Quinoa safe during mushy phase?
daniotra replied to Dody143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My team says 15 minutes without drinking before eating is OK. I don't see why quinoa would be a problem. Just Make sure you are getting your Protein on first Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
There simply isn't room for them yet. You'll be able to start adding in (cooked or soft) veggies over the next couple of weeks. Lack of fiber is just going to make you constipated, which can be dealt with. Lack of Protein will cause major problems for you and nothing but protein will fix it. In short, you're right to be concerned, but it's only for a few more weeks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am so scared [emoji20][emoji20][emoji20][emoji20][emoji20]
daniotra replied to bellabeans's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Write down your questions and concerns, and talk them over with your doctor. Also, make a list of the reasons you are wanting to do this surgery. Even if you're still scared (goodness knows I was!), you want to feel comfortable with your choice. I honestly didn't fully relax until I woke up after surgery. Once I was awake, I knew I could handle this! I find anaesthesia very scary. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I'm in my 6 month diet phase and scared to eat
daniotra replied to WitchySar's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
You can do this! Where are you calorie-wise for the day? While you want to get out of the habit of snacking, if you're truly hungry, and not just bored, have a snack. Some cheese, yogurt, or a tablespoon of Peanut Butter powder may do the trick. My program gave us a 1200 calorie diet and I tried to stay within 50 calories either way on it. (We were allowed significantly more carbs than you.) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My kids start school exactly one week post op, will I be able to care for them?
daniotra replied to cameron1209's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OKCPirate is so right. My kids are grumpy at me right now because I won't pick them up and I'm somewhat cranky. But: I can put my butt on the tiny kiddy chair to help my five year old with his homework. I'm no longer the biggest parent in his class. I am more able to get down and play with my kids. I'm starting to get more energy. I'm only three weeks post-op, but down 55lbs overall. Life is good and getting better all the time! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Isn't the ricotta bake too acidic for our tummies?
daniotra replied to LA_lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not greasy. I used low fat ricotta and mozzarella. You'll only eat a couple ounces of it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My kids start school exactly one week post op, will I be able to care for them?
daniotra replied to cameron1209's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My son started kindergarten two days after I had sleeve surgery. My biggest issue was not being able to lift the kids in and out of the car seats. You should be able to do what you need to do. But give yourself extra time. Try laying out the clothes ahead of time. And don't be afraid to nap if you need it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
3 weeks post op- mild leg cramping, dry mouth
daniotra replied to sailaway's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The tiredness can be from the extreme low calorie diet you are on. That should improve when you start getting more calories. The rest of your symptoms sound like dehydration. Call your doctor's office in the morning and see if they want you to go in for fluids. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Major depression and getting approved
daniotra replied to Frenchie1977's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have depression and was approved. The thing they are looking for is that it is currently under control and you are being treated. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My doc said to wait two weeks. It was somewhat uncomfortable at that point, but still felt good. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It gets a -lot- better after about two weeks. I was off pain meds in 9 days. By two weeks out, I could move without significant discomfort and lay on my side. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

When are we aloud to have salads ?
daniotra replied to sonardms's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
4-8 weeks, depending on your program. Some people can't tolerate them until several months out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I would recommend ice packs. They helped a ton. I wouldn't use any cream or gel on your incisions until they are well healed. It's not worth the infection risk. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I was sleeved 2.5 weeks ago. I do have hunger. It's usually when I haven't eaten in 6+ hours. It goes away with a few bites of food or drinking fluids. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Soft food stage problem
daniotra replied to triplethreat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's really going to depend on your own tolerances. I'm just over two weeks out. It didn't cause any issues for me (except for feeling very heavy in my stomach). I'm having trouble getting over 400 calories, so a little extra fat is a good thing right now! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
How to quit sugar ?!?!?!?
daniotra replied to Armygalbonnie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fill your fridge with easy to eat fruit, veg, lean meat and low fat cheese. Make the healthy foods as easy to grab and eat as a Twinkie. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Soft food stage problem
daniotra replied to triplethreat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Low fat ricotta and low fat cottage cheese are on my food lists. eggs are ok in a recipe (I'm not supposed to do them straight until 8 weeks). I used low fat mozzarella as well. I can barely eat two ounces of this. My macro calculations came out to 61 calories, 3.4 grams fat, 2.5 carbs, and 6.2 grams Protein for two ounces. You could cut the fat by eliminating or reducing the Parmesan. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Peanut Butter has too much fat to use as a primary Protein source. Have you looked at one of the defatted peanut powders? (PB2, pbFit)? You could add some of the powder to a recipe. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Some foods just sit like a rock. I can eat 2.5 ounces of tuna and be happy. I feel overstuffed and uncomfortable on 2oz of ricotta bake. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Instant Pot! Good recipes and ideas?
daniotra replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I love my Instant Pot. The meat is a lot juicier than the crock pot. I think it'll be perfect once I can start eating more solids. It's definitely not "instant", but it's hands off, which I appreciate. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
