  1. The first time they said I didn't complete the 3 month supervised diet (I did). They were missing documents, and I didn't have a second opinion from a physician other than the surgeon. My doctor's office indicated they sent all of the required information including the 2nd opinion. The second time it was ....they still didn't have a 2nd opinion from a doctor other than my surgeon. My doctor did a peer to peer review with their medical director and went over every document with them that was sent. It was approved the same day.
  2. I think it really depends on your general health as well. I handle workers comp claims and I can tell you people who have issues like diabetes, high blood pressure or are smokers tend to have a higher chance of having complications with surgery. I think you should talk with your surgeon/primary care doctor about YOUR risks since everyone is different. Not trying to scare you but if you are that worried, you should become well informed by your physicians.
  3. I used to have the pre-determination phone number but I have to tell you it's a waste of time. It is a call center who will refuse to tell you anything with out the doctor's office on the phone. What worked for me is calling the number on the back of the card and asking to speak with the nurse assigned to the case. They will be able to tell you what was received, if anything is missing. My request was denied twice. I believe they will make up bogus reasons to deny it... I think the people receiving the request only have one stamp and that's DENIED. So... be prepared to ask your doctor to do a peer to peer review with the insurance director to get approved. That's the only way I got through the system and it took over 2 months.

    Is this a usual thing...

I think my body went into shock the week after surgery because I couldn't get the scale to budge. So now... I'm only looking at about 17 lbs lost since the date of surgery (3 weeks out). I've seen other people losing more but I think a lot goes into it... I lost 10 lbs the week before surgery. I'm just trying to stick to the plan and not try to compare myself to other's weight loss. We all started out with different weights and doctors (and pre-op diets). Keep up the good work and just stay focused on hitting those goals
  5. I bought Isopure unflavored powder...which made my cream of wheat nearly inedible. I know powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury is out there...Before I continue to spend money on different powders...what's your favorite unflavored/flavorless powders to add to food?
  6. So I'm getting pretty pumped to start the pureed stage. I've been all over pinterest looking for ideas..(yes I found eggface). I was thinking of making refried Beans with maybe some pureed turkey meat with taco seasoning, cheese....But what about salsa? Have any of you tried a little bit spicy food and had issues? I wouldn't go full blown habenero but a little bit of heat would be nice.
  7. I wish that I knew how emotional I would be the week after surgery. I wish I knew that the "after" was really not that bad. (at least for me) I worried so much about nausea and inability to eat/drink before surgery...My doctors took good care of me and I had none of those issues. I wish I knew that the week after surgery it is entirely possible to not lose weight even though all you do is drink. It apparently can happen any time....and can last a while. (I started getting regrets) I wish I knew that unflavored Protein powder...is not flavorless. I still haven't found a way to add it to any food. Instead I stick to keeping protein supplements between meals and choosing foods that have protein in them. I track everything on myfitnesspal and I'm meeting my goals with out that expensive useless jar of nasty powder.

    CIGNA DENIED ME AGAIN!

Cigna also denied my surgery twice indicating they were missing documents that were sent. I called them daily for a month and a half asking what the status was...what was missing... Who do I need to talk to to get an answer. My surgeon did the peer to peer review and it was accepted immediately. Honestly I believe their intake staff automatically deny for bogus reasons. They try to see who will give up. It should be illegal what they are doing to people who pay their premium in good faith. Sent from my LGLS990 using the BariatricPal App
  11. I am 2 weeks out and didn't have any issues from day one. They gave me a nausea patch at surgery since I am sensitive to meds and a pill to take as needed. They also gave an antacid but I haven't really needed it either. Everyone is different but I haven't experienced anything like that. Fluids go down fine. I was actually surprised the day after surgery how much I could drink. I felt like maybe they didn't take enough but....they did. I bought multi Vitamin gummies desolvable vitamin d3 and a b12 spray. The only pills I take are Calcium citrate and Iron. I'm currently looking for an alternative to the calcium pills but the Vitamins really don't bother my stomach ..Good luck! Pureed question - spices/salsa?

Bought a food processor. Here's my first attempt... I only ate 5 bites and I was full. What we have here is ground turkey taco meat, fat free refried Beans with green chili. Sargento reduced fat 4 cheese Mexican, and a tablespoon or 2 of some fire roasted salsa. I have never had ground turkey but I have to say it was the best thing I've had in a while. Feeling good. Tons of leftovers. I have a feeling I will be freezing lots of food. Got over 90 grams of Protein today...which is the most I've gotten. I'm thinking pureed isn't so bad. Even though I didn't Water down the meat. I couldn't do that lol Sent from my LGLS990 using the BariatricPal App

    Pureed question - spices/salsa?

@@joejoe2461 My doc said to not use rice or Pasta during the puree stage.... might want to check with your nutritionist or dr about puree lasagna... It sounds AWESOME but I think if you puree pasta it also might turn to paste.

  17. I didn't use anything to relieve gas... If I felt that pain creeping up I'd take a deep breath and hold it. It would help push the gas to another part of my body and relieve the pain.

    Las Vegas Sleever

I am also from Las Vegas. Had surgery with Dr. Lyass on 3/4. I am supposed to see a support group monthly but they didn't give me any suggestions for groups that meet. Anyone find a group?

    Talk me off the ledge

I was a nervous wreck before surgery too. Take a deep breath and hope for the best. For me... I was like do I really need to do this..... is it worth risking my life??? What kept me going was my family. I thought about my kids. I want to see them grown up and having their kids. I do not want to give up on myself and I knew that I have better chances of living old to see them grown if I took a chance on this surgery, than if I didn't. It's worth it. You can do it! I know everyone's outcomes are different but I didn't have any complication. I was off pain meds after day 3 and have been progressing with the diet they gave me ever since. I am not hungry all the time even though I'm on a liquid diet. I never even threw up. I was able to drink surprising amounts of fluids the day after surgery. I even thought... is this right??? Good luck tomorrow and I hope you have a speedy recovery.

    Beyond Sad Request Deneied

I have to tell you... insurance companies play so many games to Not pay for the surgery. My surgery was denied twice. I had to be on them... every single day for over 2 months. After it was denied the second time and they had everything that was required to be eligible I asked them how do I appeal it. Your surgeon needs to do a peer to peer review with them. The medical director that oversees your insurance company speaks directly with the surgeon over the phone. They go document by document through your file and your surgeon will discuss why it is all justified. The denial letters I got were signed by that medical director but I can tell you he has a team of people with an auto print for denied. They will make up that they didn't get this that or the other. I finally got mine approved after almost giving up as well. It sucks that they do this. I think they try to weed out people who aren't determined to fight them. If they haven't already done it, do a peer to peer review. If they still deny it and you meet all of their requirements, it's time to call an attorney.

    Soup

So I have been on the full liquid diet a week and a half. For one of my meals I have strained cream Soup (potato, tomato, mushroom, french onion). Let me just say, that rotation is getting pretty tired already. Well, the other day I was at walmart and they have some Soups there that are a bit fancier than the canned ones - "sam's choice". I got the braised beef and mushroom soup... cooked it then poured it through the strainer.... OMG... best meal I have had since before surgery. It actually had some flavor! It wasn't too bad on the nutrients either. I had picked up a butternut squash soup but they put brown sugar in that one... so stay away. Anyway, It made my day so I had to share incase my fellow new sleevers are having some soup fatigue
  22. I am getting so frustrated. I have been on full liquid diet since day 4 after my surgery. I follow the diet, measure/track everything, get my 30 minutes of activity in a day... but I can't seems to lose weight for the last 4-5 days. I am getting between 400-600 calories a day. I don't understand how this is possible. The only thing I can think of is my body thinks it's starving and it's not letting anything out. How long have you all been stalled after surgery before those lbs started falling?
  23. I'm glad that it helps you to not feel alone After seeing several "stall" posts I think...the "3 week" stall can happen really at any time. I guess we just have to have faith in the process...and our bodies. Keep the will power going for following our doctor's orders. It's going to happen!

    Exercise?

I bought an elliptical that also doubles as a stationary bike. I do about 20 minutes of bike on the lowest setting and 10 minutes of elliptical which gets me about 100 calories burned. I also try to get out of the house and do some shopping and stuff to keep from sitting too much. I just started work again on Friday. I am going to ask my Dr. at my 3 week follow up about uping the resistance on my elliptical and about finding a support group since they expect us to follow up once a month with them...but didn't give me any resources for it. We shall see how it goes..

    Early weight loss stall

I'm in the same boat as you. I decided I'm going to stop weighing myself every day. I'm going to check next Sunday. Hopefully by then "something" will happen. I think people get a little sideways when people have their first stall. They forget we are very new to this. We watch so many videos and blogs of people who shed weight like it's nothing. When you are doing everything by the book and for it to stall so early (in my case I stalled during the FIRST week after surgery) it's hard not to get upset. Especially when emotionally you are still dealing with the changes. Hopefully this time next week we will be in a much better place
