  1. So... if I may ask... @Sanju, how many calories are you taking in every day?

I am 11 weeks out now (today!) and I take about 1200-1300 cals daily with an average of 120 g of carbs, from which very little are coming from bread or potatoes (rice and Pasta are not my friend). I eat about 130- 140 g of Proteins.

I am not a wrestler (I have done many years of Judo though) but I work out 5-6 days a week for 1 h 30, cardio and weight lifting.

I could eat the sandwich you ate. The difference is that I would have stopped at the first full signal and kept the other part for dinner or lunch next day.

You don´t have to finish your meal / sandwich. This is not going to stretch your sleeve, but it is just again its purpose.

I'm eating about 600-800 calories a day. Some days it's about 80-85g of protien and few carbs and other days it's 65-70g of protien with 40-60 carbs.

I've lost 57 pounds in the last 2 months. I will have to see what weight class I will be wrestling in once all of this settles.

    Good luck to you!

  2. Thanks for the answer guys, back to giving this lecture!

If anyone is interested in sitting in on a college level comp sci/logic theory course I teach and is in the nyc area, message me!

Oh! Is this where we get to list our educational/professional credentials? Is that akin to whipping it out and measuring? How fun! I call front row view!!
What are you talking about? I mentioned earlier that I was working on lecture. An invitation to class is just that.

And while we are playing that game, no thank you, students earn an A in my class. Sitting in the front for a closer look at it won't help you through this one honey.

  3. Just a question to clarify. Why did you stop at half? Were you full at that point? Or at least satisfied? If yes, then I would say everything seems to be the way it should be in terms of restriction and how much you can eat. I think we can all eat if we eat, take a break then eat again. That's what we call grazing.

So, the thing to think about is whether or not to start back up again after a break. If that's what your plan is then everything seems just fine. Nothing to worry about except to make a note to yourself that you can eat more than your plan allow by spacing it out and taking breaks.

Biggest thing I have learned is not to eat until FULL. I eat until I am no longer hungry. That has made a dramatic difference.

Yes this is exactly how I felt. I naturally just stopped eating. I guess I was satisfied. So this is definitely my first experience with grazing and how bad it can be. Thank you!

It's all good. Like any forum, you may have some miscommunication at times.

Some days I have received a reality check or a loving slap to the head from my bariatric veterans.I am grateful for their advice. For the most part they mean well. ;)

Haha well I was ready to pass this as miscommunication but after reading what the great, high ranked, bariatric God @@Babbs has to say about this, and viewing that my original respondent liked such a immature response of this sort, I can whole heartedly say that there was no miscommunication.

This is the definition of shaming someone for being new, and stereotyping me as part of a group I did not know existed.

This is immaturity, and says a lot about someone's character.

At any given point there are more new members than old members. And at one point, the old members were new members. So, everone, quit passing judgment and putting yourself higher than others.

  5. Alright, before this gets any more hostile... I have come to this forum for advice many times before and there are some great people that offer great knowledge without passing judgement.

I'm this case, I came here worried about not feeling full when I realized I had ate a lot more than I had ate in over 2 months. This was while having dinner and preparing my lecture for class for tomorrow morning.

So it is my fault that I asked the question I already knew the answer for. What I should have asked is why I was able to even consume this meal without realizing I was more than full.

But In my opinion, the answer I received seemed of the shaming nature. This is my opinion, you do not have to agree. I am strongly against shaming of any form, especially on public forums. We are all here for advice and to learn. There are ways to give advice without sounding completely negative.

Yes I ate to much this time, but no that does not mean that I do not know the guidelines, or know about grazing, or not have a diet plan. I am not saying that I know it all, there was a reason for asking.

  6. I am a week short of 2 months out and feel like I could eat more now.

For example, I just had a 6" turkey breast flatbread with onions, green pepper and tomatoes with a tiny bit of honey mustard from subway.

I ate 3" took a break and ate the other 3" about a half hour later.

Did I eat to large of a meal? And did I eat the other half to soon?

    Best,

    Sanju

Well, first of all you ate bread. One of the #1 postop rules is no bread, Pasta, rice, or simple carbs during the losing phase. And secondly, yes, that's a boatload of food. I'm 2 1/2 years out and can't eat that much (and I STILL wouldn't eat that much bread even if I could). Weren't you given a diet plan with portion guidelines? Told about grazing? Your sleeve can only do so much. What and how frequently you eat are still your responsibility.

Don't mean to preach, but if you want the simple answers to your questions, they are "yes" and "yes".

    Okay,

    1. My doctor allows my 40-60 carbs a day because I train as a wrestler. Your guidelines are yours.

    2. A "boatload" of food for you, you cannot eat that much. But for me, I just did. I do not feel like I'm uncomfortably full, I feel normal. Don't apply your situation to everyone else when giving advice.

    3. Your style of "advice" is not advice, it is condescending. People come here for advice, not to be parented and looked down upon. We are all adults.

    4. I track everything. Calories in, calories out. Macros, and micros. My question was simple in nature. If you thought it was too much, too quick, all you needed to do was leave your last bit. You could hold off on the rest.

    Sooooo....

If you are so sure, why did you bother to ask?

I never stated that I am sure. I said that I was able to eat it, and I did not feel uncomfortable in anyway. I also stated in my second reply that I will take the proportions advice seriously, as for some reason I am able to eat more without feeling the way most of the community may have felt post wls.

Also, I am taking your advice on proportion seriously. This is first time I ate this much in this short of a period. My worries came from the fact I did not feel full more than actually eating what I ate...

  10. Hi guys!

I'm currently 7 weeks out and in the solid food phase and have been wondering what I should eat while in the city (nyc). I usually get a chipotle chicken salad bowl with black Beans, fajita vegetables, green salsa, Tomato salsa. It lasts me for lunch, a snack, and dinner.

Lately I've been becoming ocd about proportions. I hate that chipotle and other restaurants do not value making sure the proportions are right to match the website calories and macros

Is there anyway of ordering to insure for proper servings?

I would hate to be under shooting or over shooting everyday. Does anyone have any other recommendations? I cook but I do not have the time while in school.

  11. *To start off, I have no affiliation with the hospital or doctor mentioned below, I just want to help people in NY who are looking for a great place or surgeon.*

I had my gastric sleeve surgery done on April 11th of this year. My surgeon was Dr. Allison Barret over at Northwell Health Long Island Jewish in Forrest Hills, Queens.

She also lectures at Hoftra school of Medicine. She made my experience amazing. Following surgery, she answered every email I sent her about various questions that came up within the hour. I was very impressed with this, being surgeons are very busy people.

I can honestly say, out of all the surgeons I consulted with before surgery, Dr. Allison Barret seemed like the most caring for the patients. I am very happy with my choice, and would highly recommend her to anyone in New York. I have a follow up with her coming up, and I will definitely be taking a small token of appreciation for her. She has changed my life!

Has anyone else had surgery in lij in Forrest Hills? If so, was it with Dr. Allison Barret? I would love to link up with others who had the same exact path as me!

  13. Hi guys!

I am currently a couple days from being a month out. I have lost about 23 pounds. I have noticed that my weight has been lingering in the same area for the past 1-2 weeks. Most of my weight loss happened in the first one 10 days post op. I have heard of the 3rd week stall but how long does this thing last? I am on soft food at the moment.

  14. Hi guys!

I have started soft food phase a few days ago (14 days after surgery) and have observed that I have been having more head hunger lately.

I track my intake on myfitnesspal and was wondering how many calories a day others ate during this phase.

My meals include mostly ground turkey bean chili, 4oz tuna with a table spoon of low fat mayo, salmon...

I average in the 600-700 range but I feel like I could probably eat around 800 if really wanted to. Also, I have been able to get in liquids at a much quicker rate now (I could pretty much have a small gulp as compared to a sip every minute)

So, how many calories were you guys able to eat, and how did the weight loss look per week?

Note: I am 17 days out

  15. I am 8 days post op and yesterday at my doctor's visit to have my drain removed, I asked about the same issue. The pain that I had would hit the hardest at night when I would lay down. Wednesday night I actually slept in the recliner to reduce some of the pain. When asked, my surgeon said that the pain should subside with time but that it is cause because when the blood supply to the stomach is cut, the spleen sort of goes haywire a little bit and thats where the pain tends to be felt.

I will say that as soon as I had my drain removed, the pain went away. I assume it was touching or pushing on something in there and the pain did radiate in my left shoulder. Hope you're feeling better!

This is good to hear. My shoulder seemed to start hurting at the same time "the pulling" feeling started happening again after 2 days of having very little of it. Is the pulling feeling heavier some days than others for you? And open Question for anyone else that would like to chime in.
