  1. 57 here - and walking is my exercise of choice for now. (I'm 6 weeks out).

Now that it's a bit warmer during the day I walk a mile during my lunch hour (since that time is no longer all about eating!) and then I'll have some sliced turkey and cheese (no bread) and I feel great for the rest of the day. I'll also go to the gym with my 17 year old daughter and do the treadmill and some light weight lifting. For a former couch potato, I'm doing pretty good! I hope to become more active but for now - baby steps!! :D

  2. I am ALSO 6 weeks out and down 35 pounds. I thought the same thing - that I would have lost more. Then I realized that the numbers on the tape measure were going down!! I definitely lost inches - enough for people to really notice. So putting on an old top and having it hang on me is encouragement enough to keep going. My doctor is happy with my progress and stressed (like everyone else) that I must get in Protein, Water and walking. I use a fitness tracker too and it also helps to see those numbers go up.

Good luck to all and keep up the good work!! :D

  3. Hey Lisa!

I'm from South Nassau and, guess what? I had my sleeve surgery on March 8th at Winthrop Hospital with..........wait for it..............Dr. Barkan!!!

The surgery went extremely well. No complications and I'm 3 weeks post-op and feeling great! You should be close to your surgery, if not already.

  4. I'm at the 3 week stall right now myself but I'm not letting the scale get me down. I HAVE noticed a visible difference and clothes are a little looser so I'm continuing with my pureed diet. I get over 60 gr of Protein a day and very little sugar but I think carbs are a little high plus I know I should be drinking even more Water. I'm also walking at least a mile a day (for an old couch potato like me this is a MAJOR accomplishment!).

So I'm going to read that forum about stalls that was suggested and keep on keepin' on!! Oh, and I think I'd better get that stool softener....nuff said!! Thanks for all the advice. :D

  5. I'm just over 3 weeks out from my VSG. I lost 16 the first week and then nothing. I was getting frustrated until I looked at the before pics I took and current pics. There is a visible difference! I'm losing inches first. :o My winter coat (which I thought I could put away by now but it's still friggin' cold on Long Island) fits better and my shoes are looser. I didn't realize how much Fluid I was retaining until it was gone! So hang in there and take pics like others suggested. I know I made the right decision - just waiting for the scale to catch up!! :D (Pre-op diet weight: 286 - Surgery date: 276 - Current: 260)

  6. @@Purplej I've been experiencing some backaches but I was told that was normal after surgery... Did anyone suffer with a fever post-op yesterday I had a high fever of 103.3 and since it broke I've been getting fevers off and on running about 99.5 I'm afraid this will keep me from being discharged and that I may have an infection somewhere.... I also have a drain tube that seem to be draining normally nothing to show infection

  7. How are you managing to hey fluids in?

I sip pretty much all day. I'm still working on my first 1/2 of the bottle of Isopure. I added some Water to it because it seemed too sweet (I got the Grape Frost flavor). I'm doing what I can. See doc tomorrow and maybe he'll start me back on shakes. (I miss chocolate!)

  8. This is my seventh post op day. I'm feeling pretty good - not much pain at all. However, the one thing that IS a pain is trying to get all the liquids in! The nurse from the hospital called to check up on me and said if I get at least one 20-ounce bottle of the Isopure in a day that's pretty good. Anyone else having issues getting their fluids?

BTW - congrats to those that just had their surgery. I knew it would go well!

1st day post op. Miserable from two tablespoons of veggie broth, drinking since 645 this morning. But I will keep that in mind. I literally have to take ten every hour to get it down.

The very first sip I took from the little cup was a bit more than I should have tried. I threw it up. I know what I did wrong and it hasn't happened again! just pace yourself. By the time I finished ONE item on my Breakfast tray - the lunch tray arrived! Hang in there girl!

  10. These gas pains are no joke. Two days post op and last night I slept on my bed, it was a bit of a challenge. It's like I have to be propped up and can't lay flat, my back hurts extremely. hopefully this shall pass soon!

I've been having back pains too! I didn't know why but I try to alternate between sitting straight up on the couch and laying down propped up. Gas is still there but very minimal. Fun, huh? LOL

  11. How is everyone doing? I'm 4days post op and wanted to share some things. I got discharged 2 days after the surgery. It felt so good to sleep on my own bed without any one coming in and out of my room waking me every 2 hours to check my vitals coz I had a fever of 101.4 but it eventually broke. after passing the drinking challenge I was sent home . I'm ok. I move around fine , I just can't sit straight. In fact everyone keeps telling me I don't look like I just had a major surgery which is good!! Now the hard part is keeping myself hydrated and drinking my Protein. I can feel every sip going down my throat and my stomach and it hurts! So now , i take my pain meds before and try to finish my Protein intake within that 4hours while I'm numb. I'm seeing my surgeon in a week . Not sure if I should call him to talk to him about this or is this going to go away soon ? Anyone experiencing this yet ?

Also I haven't had any bowel movement yet ! Should I be worried?

    FYI I'm down 8lbs

Hi there. I kind of had the same issue with getting the protein in. The first day or two I really couldn't handle more than the 2 tbsp Cup every half hour. But I'm on my 5th post op day and I'm able to drink more often. Yesterday I actually was able to finish one and a half bottles of the Isopure so I got my 60 grams of protein! Of course it literally took me all day to finish it I started at 7 in the morning and finished it about 9:30 in the evening period in between I had medicine with applesauce and a little broth. I'm concerned you haven't had a bowel movement yet. I had one or two small ones while still in the hospital. My doctor said if you don't have one in three days you should call so I think you should call your doctor just to be sure everything's cool. Good luck!

  12. Hello everyone!

Surgery was a success! I'm so happy! the only thing that was killing me for about 5 hours was gas that was terrible! But now I'm doing excellent!

Thank you for your prayers and warm wishes.

Woo Hoo!! I knew you'd be fine. Seems like your gas problem went away before me did. The morning I went home I still felt bloated but hapoy! Congrats on your new life!

  13. @@Iscarelys - Ahhh! Best of luck to you! :)

Surgery is next Wednesday and I'm starting to freak out a little bit. I feel like I'm worried more about my significant other after surgery than I am about myself. I had my nutritionist appointment, who gave me a booklet that laid EVERYTHING out for the next 3-4 months, so I have a great grasp of what to expect. He's having the whole "Well, I'm going to feel guilty eating around you" thing, which I know is something he's going to have to work through. Idk if anyone has had the same thing.

Hey there! My hubby had the same concerns. Plus he's not very good about making his own food and is used to having dinner made for him. As long as he doesn't eat near me and enjoy it I'm fine so far. Also I have a wonderful 17 year old daughter who has been cooking for her dad so I don't have to be around too much. We all have to learn new ways of eating but we'll be just fine.

  14. Eeek! I just heard my surgeon @ mayo Clinic will require 2 weeks of OptiFast.. however, because I've lost 12 lbs since January, I may not have to. He's going to manually check my liver to see if he thinks it's necessary. Crossing fingers!

My surgeon said my liver was fine based on a manual check and I'm more bottom heavy than abdominal heavy. I was put on a 14 day preop due to my bmi of 57. I have lost about 30lbs. Hopefully you don't have to do it. ...
Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've been on the preop liquid diet on day 11 and have lost only about 8.2 lbs. I'm proud for those that's dropping large numbers but begging for advice. My surgery is March 15th.

Nothing wrong at all! I lost just 19 pounds pre-op and it was fine. I'm 5 days post-op now, feeling great (hardly any pain) and down another 10. It's working! Good luck to you!

The day is here! Surgery in a couple of minutes! everything is going great so far! I am very blessed! ???? Hope everyone has a great day . I'll see you guys later!

  15. @@Donegirl4life - you got this!

@@Purplej - So glad things have been good! It makes me hopeful for a similar outcome!

I just found out my surgery may be delayed. I've developed an upper respiratory infection and have to bump up the steroids I take. That may potentially cause a risk of increased infection. If we can't bring them down before surgery - it's getting rescheduled. To say I'm upset is putting it lightly.

I'm so sorry your surgery was postponed . Better safe then sorry though. It WILL happen and you'll be glad you did it! I'm progressing well and am on fluids now. Should go home tomorrow.

    Hang in there!
