  1. I had my surgery this past Monday and stayed in the hospital 2 nights. Staying hydrated and walking will make a huge difference while in the hospital. I can already take my dogs out and made a trip to the store with my hubby today. Was easily tired, but it's major surgery so that's expected. Two things: the gas after surgery is worse than the incisions.....walk as much as tolerable, this really helped and be prepared for discomfort at the old port site......ouch, it's tender! Kind of like doing a thousand sit ups. Have some extra pillows near. I also had some cold packs ready and a heating pad. I set up my bedroom with prescribed medications easily accessible, water/liquids close by, phone/charger close, and Comfy pj's. My husband had to work the last three days and I was able to manage being well prepared. Like James marusek said.....waking really really helped my recovery.....I walked daily until the day of surgery. Keep us updated and ask lots of questions. You got this

  2. Hi!!! So glad to talk to you! My surgeon told me that my band was way way overfilled for too long. My initial surgery report had that on the day of surgery I already had over 2cc in my band. He said that should have never happened. I had close to 8 cc at one point. I lost 90 pounds, not long after my weight loss, I started worrying because I was actually still hungry. which leads him to believe there may be erosion but there could be slippage too because of the reflux and vomiting now ️. I just want to be able to eat food again. I am scheduled for a upper endoscopy, Barium swallow, and gastric emptying test. I live off slider food because anything else gets stuck and you know what happens then. I was stuck on yogurt 2 weeks ago, it's pretty much been a roller coaster of things. I really hope you don't have erosion. I am pulling for you :) one surgery is more than enough.

  3. Usernamtaken and heatherg0907 we all have similar stories. I am waiting on my insurance decision for the revision. I can't eat real food most days and this band has been more of a hassle than help. My last surgeon stopped using the band. My last appointment he called in nurses to see what the needle looked like for a fill. My new surgeon is now concerned with a slip and erosion. I am grateful for all the support in this forum

  4. Wow. Its so interesting reading all your stories from USA. In Australia your Doctor decides whether you need a procedure...and the Insurers cannot refuse ANYONE.

By law the private health insurers must cover everyone without prejudice. And on top of that we have the free public healthcare service "Medicare" that covers all emergency medicine, hospital etc.

The idea of an insurance company deciding what medical care i need is just shocking and would make me so angry!

I have a similar story to you Stacylynn. GB in 2009...list a lot of weight initially and has gradually crept back on. Today i am the same weight as pre GB all those years ago

I met with my surgeon yesterday and he has schefuled me to remove band and do a mini gastric bypass in 4 weeks.

I hate my band. Had so much trouble but i am terrified about the MGB.

I'm worried about dumping and never being able to eat a piece of French cheese ever again.

I would love sone feedback on what bypass patients can actually eat, and do you feel hungry?

Is it true you just dont feel like eating?

The worst thing about the band is hunger that is always there due to the empty stomach just waiting for food.

Any feedback on whst you can eat and how you go when dining out would be much appreciated ladies! ☺

Insurance is ridiculous in the United States. It is a huge money issue here and everything we do medically revolves around the insurance companies. Some companies are easier to deal with than others and have guidelines and policies that are less stringent than others. It's crazy and sad that our health and access to certain care is dictated by these companies. And yes.....I am ALWAYS hungry with the band.....I want this thing out. I feel no different now than I did before my band.

  5. Thank you all so so much for all the information and support!!!! I have been really upset and nervous that I was having the issues and no one else was ......the study you jnt mentioned....shame on these band manufacturers for making people go through this! 80% is beyond ridiculous and just plain scary. I agree with UsernameTaken, the scary part is the permanency of the bypass but I am sick and tired of this weight. Hey....we got this right?!?

  6. The surgeon I am seeing told me the same thing!!! He said that too many of his patients and the patients in the practice are having too many issues with the band. I went for a fill to my first surgeon (who moved out of state) last year and the nursing staff had to go find the needle for the fill because there were none on hand. They also called other medical staff in the room to see what a lap band fill looked like because no one has them anymore. I panicked immediately because what do medical professionals know about the band that we don't? I am so over this lap band lol

  7. I had my lap band surgery in 2010. Over the last two years I have had nothing but issue after issue with my band. Horrible reflux, stomach pain, vomiting etc. solid is now a nightmare. I would love to get this band out of me, but would definitely want a revision to gastric bypass. Has anyone had issues and/or success with highmark bcbs in PA? I see my new surgeon next week and just wanted to know what to kinda expect, thank you all so much!

  8. Wow!!!! We are very similar! I am having the same issue vomiting when I eat. There are times when I am places with friends, co-workers that I don't want to eat because I know what will happen. I have been taking such high doses of protonix for reflux that my insurance won't cover my additional doses anymore . Do you mind me asking what kind of insurance you have? I live in Pa and have highmark bcbs. What great advice about asking what kind of doctor reviewed the case, I would never have thought of it. Thank you!!!

  9. Hello! I am new to this forum and I am looking for some help/insight. I was banded in 2010 and lost over 90 pounds my first 15 months. Felt great and then I started having the same issues and problems that many people have, terrible reflux, vomiting, difficulty with solid food. Reflux so bad I can't lay down or eat. I am also having pain in my port site. Slider foods are the only thing I can eat and not get sick or get stuck. I get stuck on eggs!!! I am so over this lap band and deeply regret my choice. Several fills/Unfills/adjustments and I am still not where I need to be. My weight is creeping up close to surgery date weight and I am miserable most days. Anyone have the same issues? I have an appointment with a new surgeon next week (the surgeon that did my surgery is no longer in state) and I don't know what he will say. I am hoping and praying I can get a revision because I am miserable and uncomfortable daily. Any tips? Insurance issues? I am so appreciative of any support and insight.
