Things that I'll be taking to hospital
daniotra replied to D'Sleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ha ha yes hospital pads do feel like diapers. Thanks for that heads up as well. I hope I don't sound to graphic but I am irregular and I haven't had a menstrual since June so I know if I don't show up with any pads that will be a disaster lol Sent from my N9520 using the BariatricPal App I wasn't due for another week, and she showed up shortly after I got up to my room after surgery. I've been irregular all my life, but I could always count on my period starting if I had something important going on (first day of school, etc). I loved the pill because I was in control for once! I'm thinking of making salmon tomorrow. Put a fillet in a foil packet, top with salt, pepper, and lemon slices. Some garlic is nice too. Then seal the packet and pop it in the oven or on the grill for about 20 minutes. It comes out moist and flavorful. You are basically steaming it in the packet, so it fits the plan (no hard edges). Here you go. Since I started this stage yesterday I've had some lunch meat and chicken thighs. I had a bite of broccoli yesterday too, but I was too full today. I made this yesterday: http://www.pressurecookingtoday.com/pressure-cooker-thai-chicken-thighs/ It was very tender and moist. Very easy on my tummy. I did pan-roasted chicken thighs tonight. It wasn't as tender and moist as the other dish, so I wasn't able to eat as much (1.25-1.5 oz, vs 2 oz yesterday.) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I just thought of one other thing. For ladies that still menstruate, you may want to bring some of your own pads, whether you expect Aunt Flo or not. Aunt Flo likes to come when you are under stress, and hospital pads feel like diapers. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I want a sleeve revision will Kaiser cover it if my initial surgery was in Mexico?
daniotra replied to SoCalGal77's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I agree with the person that said to ask for a referral to have your anatomy looked at. If there is something wrong, that can likely be fixed. I'm Kaiser NorCal, and they generally do not do revisions due to lack of weight loss or regain. Get checked out, but don't count on it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Newbie with another Q, long term low calorie diet effects?
daniotra replied to ella37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your body becomes very, very efficient at using whatever calories you give it. This is incredible, if you were car or in a famine situation. It can be frustrating for those of us that finally reach goal weight and want to try and eat "normally". The article I linked below specifically is talking about the crash diet used by Biggest Loser contestants, and how it impacted their metabolism. Many WLS patients have similar impacts on their metabolism. That is one of the reasons you'll see people say that eating more and losing a bit slower is a good thing. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/05/02/health/biggest-loser-weight-loss.html?_r=0 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Newbie with another Q, long term low calorie diet effects?
daniotra replied to ella37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your metabolism changes due to the low calorie diet. This makes it hard to go back to a "normal" calorie intake when you're done losing weight. Talk to some of the veterans on here. Making sure you are getting your exercise in and trying to keep your calorie intake at a reasonable level while losing is important. If you starve yourself while losing, your metabolism gets even more efficient and you will never be able to eat reasonably without gaining. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Instant Pot! Good recipes and ideas?
daniotra replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I made this tonight as my first real dinner since surgery. It was wonderful, tender, moist, and easy on my new tummy. Plus my husband really liked it. Thank you for the suggestion! Here is a direct link for anyone interested. http://www.pressurecookingtoday.com/pressure-cooker-thai-chicken-thighs/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I'm 4 weeks out and can start having oatmeal today. 1/4 cup or 2oz of most foods is a reasonable serving. You may or may not be able to finish it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

At what point did you buy new clothes
daniotra replied to IveGotThePower's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went to the thrift store and got some pants when the crotch started sagging and rubbing on my thighs. $8 for two pairs of capris and a pair of jeans. Woo-hoo! I can deal with too-large shirts for a while longer. I was 55lbs down at that point. I went from a snug 26 to a comfy 22. I thought about trying to make these pants last long enough to go down another size, but decided it wasn't worth it. I would recommend getting a couple pair of pants, because proper fit means comfort. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Yes. A lot of times burping means you took too big a bite or you are getting full. I had sleeve surgery, and I burp a -lot- now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Post op regrets topics - not popular
daniotra replied to GinaCampbell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Gina, your story shows just how important pre-op education is. Folks need to have a full understanding of the issues that they may run into. This surgery isn't right for everyone. You noted in another thread that you and your friends were not given a complete picture of the risks. That definitely wasn't fair to you. It took me years to decide that the likely benefits outweighed the likely risks. Having surgery was the right choice for me. I benefited from hearing other's stories of success, failure, and complication. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Nervous -- How about some stories on how much better you feel?
daniotra replied to sc101071's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm a month post-op. I've lost 58lbs in the last six months. I'm still somewhat tired from surgery and lack of calories, but I have more energy, flexibility and confidence. My back and shoulders hurt less, and the plantar fasciitis has cleared up in my left foot. I'm down two sizes. I can do more now. Playtime with my husband is a lot more fun. This process has been so worth it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Different Kaiser areas have different requirements. Where are you? (NorCal, SoCal, another state?) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Protein shakes from POwder- why must be consumed within 10 minutes?
daniotra replied to ironpoorer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I never noticed that either. I'll make a guess that it has to do with the product thickening. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Some foods have strange tastes and smells
daniotra replied to HappilyEverAfter44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's normal. It does get better. I couldn't eat yogurt or anything sweet for two weeks because it all tasted absolutely disgusting. It's better now. I also had a super nose immediately after surgery. I could smell -everything-, and it grossed me out. It's not as bad now (a month out), but my sense of smell is still much stronger than it was before. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
It's common. Reach out to your doctor and ask for an acid reducer med. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Things that I'll be taking to hospital
daniotra replied to D'Sleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did wish I had brought a pillow for my tummy on the trip home. I borrowed an extra one in the hospital, but I had to deal without on the ride home. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Things that I'll be taking to hospital
daniotra replied to D'Sleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The only things I used in the hospital were my ID/Medical Card, phone, a pair of PJs, deodorant and a hairbrush. I wore the PJs home. The hospital provided a toothbrush and Chapstick, I did have my own though. I never used a heating pad. I did use ice packs over my biggest incision. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Did anyone NOT have a miserable recovery?
daniotra replied to ella37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm only a month out. I've been able to get most of my Water and Protein in after the first couple of days. The pain wasn't too bad, though I did hurt myself about a week in when I pulled the area around my stitch. The worst thing was a terrible taste in my mouth and some taste changes. I've been somewhat tired, but overall have been doing quite well. No complications at all. Definitely looking forward to moving on to soft foods on Tuesday! Some people do have complications, but the majority do not. You have to weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks and decide if it's worth it for you. Birth Control and Surgery
daniotra replied to jtellechea001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a mirena IUD. I did not have to remove it. It's hormonal action is localized rather than systemic, so it doesn't have the same issues with causing blood clots as the pill. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Birth Control and Surgery

No, you can keep it in. In fact, I had one put in so I could have surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
What can happen if I cheated on post op diet?
daniotra replied to Little Bee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The meat, especially if it wasn't chewed extremely well, can cause a blockage. The taco is even more worrisome because of the sharp edges from the shell. The taco could also potentially cause blockages. Particles can also get caught in your suture/staple lines and cause infection. Your friend is wrong. Just because you can eat doesn't mean your survey was done wrong. You don't necessarily have a lot of feeling in your stomach so close to surgery. You can cause a lot of damage overeating so early out because you don't always feel when you're full. Take a step back, go back to your prescribed eating plan, and think about why you went off plan. Make a plan for when you get tempted again. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
What to tell your kids
daniotra replied to chicagorocks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a five year old and a two year old. The week before I started telling my son that I was going to have to stay overnight at the hospital and that my tummy would be sore when I came home. And oh, btw, NANA is coming to stay with you while I'm there! My son has had a couple surgeries and hospitalizations, so I also reminded him that the doctors were going to help make me feel better and be healthier, just like they had with him. And that I would have some cool scars on my tummy like he has. The kids don't know why I had surgery. They were happy to have the time with their Nana and had to be gently reminded to be careful of my tummy and that I could not pick them up. It was a good lesson in independence for me and the kids while I was healing. My doc said no lifting over 20 lbs for 4 weeks. I started some lifting after about three. I just got cleared to lift today. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
