  1. My surgeon didn't set a goal weight but at my last appointment I brought it up. I mentioned that my goal was 125 (I'm also 5'2). He said that based on where I currently was, I may not be happy at that weight and that the healthiest folks have a bmi of 25-27 long-term (he's not a fan of the bmi chart and says it's outdated). Anyway, as I've continued to lose weight I've readjusted my goal to 136.4. That is the very high-end of the normal weight for our height. Once I get there, I'll decide if I want to go lower. I'm currently 140, a size 6, and a small top. I never realized I was "small-framed" and always thought I was big boned. Now that I'm close to goal I'm realizing that 125 may be too small for me.

The point, set a goal that you are comfortable with and work to achieve it, but allow yourself to be flexible along the way. As your body changes, allow yourself to let go of the number and truly figure out what is best for your body and health.

  2. He said he wouldn't do the sleeve or Bypass!! Actually no surgery at all!! It made me sick because I have been through everything they required and was waiting on a surgery date and that's the phone call that I received!!

Find another surgeon. I have Barrett's and they had no problem doing bypass.

  3. I found out I had Barrett's after my pre-op endoscopy. After consulting with my surgeon I opted to have the RNY bypass. With an increased risk of esophageal cancer, I wanted to leave my stomach intact inside my body. God forbid something happens in the future, my old stomach is still there which is what they use to build you a new esophagus.

I had my RNY on 3/14/16 and have been very successful. No more GERD, 121lbs lost and 4lbs to goal!

It's scary to get a diagnosis but I was so thankful for the preop process to truly get a full medical workup and find out any issues I had.

  4. I initially wanted the sleeve thinking bypass was too drastic, but because of GERD I wasn't left with too many options so bypass it was. I had surgery exactly 9 months ago, HW 261, SW 242, and currently 142. No regrets here at all. The only difference is can see from sleeve is that I really have to watch my sugar intake, too much (like a bowl of ice cream) and I'll get sick. I can still eat anything however. I'm an impatient person and the results were quick, so I'm glad I was able to have the bypass.

  5. I have this scale, it's great and very comprehensive. Also connects automatically to my phone and my fitbit. Relatively low cost compared to other smart scales out there. It also comes beautifully packaged..

  6. Again, you look great! Your hair looks good too... any loss yet? I'm terrified of losing my locks.

I've lost about 50% of my hair. It's coming back now, tons of regrowth. I was really upset when it was coming out, but realized there is nothing I can do about it so I just accepted it. Worst months were 2-5 after surgery.

  7. AMAZING!!!!!!!! Truly inspiring! Are you exercising? What's your regimen? You are killing it!

I feel like I should tell you yes because I don't want anyone to think they can do this without excersizing, but truthfully I'm not consistent. I do get 10000 steps a day (fitbit keeps me motivated) and walk 45 minutes to an hour 3 times per week. I need to increase this for maintenence. Where I'm lacking is the toning. I am in serious need of toning, especially my backside and arms. Stomach is a lost cause!!!

  8. Another question for ya ???? since you're eight months out and I'll be starting my journey next month can you tell us what year food and tick looks like on a daily basis would love to hear what things you can eat 8 months out.... do you still do Protein shakes are you get it all through food? Thank you

Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

At 8 months i feel like im in a very "normal" place. Meaning my food choices dont look too different from average folks, its just that my portions are smaller. I know that is a concern for a lot of new folks , that you will always look different or stand out when it comes to food. At first your choices are so limited and your portions are so small that that people may notice. At this point however people don't even realize that you're not eating bread are sugar free drinks. When I go out I order off the regular menu and the portions are so huge that other people don't really track how much you're eating.

I still have trouble getting in all of my Protein, not because I can't, but because I get sick of protein foods in general. I do still use shakes a few times per week.

My food tolerance is pretty strong, meaning not much bothers me, except sugar. I do dump if I eat too much. Yesterday I ate honey nut cheerios dry (not a wise choice I admit) which ended up making me feel like I was going to die!

I have learned to stop before getting too full, that was hard at first but now I know when I'm satisfied. When I go out to eat, most people don't even realize I'm eating less.

A normal day looks like this:

Breakfast-greek yogurt or Protein shake and coffee

Lunch- homemade chicken Soup or salad with chicken

    Snack- whole piece of fruit

Dinner- 1.5 meatballs, 2 tbsp Pasta, 1/4 cup green Beans

  9. I can't decide between sleeve or bypass. Would love to hear your reasons behind your choice. I know everyone's different. Just curious... I think I passed would be better for me because I am a big time sweet eater unfortunately. But I'm terrified about the malabsorption and some other stuff associated with that period at the same time this looks appealing but if Cookies are going to go right down and might not set me up for success. Thank you for posting your before and after pics definitely helps us to see what can be done.

I was a sweets eater also, that was a big part of my decision. I then found out I had GERD (silent, didn't feel it) which caused Barrett's esophagus, that was what did it for me. Sleeve would have been a dangerous option for me.

I like the fear of dumping syndrome, it keeps me in check. I'm also impatient and wanted to lose the weight fast. So far the malabsortion isn't an issue, bloodwork is fine, but ultimately the test of time will tell in this case.

It's a very personal decision, both are good options, both have their pros and cons so I encourage you to write them down and talk with your dr.
