  2. I went for my meeting with my surgeon yesterday and got my surgery date of Aug. 2. I went in with the mindset of getting RNY, but after an hour of speaking with the surgeon about pros and cons of each surgery, I was going with the VSG. My reasoning for originally deciding on RNY was that sweets and sugary foods are a major issue for me and I loved that deterrent that comes with having the bypass. The surgeon made a valid point in that I can't be certain that sugar and high carb foods will cause me distress and act as that deterrent. After thinking about all that we talked about, the only thing that is really nagging at me is the fact that I asked him what size bougie he used and would I have any choice/say in the matter. He told me that he uses a 40f and that was that. I personally, would feel more comfortable with a 36 or even 38 as I would like the safest option with the greatest restriction. I have not signed my final paperwork as of yet, and am feeling that I only plan on doing this once, so if I can't get anything smaller than the 40f, I will go with the bypass. Could anyone that has some experience under their belt give me a little guidance in what my best option would be under the circumstances?

  3. I have custody of my 9 yr. old grandson since he was 3 mos. old. I told him that my body was processing food into too much fat and not enough energy and that the doctor was going to do a surgery that will help me get healthy again so we can go hiking and biking again and that it will help me not have to take so many medicines because I will be healthier. I also told him that I was going to have to eat healthier and asked him if he minded very much if I didn't buy so many junky Snacks and stuck to the healthier choices. He was all for it!! He loves fruits and veggies anyway so that wasn't too hard for him. lol I told him I was going to be tired right after surgery and sore, but not for very long. He was great, saying he would help Papa take care of me and he is so excited to be able to do things together again. Be honest, but age appropriate and include them in your journey. You'll be pleasantly surprised, I think. I know I was. Good luck with "the talk" lol. Let us know how it goes.

  4. I am almost done with all my requirements and will hopefully have a surgery date in June or early July. I had my mind set on the sleeve this entire time, but in reading some of the posts I am second guessing myself. Maybe go with bypass??? I am a terrible grazer and sweet addict once I get going. From what I have read, the bypass may be more of a reinforcement to help me get over these behaviors. I just am leary of rerouting my intestines if it's not necessary. Smh....anybody have any advice either way to help me make this decision? Thanks guys!!

  6. Going through Dartmouth Hitchcock, having surgery at the Elliot in Manchester. I just attended my first support group meeting. Surgery day can't come soon enough lol

Are the support groups open? And for post-op folks? I would love to get information, thoughts and .....well, support from others locally who have had this done and going to.
I'm in the process of going through my approval steps at cmc in Manchester. They have great open support groups monthly for both pre and post op.

  7. Just went to my info seminar and submitted initial paperwork. They said they would call beginning of next week to schedule first appts. I'm so excited...nervous, but excited. lol Can you tell me what the initial intake appt. was like? Do they weigh with all your clothes on? measure you? how long is appt? I'm at a BMI of 35 with clothes and my primary told me to grab a sandwich and large Water before my appt. if it was in a johnny. lol

  8. I have been doing myfitnesspal for the past year. This is my second time in the past three years trying this program. My doctors office is aware of my attempts, and passed this on in a letter to my surgeons office along with my medical records. My insurance is Anthem Blue Cross and requires 6 mos. supervised weight loss documented by physician. Will my log from myfitnesspal be sufficient for insurance coverage? Just wondering if anyone else had similar programs cover this pre-requisite for ins.
