanilla and it tastes really good mixed with Water. Good luck on your procedure and you will not be sorry!

  9. I'm experiencing the same thing at my job. I'm losing weight people see it and I'm wondering how. On my day of surgery I lied and told them I was having an esophageal problem because I've suffered from Gerd for years. Only my immediate family knows and I pray that my sister doesn't mention it on Facebook! I have asked her not to mention it to anyone. I guess the lying for me is due to feeling like a failure at losing weight on my own. But I do not regret my decision to have the SIPS procedure on April 5th 2016. I am down 14 pounds!

  10. I have not experienced what you're going through at this time as I am only 9 days post-op. However I'm having difficulty with consuming running Beans . I'm good with the Protein shakes and the Water sometimes but when I tried to make the Beans experience of fullness for three and a half hours which left me unable to eat anything else for the remainder of the evening. I have to get in at least 40 more grams of Protein before I go to bed. I know it's not going to happen.

  11. Hey folks - I'm brand new to this forum. After months of research and (im)patiently waiting, my surgery is set! I'm scheduled for SIPS on March 10th 2016 in Raleigh, NC. I'll start my liver reduction diet in about a week. In the meantime, I'm enjoying my last few sips of Coke Zero, while I can. Super stoked about this new chapter and finally having the tools to work the weight loss, after an entire life of being heavy. It's all I've ever known, but I'm really looking forward to a new lifestyle. Anyway, I'll refrain from getting into some heavy-duty topics for now. I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi!

Hi Princess. I too am BRAND NEW. Surgery date scheduled for April 5, 2016. PSYCHED!! I can not wait to start this new journey of LIVING. My goal is to feel comfortable in my skin. Getting on a plane and not needing an EXTRA strap will probably make me cry..but they will be tears of JOY! Chat more later.
That has always embarrassed me...the plane ride with extra seatbelt straps! 9 lbs down and counting..

  12. Hey! I'm in the Raleigh area too! I haven't decided on a surgery yet. My consultation is scheduled for April 28th! I'll be going through Duke.

I hope all is going well with you post-op!

Hi there! I am just over two weeks postop. Recovery is going great. I've been able to tolerate everything that I've consumed (drinks & food). I had a slight complication during surgery (a leak in my small intestine), but he fixed me up in surgery and I haven't had a problem at all. Im getting around really well, too - I just get fatigued quickly. So far, so good! Good luck along your journey, and if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help. xo
Hi monster, I am 8 days post SIPS and I feel fabulous! I spent the day planning runny Beans meals, Protein drinks and Greek yogurt meals (totalling 75 grade protein!) Surgery date 4.5.16 weight 255.4. Weight this morning 246.2! Girl you know that is what this journey is all about. I am happy with my decision. Check in with your bariatric team as often as you need to. We are here for you!

  14. Hi all,

My surgery date was 3.16.16 and it definitely a hard process that I underestimated. I never had thoughts of backing out before the surgery but know that I am just over 3 weeks out I feel regret at time. The way things feel right now, I will never be able to have a "normal" meal ever again. I think I am starting to get a but depressed. A lot to do with a single and live alone, I have been back home by myself for just over a week and its hard. Is anyone else having/had feelings or regret or depression post surgery and if so what did you do or doing?

    Thanks

Hi Zora, I am 8 days post SIPS and I know exactly how you feel. I feel lonely and isolated. We live in an EATING and DRINKING society. I spent the day yesterday planning runny Beans meals, Protein drinks and Greek yogurt meals (totalling 75 grade protein!) I wanted to go out to Joe's Crabs hack with my man but realized that is no longer a reality for us AT THIS TIME. Surgery date 4.5.16 weight 255.4. Weight this morning 246.2! Girl you know that is what this journey is all about. You WILL eat again. Hang on there..you are not alone.
