You don't get any positives from a kick in the balls. With the baby you get the baby out of your body, huge doses of happy hormones to make you forget how much you just went through, and a little person to brag about. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Alcohol and drugs after surgery
daniotra replied to jmc534's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would ask your surgeon about the marijuana usage. I know cigarettes are recommended to stop permanently because they can cause stomach ulcers. I don't know if marijuana has the same effect. My program would do a random screening ahead of surgery to ensure you were clean prior to surgery due to potential issues with healing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Complex carbs are starches (grain-based foods, potatoes, etc). Simple carbs are sugars, such as those found in fruit, refined sugar, honey, milk (Lactose!), etc. A "good carb" is going to be packaged along with other nutrients (Vitamins and Fiber in fruit, Protein in milk), while "bad carbs" are nearly straight starch or sugar. The comments your mom made sound like something my "second mom" would say. She's a sweet, wonderful woman, and normal quite tactful, but she can be rather "blunt" when it comes to weight comments. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Doctor say can't gain any weight during 6 months nutritional visits

Inner Surfer Girl's suggestions are good ones. My program gave me an extensive list of skills to master pre-op. These included things like chewing food throughly, eating slowly, not drinking during meals, abstaining from caffeine/carbonation/smoking, exercising at least five days a week for 30 minutes, logging intake, etc. Working on those skills will help you a lot. They also gave us a 1200 calorie eating plan to follow pre-op that focused on balanced meals, Protein first. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I had mine yesterday. It was a check to make sure I understood the changes that needed to be made, that I had a support system, and that I didn't have any red flags for eating disorders. Also, a check to see that I was following the prescribed diet. If anything major had come up, they would have offered me extra classes or supports to get me where I needed to be. Why is the pre-op diet necessary and so hard?

Hi Tom. Sleeve is usually not recommended for people with severe GERD. RNY is preferred. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It's one of the joys of special needs parenting. You would think double coverage would make things easier, but it's really a pain in the butt. I m grateful for it though because his formula and feeding supplies are over $2000 a month, and his Prevacid is $400-500 a month. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Struggling truck driver post op
daniotra replied to LadiiReignBeau's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When my auntie was a long-haul trucker she installed a mini-fridge and microwave in her sleeper to help cut down on costs. Is something like that possible? If not, a good cooler might be your best bet. Figure out what types of shelf-stable foods are good for you (hello canned tuna!) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
The worst that would happen is you would have to pay the co-pays, deductible and co-insurance that your primary doesn't cover. We go through this all the time with my son's medical supplies. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Funny observation about clothes post-surgery
daniotra replied to gpmed's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Unfortunately, they didn't match up very well to sizes. It depended on which style they were. I wore a 26 when those were out, but I could wear a 4(blue circle) very comfortably because they fit my small waist and big hips well. In the red style (square?), I needed a six for my hips and had a huge gap at the back. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I try not to eat after 8PM. When I'm really munchy, I drink flavored Water. It helps a little. It also helps to have my husband around. I'm more likely to cave to my cravings if I'm alone. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Was it red blood or coffee grounds? My son had this occur 3-4 months after having his g-tube placed and an intestinal malrotation corrected. He was throwing up coffee grounds. The ER contacted his surgeon just in case. They admitted him for a week and put him on gut rest. Finally decided it was gastritis. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

As a 300+ lb woman, I found it surprising that there were some women in the surgery class that had figures I would have been thrilled to have. One of them that I thought was lovely had a very severe comorbidity that only weight loss could potentially resolve. Seeing so many smaller people made me realize just how over the top my own issues are. Point being, no one knows your full reasons for being there and you don't know what kind of thoughts are actually happening on the other person's head. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Women....painful sex after WLS?

Silicone lube is more slippy, and doesn't get as sticky as Some Water based lubes. There are some combo ones as well. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

My long term goal is to be able to shop in the same stores as my daughter when she gets to be a teen. She's almost two, so it's a very long term goal! Near term, I want to be able to ride roller coasters, get scuba certified and dive with my husband, and not have to use a seatbelt extender on the airplane. I use one just like this. The slots are big enough to hold the calciums, and the pills are sorted by time of day for me. I got mine at Walgreens, but they have similar ones most places. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Were you dry? When your hormones get out of whack you can have issues with lubrication. Find a good lubricant and see if that helps. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Veganaisse is supposed to be good. I haven't tried it. I don't like light mayo because it's sweet. In tuna salad, I replace the mayo with salsa. It makes me happy. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I found the Cytosport 100% whey Protein powder mixes well with coffee. I've been doing this the past few days instead of creamer. I use about two tablespoons (half a scoop) in 12oz of coffee. It's not clumpy. A bit sweet, but not bad. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Eating more than usual :(
daniotra replied to bellabeans's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's common. Realize that you are doing emotional eating here and use it as a lesson to change your behavior. You are nervous and/or excited, plus scared inside about the changes you have to make, so you are eating. Plus you are mourning the loss of favorite foods. Recognize what you are doing and find ways to change it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
