    does the team have a NUT? the A1c is a 3 month value - so if they have to postpone keep trying. you may need medication or a medication change to bring this about. keep pursuing it. the most important things I learned when I was a diabetic is to always have a Protein whenever you have a carb. go as low carb as you can now. the truth is that is very hard when you are a diabetic. it's really easy to say and hard to do. but the more protein less carbs will help - but it is a value that takes time. when I was a diabetic I could eat very little fruit. so veg and lean protein as much as possible. and realize they have this rule for your safety. If they want that number lower it is so you can have a good, safe recovery.

    I would have a small serving of fruit, or a sugar free Popsicle, or part of a chocolate Protein bar (I like the power crunch triple chocolate). there's usually a healthier way to scratch an itch.

    sex drive, and depression

    I am sorry you are going through this. a LOT of antidepressants have this as a side effect, so it is likely related to that. I would recommend that you be very frank with the doctor who prescribes these so they can work with you to find an antidepressant that still allows you to feel all the feelings you want to feel with your spouse. years ago my husband was on anti depressants for anxiety (He has Asperger's) and it was a rough go for a long time until we found something that worked and didn't leave him with those side effects. but these medications have to be weaned and new ones started slow - so you certainly need medical professional help in making the changes. but its WORTH the effort and you can reconnect again!
  7. well, I just don't crave some of the junk I wanted before. fried food doesn't feel real good in my stomach, even if I take the coating off - so that is a no go, and I find I really want the lean Protein and veg. before I would eat huge quantities of foods. now if I do have something (say it's someones birthday and I take a slice of cake) I might have a bite or two and not even finish the piece. before I'd have had a piece and if asked to take some home I would have said yes please. it's a whole different world. for me, I used to be diabetic, and I think the diabetes drives a desire for simple carbs - and with that gone and normal blood sugars I just don't feel the love for it anymore. it feels great to have normal blood sugar all the time. as for chocolate, when I want the chocolate - I have a Protein shake I like a really lot and a triple chocolate power crunch protein bar. so, there are some things you find an alternative that meets with your nutritional goals. as a bonus my chronically too thin teenage daughter likes them, and will often share an extra large protein shake with me on the way to school/work so she is getting some extra nutrition, protein and calories too. better than her picking up my old coca cola habit!

    Progress

    this is such a key shift from the old way of thinking! and you put this so very well. success is moving towards a healthier relationship with appropriate servings of real food - not getting the fewest calories possible or dropping weight the fastest you can - although for all of us it is about loosing body fat. it is about seeing what your body can do movement wise (which is going to be different depending on other health issues) - and recapturing our real lives. the people who are truly successful navigate to this new normal.

    to eat around your sleeve it means that rather than your prescribed meals/snacks you are eating more often, or for a longer time to get more calories in. consuming slider foods that you can way load up on calories or drinking your calories. which means your restriction is still in place but you are finding a way to consume too many calories. isn't venison Jerky the best? my mom makes the very best. it is a treat she usually gives us at the holiday times. Because you can't just go get more of this any time you want, I would not worry too much about a treat, especially one that is Protein heavy.

    I like cottage cheese or cheese curds with 1/3 of an apple sliced I also like half an ounce of almonds a few dried cherries and a couple of chocolate chips.

    Dehydration question

    I think in these first weeks ANYTHING that concerns you - you should call. did you have the dry mouth before or is that new? I was struggling with some dehydration this week due to having a bad cold, and yesterday thought I would need to go in for some IV but was able to get it turned around and I feel much better hydrated. I also had a dry mouth and a certain headachy feeling along with my eyes feeling dry.

    Skin and Sex...

    you may be overthinking things. my husband has never had any problem with my body. not when I was thinner, not when I was younger. not when I was pregnant (right up to the morning of being induced) not when I was nursing (milk everywhere with the O) not when I was heavier, not when I got older, not when the weight is coming off and skin is in weird places. He thinks I'm sexy, funny and beautiful, and I hope your man feels the same about you no matter where you are in your life, or weight loss.

    Terrible head cold and sore throat

    I have had the crud since Wednesday, and have been taking over the counter flu and cold medication, but if you are unsure talk to your team. there's no information about how far out from surgery you are or anything. the biggest problem for me has been staying hydrated. a couple of times I have been afraid I might need IV fluids, but I managed to chug down enough to keep me going. the hubs has been keeping a close watch on me. I hate missing work for not fun things BOO. Hope you feel better right quick.

    you will need to know how many calories you need per day in order to maintain the weight you want to stay at, and then through healthy choices consume that many calories per day. with salads - that could mean anything - and Protein bars? depends on what kind and how many? what other foods do you like to eat? do you have a bariatric team that you are working with to ensure your continued good health?

    How did you decide?

    I would, along with your doctor, evaluate your other health problems to come to a decision about what is best for you. I have ADD and take salmon oil and other supplements - and I could not take all of them with the bypass, also I have no reflux or GERD - and we both agreed the sleeve was best in my particular case. both surgeries can be eaten around, and both can be used effectively to become healthy so that part of it is all up to you and your willingness to change your life. most people do not dump with either surgery so I wouldn't personally hold that as a main reason for either surgery.

    that all depends on how successful you are at changing the habits that caused obesity in the first place, as well as the state of your physical health. you can eat your way around the sleeve if you choose to do so.

  22. in some ways, @@Alex Brecher I am more patient with other people's physical limitations - I've been there. and because I *can* stand in line longer than I used to be able to - it's easier to wait on others. I am more patient with finding a parking place as I no longer need to be up close. it's the same thing with finding a seat as I do not need to worry if I will only fit into a certain kind of seat. in other ways it's made me less patient. less patient with people who do nothing to improve their situation - less patient with people trying to put others at a disadvantage. less patient with self centered people. but, when possible far more likely to just ignore them or walk past them. I have places to go and things to DO!
  23. Saying a prayer for you. Just get back on track and move forward - you had all those IV fluids so I'd guess you're ok for now. I did not have my spouse leave but my dad died unexpectedly at around 4 months post op and it was a challenge to drink enough or get Protein for a little while so I do understand how the shock and changes can set you down for a minute. I lost 40lbs in a month from 200lbs. He said I didn't need it but I needed the discipline, I'm a GREAT cook/baker. It worked b/c now I don't even want food b/c I throw up everything .   25. a lot of people find the shakes too thick, and do better if they cut them with fairlife milk or kroger carb master milk. - the chocolate ones taste like having hot cocoa. which may be a better idea for you. play around with thinning it out a bit. you say you're struggling with liquids also - you just have to sip sip sip all day long. have a timer on your phone to remind you if needed. it should get a bit easier each day - and if it doesn't then a visit to your doctor is in order.
