  1. I am three two months and a half out, I have lost 50 pounds and was never warned against rice, bread or Pasta... Well I was told to reduce it and eat brown rice and Pasta, and whole grain bread (I hate white bread anyway).

Twice a month I have pasta with salmon, or some rice with vegetables, even sushis (not a lot though). I have the occasional grilled slice of whole grain bread with hummus or cheese (French, Dutch and Belgian cheeses are quite good).

It's weird all the differences I see between my country and the USA. I was never asked to drink Protein shakes, or to stop coffee and tea, and still my weight loss is rather good, around 3 to 4 pounds a week for a month and a half, and I have not yet experienced a stall.

I always have to laugh when I see newbies say "I eat XX and I'm still losing weight!"

You can eat Twinkies and wash them down with milkshakes the first 6 months to a year and still lose weight.....

I don't even know what Twinkies are and I have never had milkshake in my whole life. I just said my surgeon and my dietitian never told me anything wrong about brown pastas/rice and whole grain bread, I sure hope they know what they are doing since they studied around 9years to be there.

My mother also had a sleeve and still eat these things while maintaining 22 BMI, which is far from being bad.

And yes indeed I am a "newbie", I didn't come here for people to laugh at me or being condenscending. Have a nice day.

  3. Bariatric surgery is no easy way out. Because getting 80% of your stomach removed is not an easy thing for your body or your mind. You might even feel regret the first few weeks.

I am two months out and just one year older than you, I also had been struggling with my weight for a long time. I already have lost around 46pounds, I went back to sport and it actually felt great instead of just feeling like a damn punishment. It's only been two months and I can see many differences.

Good luck in your journey, your body is yours and if you feel that the surgery is your only help, don't let people who have no idea what's it like to be fat and obese to tell you otherwise.

  4. Well, I feel the same way I must say! Ever since my surgeon told me I could go back to biking and swimming, I have been feeling pretty good which is kinda weird after the first "meh" month where I was tired all the time.

I don't think there is anything wrong, if you don't feel pain or perpetual disconfort then it should mean everything is fine! Enjoy feeling good is all I can say :)

  5. My heavy weight created sleep apneas problem, I sleep alone but my siblings and my parents could hear me in the whole house. When I started the sleeve process, I had a sleep test and they found out about it. Each time I would sleep without the CPAP, my family told me "You didn't use your machine, did you?" and now when I take a nap without it during weekends or so, no one hears me, so I am kinda glad, apparently I snore way less than before.

But the problem is that I got used to the machine but after the only night I spent without my CPAP, I felt tired like never before. I think I am going to wait for a few pounds to drop out before I take a new sleep test.

  6. I am young as well, just one year older than you. I know it just straight up sucks at first: pain, liquid food that tastes like sh!t, etc.

I had regrets as well, but now I am already half through my weight goal in only 7 weeks.

Also you should follow the golden rule of the Internet: don't believe everything that is written on the internet. I got myself all worked up one week before surgery due to some stupid articles, but a rapid look at their sources (if they had any) quickly proved it was all based on ... nothing.

Just keep in mind that being obese is not healthy at all, and might as well have ruined your youth. I mean, I am 23 years old and was already having sleep apneas and backpain, things that should not happen at such a young age... Plus ablation of the stomach has been used in various situations to treat cancer for example. If you are afraid of growing older faster, drink more green tea and have a tiny piece of 70% black chocolate from time to time :P But I don't think it will happen since your article is nothing but a pile of dung.

Let yourself the time to heal and feel better, go to a support group and embrace the change. Enjoy your loss weight because it sure made me a lot happier :) Cheers!

  7. My surgeon told me to wait 3 months if I wanted to try again, he told me that a glass of wine wouldn't hurt but that I should not make an habit out of it.

On the other hand, my mother also had a sleeve and she has a glass or two per week, in summer she sometimes has a beer (low carbonated flemish style beer).

I personally plan on waiting till the end of June, some friends from abroad are coming to visit and I'll surely have a glass of sangria or a sip of beer... But I actually don't miss so far, which is rather impressive since I used to drink a lot every weekend!

  8. My mom had a lap band and revised it to a sleeve, it's been three years now. She enjoys the occasional glass of wine of beer (really slowly though) or some pizza but hasn't gain a pound from what I can tell.

I guess it's fine as long as you do it in a moderate manner. I don't think WLS means you have to stay away from everything...

Be your own judge I guess.

  9. Biking is great! I was biking even when I was at my highest weight. Well it's a national sport in Belgium and we have nice enough infrastructure (and lovely countryside roads).

I have a 350$ mountain bike equiped with lamps and all, so I go on the road with it as well, even if I prefer "dirt paths" (not sure if this is a correct English colocation, but hope it'll do). It's one of my favorite sport ever, it's really pleasant (so much more than running) and it gets you actually far if you want to :)

I bike 12 to 15 miles three times a week, hope I'll be able to do more soon!

  10. Hi, I have had the surgery and I am 23 as well, I already had seen so many obese persons (including me) with their neverending struggle to diet/lose weight, etc without any sucess, and I was so fed up with my weight and all the other problems.

There is nothing to be scared about, this surgery is not that painful (well it is during a week, but yeah 80% of one your organ was removed. Also you won't be missing class too much, I have been given a one month "holiday" after the surgery, but after two weeks I was feeling well already.

Having the sleeve will change your feelings about food, I personally no longer crave fat food. You have to eat slowly and actually start to enjoy what you are eating rather than shovelling industrial quantities of food down your throat without asking questions. So yeah, I was scared too because I devoured so many things all the time, but now that I had this surgery, it seems that this past behaviour is relatively absurd. It's not a diet, it changes too many things (and permanently for the most).

I know there are differences between what's following the surgery from my country to the US (I keep reading about Protein shakes and weird stuff like that, and I don't understand a thing about these approvals/insurances things), but the results are astouding and I feel way better even though it was quite recent (end of February).

    Cheers!
