So sorry.. this is a VERY long update on what I have been doing these last several months!!
GOALS -
My goal is 145 now... It was originally 150 but now that I am dancing between 147-149, I changed my goal to 145.
EXERCISE -
After surgery I never worked out, although I wish I did. I am doing random TaeBo here and there, but nothing serious..
I do find it a lot easier to jog now. I jog to my car from my apartment sometimes to get something I need. Before I didn't make it all the way without running out of air but now it's SO easy.
WEIGHT -
My weight hasn't changed since December... Would I call that a stall? I don't know because I'm very happy at my current weight although I would like to lose 20 more pounds because when I get pregnant, I'll want to gain weight without a worry... Yes, I will try to get pregnant soon before the recommended 18 months. I've discussed it with my doctor. I am more than excited I will finally be a mother hopefully before I turn 35 which is when it's high risk for birth defects.
FOOD -
I eat a lot when my period is coming and regular on non period days.. but I never gain weight... I hardly eat sweets.. I just snack on fruits and veggies.. mostly jicama or mangos.. I drink AT LEAST 32oz of Water day. I have the very low calorie orange juice sometimes because I get tired of water. I also drink coffee here and there. It's good and I can't stop.
DUMPING -
I only get pre-dumps now... I usually know when to stop.. when I eat sugar such as coffee, cakes, chocolate, Cookies I get the pre-dumps... I don't eat too many sweets but during that special week, I can't help myself. I have absolutely no problems with Constipation, reflux or any other complications.. the only thing I get is pre-dumps after I cause them after sweets.. I always know when to stop eating regular food but when it comes to sweets... I don't know.. also, I experienced what it means for food to get stuck.. I had eaten an orange at the time. It was the worst pain ever. Very different from dumping. The last time I had full on dumping episode was back October. I had to leave work early.
CLOTHES -
My brain doesn't believe I am 100 pounds lighter and when I shop, I shop like a plus sized woman.. I am now a size 8/9 which is what I always wanted.. but when I see clothes, my brain says... "Ummmm no, you'll need at least a 12/13 and that will for you tight.." how do I get my brain to believe my eyes!? I bought my first bathing suit size 10-12. When I received it in the mail I tried it on and it was too big. So I got a 6-8 and a 8-10.. my brain keeps telling me that I won't fit the 6-8 but my eyes tell me I'll look hot!
OTHER -
My regular doctor officially changed my chart to normal weight.. it was a big deal for me and I am very happy about it.
My loose skin never bothered me before but now it's starting to bug me. My butt looks like a deflated balloon.. after I have a baby/ies, I plan on dancing around the idea of a butt lift and definitely a breast lift..
I'm still not used to people telling me they want to be skinny like me. Or implying that I am skinny.. it's so new to me.. I was carried by a man for the first time in my life. It was amazing.. I felt like a princess..
Chairs.. I am able to sit in a chair with handles and not feel pain!! In fact, there is space.. and I can always sit Indian style ANYWHERE I sit..
I'm always cold, sometimes I feel pain when I sit because there's no meat/cushion protecting my bones from piercing my skin. I also feel that kind of pain on my shoulder blades. I can see my bones!!! My ribs.. it's truly amazing..
Please let me know your updates and what you guys have been through such as dumping, appearance thoughts, what do you guys eat?
I could just re-write everything you just said. I have all those same feelings. SO 224 CW 140
The only thing I could add is that, for me, I'm very uncomfortable from the attention I get now ....I don't mean from guys hitting on me or anything like that. It's all the people I see at the store, restaurants, bars etc... complimenting me and asking what my secret is. I'm happy where I'm at and I feel amazing, but I'm not proud.

I love sashimi too. I would prefer a sushi roll but I don't go there

Never thought I'd be this worried. Things like, what if I can't do this, what if I don't 100 lbs, what's the point! If I do this for 50 lbs, I really am going to be pissed.
I think you'll be surprised...follow instructions and remind yourself why you did this....at first, you will wonder how you can get by on so little food but you can, then your attitude toward food changes... everything seem to revolve around food in the past and that's just not the case anymore.

I find it surprising that there are so many different "reasons" for people to avoid caffeine coming from their surgeons. The "acidic" nature of it is always hilarious to me. Your stomach has hydrochloric acid in it already. Like, as soon as they close your stomach, it's producing acid again.
The diuretic nature of caffeine is nullified by the amount of Water present in pretty much any caffeinated beverage, so that one isn't true either.
The appetite stimulant is one I haven't heard before. Doesn't make sense to me either. Hell, all the diet pills and appetite suppressants on the market have caffeine as a key ingredient. So I would call bunk on that one as well.
The only verifiable thing I could find on why bariatric patients should not have caffeine is because caffeine attaches to the same receptors that absorb Vitamin D and calcium; and those two are vitally important the first year.
It is also common for caffeine to irritate the bowels in some people. And as a gastric patient, whether you have a sleeve or a pouch, you no longer have a reservoir to hold the coffee in before it seeps into the intestines. So you get a full dose pretty much right off the bat.
Very helpful...thanks

I can't remember the reason behind, no caffeine......was it to be forever or just at the beginning?

Thanks
Today is your big day.....see ya on the losers branch.

The hunger we feel during the pre-surgery diet, does it feel the same after surgery? Meaning is it a struggle when you smell foods and watch others eat. I am on day 11 of full liquids pre surgery. It's been tough the last two days not to take a bite out of everything I see.
I'm 9 months out and I'm so happy also. 85 lbs down, reached my goal a couple months ago...I'm amazed how easy it has been to stay away from bad food and how easy it is to stop when I'm full.
Couple times I've eaten a bit too fast or a couple bites too much and feel so sick....that keeps me in check....I'm glad my new body doesn't let me get off track.

You look fantastic! How tall are you. Our starting weight and goal is very similar

It'll come...don't get too hung up on it.
I never was a popsicle eater but after surgery I went crazy over sugar free popsicles.
Same with the Protein. It takes a little figuring out how to get it all in. Just keep plugging away at it everyday and eventually you'll get it all in (or close to it) : )

Don't stress if you can't get it all in....it'll come ....same with the Protein...it takes time to work it all in. Just don't chose to eat the wrong foods.Hello gang. Just a quick question. I'm a month out in three days and I'm able to meet 64oz of Fluid a day but it takes all day. How are you guys getting your Fluid met.

I just eat a few bites of Protein off my husbands plate...then he feels better, he's not over eating either. And I am a cheap skateFirst day off of the pureed stage!!!!
Going out to eat tonight and then catching a movie. I understand that I will be ordering and eating only Protein. Probably just 2 - 3 oz.
Any dinner location ideas in the north Dallas area that has a pretty friendly menu? We usually end up at Houston's but I don't want to pay $25-27 for my meal and only two - three bites of food. (I'm not cheap, just trying to adjust to this new lifestyle)
Really don't want to be the guy asking or explaining about a kids meal "due to weight loss surgery".
Any ideas?
If im with people that don't know about my surgery. I may order a grilled chicken and pick on my food, move it around my plate...cut it up, but don't end up eating much....no one even notices, everyone is so busy talking. Grilled salmon is a great protein too.

I do feel that some initially look older but when their skin firms and their hair thickens back up they look younger again.
I was 224, 5' 6" and my goal was 140....when I hit 150 I felt like that was thin enough. At first I think I did look old ....I don't know if I'm just getting used to it or if i learned to wear my hair differently, makeup differently, and my skin has firmed up some.
Good question/observation.
I'm certainly happy with my choice.
