Help! Please answer if you know!

please let us know how you are doing!
  2. I had the sleeve. Off metformin 3 days before surgery. 6 month A 1 c was 5.4. And in my case diabetes has been removed from my medical record as a health concern. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hungry

if you feel like you are getting no where with your bariatric team then you could ask your PCP for a referral to a Gastroenterologist and see what they think. I had those feelings in the very beginning but they went away as my stomach healed.

Do you tell your friends or not?

there isn't any right or wrong with this issue. it's up to your comfort level in sharing. I tend to be a fairly open person who doesn't really give a rats a$$ what others think. so I have been pretty open about my surgery, which in the long run (after I heard everyone's comments and opinions) means that I have a lot of support. some of it misguided, but all well wishes and support, which is lovely. my attitude was if you have an opinion let's hear it and then I will move ahead and do what I need to do. but not everyone can handle the scrutiny that can bring.

    help! new sleeve question

glad you're having a good recovery! at this point, because liquids go right on through - and soft foods mush up to nothing, just measure/weigh your foods and stick to the amounts they want you to have.

    Just feel lost

counseling could be very helpful, but also know that it is normal in long term relationships to go through times where you don't seem to fit together anymore and then times when it all clicks. as for his portions or his sitting there - you have to let him be him and you be you. it doesn't mean that you can't be a couple anymore. it doesn't mean that you won't positively influence each other either. My husband likes to sit and play a game for recreation. I want to get out and do things. when I really desire his company he joins me on my adventures, but most of the time he just kisses me and sends me on my way. If you are having money problems perhaps he is also dealing with depression. How many of us can relate to turning to food and being sedentary when depressed? If you are a person of faith I recommend the book 'Sacred Marriage' - very helpful.

    Mistake? VSG

you're the only one who knows if it is right for you. think of where your life will be in one year without making this change? and now with making the change? honestly the vast majority of people only wonder why they took so long to do it. no regrets from me.

me too! it was my pre op testing, specifically a high WBC that revealed an underlying either rather rare auto immune disorder or what they think now is more likely a low grade lymphoma in my abdomen. I would have gone for years with symptoms that I didn't understand, not feeling really well - and who knows if they would have caught the lymphoma in time? now they will watch it and we will know when to do more intensive treatment.

I KNOW I can eat more than I should

seems normal to me. any swelling in your actual stomach should be healed by this point. I focus on lean Protein and veg - some fruit, good dairy. I pre prep and pre plan most of my meals for the week on the weekend, so at least the protein is fixed and easy to assemble with some veg. Today I will be cooking down some chicken breasts and a ground meat blend to be used in my wee meals. This morning will be scrambled egg and turkey sausage, with a side of coffee. I have a saucer size plate, and after 6 months my plan had me with half my plate lean protein half veg, which I do pretty good about for lunch and dinner.
  10. my husband has always been for whatever I want pretty much. but he was very worried about having part of my stomach cut out. he has never struggled with his weight and honestly it took a lot of research for him to understand that while he could simply eat less potato chips to drop 5 pounds - my 100+ was not going to budge without drastic measures. And then I developed diabetes. honestly, had I been approved sooner I would have just gone ahead - and trusted him to come around - but that does not always happen - so you have to be aware. as it turns out a completely different medical condition delayed my surgery almost a year - and during that time, as we both became more educated he came around. He is not overweight, so the only habit he has changed is I have asked him to not put his bag of chips between us, but rather on the other side of him - and he also now wants Protein powder in his hot cocoa at night. He's thrilled that I no longer have diabetes or high BP and as of now I am back to the weight I was when we married - wishing you all the success in the world as you educate your spouse and make plans for your new future.
  11. nervous is normal! I was nervous - changing my whole life! I didn't really have trouble with stairs, but I only have a 3 step stairs into my house. Hopefully the hospital will give you a binder which you can wear for a short time as long as your abs need it for support. looking forward to hearing how things go with your surgery!

    Feeling lonely

I think it must be harder to have a special pre op diet - and those pesky couple of weeks of liquids after surgery but let me encourage you that once I was on real foods I can find something appropriate at just about every venue - or sometimes I take a protien bar if I think nothing will appeal to me. You will get your social life back, although it will probably not look exactly like it did before! and, it is WORTH IT.

  14. first thing that comes to mind is that I do not have to choose 1 activity on my days off - in otherwords, if I go hiking I will not be able to get my chores done - or if I work in the garden I can not go hiking due to fatigue, body pain, etc. now it is no problem to do multiple things a day - or to do household chores when I return home freeing up more weekend time for leisure activities. secondly the fact that I do not have to worry if I eat this or eat that (Fruit is the main choice in this category) will my blood sugar go high - what will my A1c be - is my Metformin controlling it? is it worth taking the Metformin (side effects) - no worries because I am no longer considered a diabetic, no longer on any prescription medications. this is also a huge, freeing truth.

    Lol, I am a idiot!

haha! that's not the typical post WLS effects!
  16. you will not stretch your new stomach, and especially not with liquids which go through pretty quickly. in early days the swelling means if you drink too much at a time it may come up into your esophagus. which is not pleasant or you may feel like you've just had Thanksgiving dinner. it will be different when you are eating soft foods and then foods 2-3 ounces of lean Protein will be plenty enough, if you can even manage that.

health insurance. can't live with it, can't live without it! I also have BCBS Federal. but all I can tell you is it is all worth it!
  18. Christinamo7

    Up and ok at 100%

people tend to be doing pretty well and cleared for normal activity at around 4 weeks, but that is a general idea. you may feel great sooner, or a little later.
  19. Christinamo7

    Exercising?

at that point I was only cleared for walking. right now you should just be focused on recovering from surgery. the weight loss will come and stalls are normal.
  20. you'll get there, you are only 4 days out. when I had applesauce I added unflavored Protein powder to it, to give me a boost, you could do the same to the cream soup and with the milk at breakfast. one day soon the swelling will go down in your stomach and it's like flipping a switch, you are able to take in a little more at a time and it gets easier to meet your goals.
  21. right at this very moment I am sitting in my office chair with my legs crossed under me. I could do that on the floor before surgery - but not in my chair.
  22. working half the day - then a DEXA scan and then a hot date tonight! let the weekend begin!

Peter Cetera can bring it - and the Symphony is always the best show in town.

  23. second on the yoga - I have struggled with back problems for more than 25 years following a very difficult pregnancy. Yoga has been the single most beneficial thing I have done to combat the progression of my back problems/pain, followed by epsom salts baths. and now with that fat tummy out of the way I am finally making progress with my yoga that astounds me. I personally really like the Peggy Cappy videos.
  24. I would need more information in order to have an informed opinion. You've lost 120! great! how much more do you need to loose, what is your BMI? what is your goal? then there are the statistics. pesky little devils. the vast majority of everyone who looses weight gains it back. the surgery is a way of moving the odds more to your favor. for me that's a tipping point in favor of the surgery. wishing you all the best!
  25. I was advanced to soft foods at around 10 days. if you do this again you might want to consider something not chicken - something like cottage cheese, or scrambled eggs or refried Beans. Most plans do not have meats until 4 weeks or so.
