  1. I had my surgery July 5. I thought some of the same things...like why don't have feel restriction after 1to 2 oz ? Or why am I starving. It's such a head game even with this wonderful tool. My advice is to keep working your program per doctor and the weight will come off. I'm losing slower than most but my BMI was lower. I am expected it. One thing I am focusing on is sticking with my new food choices and trying to make all of this a habit before my weight loss stops. To quote Dory" Just keep swimming"

  2. I haven't been here in so long I don't know where to start, but I'm a GA sleever so I guess here is as good as anywhere!

Just checking out Bariatric Pal after a long time away. I was sleeved in Dec 2012 in MX with Dr. Alvarez. Reached my goal in 18 months. Now sitting at around 35lbs under that goal.

Maintaining my loss, feeling good except I really need to be more diligent on my Vitamins and Iron. Feeling very small... and still have lots of good restriction. WLS was the very best thing I could ever do for myself. So happy I did it.

Excellent!!! What do you contribute your success to? I read many posts from people struggling with weight gain and not feeling the restriction after some time. I am four months out and worried about putting the weight back on. Any advice for long term success?

  3. I'm 3 weeks post op. I have lost 20 pounds but definitely seem to have hit the 3 week plateau. And I'm worried because I'm feeling hungrier and like I need more food. Last night I ate almost 1/3 of a porkchop. I ate it slowly and in small bites. But I feel like I shouldn't be able to eat that much? Should I have stopped sooner?

Also, my surgeon wanted me to stop my metformin but my endocrinologist wants me to take it even though my blood sugars are no longer an issue. I took metformin years before I had blood sugar issues. How didmost of you handle your metformin? My surgeon said we can add it back later because it can provide a boost to the surgery, but I guess I feel like why wait for the boost? Lol

One thing I have noticed, everyone gets personalized instructions from their surgeon and NUT....and they are all different

I stopped Metformin three days before and was told not to take it again. My blood sugar shot through the roof immediately after surgery but then stabilized before my release. It's been normal since. So happy to have one less pill to take!!

  4. July 22,2016 was my surgery. Have a set though. The next day the 23rd. In the a.m. i asked for help to go to the rest room. The nurse came in help me up. Not putting a gate belt on me. Tried to help me to the restroom. I got dizzy the next thing I remember is waking up on the floor. Well got me on my bed. With the help of about 15 nurses. Later that day i noticed my foot was hurting. Come to find out it is broken.

On the following my surgery they had to take me back in. I had eternal bleeding. They had to give me 3pints of blood.

I have lost close to 25lbs.

I really cant do any exercise so that is really depressing.

Good work everyone!!!! It is a hard struggle but we can do it.

Oh my! That's terrible! How is your foot?

  5. If you have been cutting for a while already you aren't going to see the big drop that people see on Keto if they are coming from a high carb diet. Most of their initial loss is liver shrinking, and fluids. You also are already close to your bottom weight so you aren't going to drop a ton fast.

What is your inch loss like? I am in a lot of Keto groups on Facebook and one thing I notice is a lot of people are losing inches and not pounds. I think people on keto diets maintain more muscle than other diets but that is just my theory and a few things I have read support it.

How are you calculating your macros for keto? I use this calculator http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/

As a WLS patient you have a huge advantage over most people doing keto. You can easily control calories and do keto. Most people on keto eventually go nuts on calories because most don't track them, they just track fat etc. Not that you have to go crazy with calorie counting with Keto, but it matters.

Do you log your food? What does your typical day look like for you?

Did you do keto right after your surgery? Or is this something you adopted after a few months?

  6. Let's put this into perspective. The frozen pops are 15 calories, the sugar free aspect is what we are using. The liquid is counting more towards your 64oz. It's not a food. Two after you've gotten in a meal of Protein will be a nice snack. Living on pops is just silly.

Even if you had 8 of them it takes time and you have other things you need to get down. Just eat them.

I was just sitting here w design if pops were considered liquid or food! Thanks for the comment above

Am I doing my pouch harm if I have one after eating? Since it's sort of a liquid, does it fall into the category of drinking after eating? I am supposed to wait 30 min after food.

  7. @@Bee healthy

Are you only using the app or do you use the website also? I am assuming you have premium since you are able to set goals.

I set all my targets and everything using the website.

Start by setting your goal weight and your calorie target. The app is going to tell you that your calorie target is too low, ignore that. Then set your other goals.

    My goals are

    Protein 100g a day minimum.

    Carbs 10-12%

    Fat 40-45%

    Yes premium Member

Thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for.

  8. I think all insurance requirements are different and you have to consider the doctors schedule too. My insurance required 6 mths of nutritional counsel. I started Dec 2016 and had my surgery July 6. During that time, I did all the tests, evals etc. it went very fast and I am so glad I had the nutritional counsel. It has helped!

Good luck to you!!! Best decision I ever made

  9. I am tracking in the lose it app and want to set goals for Protein, Fat, Carbs. Yesterday I had my 6 week meeting with my NUT. She gave me protein goals and said lower fat and slightly higher carbs. My calories should now increase to 900-1000 and my protein between 70-80

Is anyone else tracking fats and carbs? I am not sure what to put as a goal for fat/carbs in the app. I was approved for all foods but in my previous life I was a low carb girl. I am finding the thought of increasing carb levels ( good carbs) scary. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  10. Hi folks!

This is my first post ever. I've been researching VGS on and off for about a year and I think I may be ready to bite the bullet. My insurance will not cover the procedure since my BMI is slightly below 40 and with what I have you need two co morbid conditions as well so I'll be self paying.

I have been a decade long yo-yo dieter. I gain and lose the same 35 to 75 lbs every year. I lose fast, then I regain even faster. I have fairly severe anxiety and the extra weight makes it so much worse. After much research I feel like this is a tool that could finally move me forward.

Now that I'm getting more serious about it I've been going from general information to reading people's actual experiences. It seems like every single story I read and every video I see is someone relaying an AWFUL and miserable recovery that lasted months on end. Is this just how it is? I don't know if I'm uninformed or if people are more likely to share a more extreme story.

I had a DCR 3 years ago and a full laparoscopic hysterectomy about 2 years ago and I understand that this will be my biggest surgery ever.

It's kind of scaring me though! I'm not expecting a pleasant time and I can handle post surgical pain but some of these stories make it sound like a year long horror show. Just looking for input. Thanks!

Hi! I had my surgery on July 5. It was a breeze! Previously I had gallbladder removal, partial hysterectomy and knee surgery. This sleeve was nothing like that. I was up walking around and feeling great right after surgery. Everyone's experience is different but it helps to be positive and prepared! Take so me GasX strips with you and start walking asap. Gas was the most pain I felt. Best of luck to you, I think you will do great

  11. I would like feed back from those who are past the 4 week post-op phase to weigh in on how you think I'm doing. My surgery was July 6, 2016. I lost 7 lbs during the two week pre-op phase and 19 lbs in the past 4 weeks post-op. Total since June 25...26 lbs.

Am I doing okay? Should it be more? I feel great except my belly button incision...still a small open wound, but not infected. Energy low, but manageable. I feel like it should be more weight loss, but perhaps I'm doing good.

    Thanks.

My stats are similar to yours. My surgery was July 5. Glad to know

  12. Hi guys! I'm just checking in. I had surgery on 7/7 and am feeling the best I have felt in the last couple of years. The weight is coming off, I'm getting nice bursts of energy and my skin is glowing.

I'm on soft foods and am supposed to try "regular" foods this week. Not sure what I'll end up trying for regular first. I've been eating mostly dairy, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, but have tried all kinds of fish, chicken breast, veal, cheeseburger and no problems so far. I just feel full right around the 2 oz in supposed to eat on my plan. I was off shakes for a few days while traveling but am now going back on as its really hard to get enough Protein from food alone in such small amounts.

Best wishes to all the other July sleevers!

Wow you are doing great! I just started regular foods. I have not had a problem with anything. My weight stalled a little but it's coming off now. What is your average calorie/protein/ carbs each Day?

  13. Hello all, I was sleeved on 7-11-16. I'm 3 weeks, 3 days out. Everything is a challenge for me. I struggle to get in 20 grams of Protein a day and about 8 ounces of Water. SF Popsicles are the only thing that feels good to eat. I feel ok the pain is gone! Still have occasional gas pain but its not do bad. I just wish I can get my protien and liquids down. Anyone have any suggestions??

I am sorry you are having problems and I hope it gets better soon. Are you still drinking Protein Shakes? I have one every morning but add 1/2 cup coffee and some Torani Syrup. It's great and Premier Protein has 30 grams of protein. The new Atkins protein water is similar in taste to a Popsicle, maybe that would go down easy. Another thing I do is add unflavored protein to drinks like crystal lite lemonade or SF orange crush drink mix. I hope you feel better soon!
