  1. My doctor's office said that UHC will approve for <40 BMI with at least two comorbidities. I was approved with 37.5 BMI and 3 comorbidities (high blood pressure, heart disease & depression).

    Surgery-6 days later

I was banded on the 14th. I'm on liquids until Wednesday, then blenderized foods for 3 weeks, then mushies. So sick of broth Soups, at least I can graduate to cream soups and survive for three weeks. I want to try so hard to not call the nutritionist asking for an early release to mushies! What is your food plan?

I am so hungry, I want to cheat, I need support

Oh - this was me last night! I was craving anything that wasn't a liquid!!! I know it's for the good of the band, but ahhhhhhhh! Back on track today, but last night I was ready to drag out some lunchmeat and bread. This too shall pass!

    Surgery Tomorrow...Scared

I just had my surgery on Monday and I was scared like you, especially the night before. I work graveyard, so work was my distraction. I was pretty tearing in the pre-surgery room giving hubby and my boys kisses and hugs. Once the process started of changing, getting IV in, etc., things started to move quickly. I have my wonderful husband, two small boys and a grown daughter - all I feared leaving if something went wrong. I sailed through the surgery without any problems! I remember going into the surgery room and feeling like I was being worked on by a pit crew - all of them working in perfect precision, with pleasant and comforting attitudes. Next thing I knew they were waking me up to do a swallow test - very yucky tasting! My surgery took under 1-1/2 hours. Yes, I am uncomfortable now and goofy from the pain meds, but not regretting it one bit. You will do great. Take your sweet baby for a walk to help get your mind off of things. Best wishes and many prayers for you to have a smooth and speedy surgery and recovery!

    New bandster!

I had my surgery yesterday and feel like I am recovering well! I spent the night at the hospital for insurance reasons and actually glad that I had to. Gave me time to meet another bandster that had her surgery a few hours before mine. We had a long chat at 12:30 am and took laps around the ward. Was out of the hospital by 9 am (at my request) this morning. Now I am experiencing the "fun" gas pains that I have read so much about. Other than a little incision discomfort, I feel really good. I plan to go to work tomorrow night for a 1/2 shift - I sit on my duff answering customer service calls. Looking forward to getting on full liquids in the morning!

    Surgery Monday - HELP!!!

Totally have the Gas X - bought a box at Costco!! Aunt Flo was playing tricks on me - so I'm out of the woods for now. Hopefully she will stay away for just one more day! I'm at work now (work a graveyard shift). I'll have about 2 hours at home, then off to Steven's.

    A Cautionary Tale!

5 weeks after my son was born I had heart failure (peripartum cardiomyopathy). My heart function was at 15% - a healthy heart's function is usually 66%. I was on the verge of dying when my husband took me to the ER. I was short of breath, had raspy breathing and was spitting up pink foamy stuff. Spent a week in the hospital and have gradually improved. Now three years later and being on medications, my heart function has returned back to normal and my cardiologist considers me completely recovered. I take Coreg and he said that it would be the last drug he would take me off if he ever does. I was wrong in saying I was taking it for a-fib - I refreshed my memory about this med and it helps with blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart deteriation over time because of heart failure. So glad that you are feeling good - having a heart issue is so scary! Something I don't ever want to go through again! Best wishes for a speedy and uneventful recovery.

    A Cautionary Tale!

Yikes! How scary! I'm curious to know if you were taking any multi-Vitamins before this happened. I have some heart issues and take medications for high BP and to prevent a-fib. My cardiologist already cleared me for surgery, so I'm not worried.

    Surgery Monday - HELP!!!

Forgive me guys ... so do I walk in Monday morning with a pad or tampon?! What a pain!! At least I won't feel any cramps! Although the gas pains will replace that.

    getting banded in 3 days

I'm getting banded on Monday as well! Best wishes to you and see you on the other side. Crazy ... typing "Monday" makes me realize how close it is! I've already bought my liquids and ready to go. Now just need to make myself get laundry done, clean house and make sure the rest of the family has food to eat! Yippee for us!
  14. Surgery is on Monday and I'll be shopping this weekend for the weeks to come. I'm going to buy some Isopure and was wondering if anyone has a favorite flavor or one that might have been just terrible. How about liquid vitamins? Any favorites or suggestions? Thanks!

    Isopure/Liquid Vitamin Flavor Ratings

Thanks everyone! I'll definitely get Flintstone vitamins. Guess I'll try a few Isopures and get some protein shakes. So glad I asked - I knew you would have the answers I was looking for!

    New bandster-to-be

    Liver shrinking diet

I just started my pre-op diet today. I can have veggies, protein and 40 grams of carbs per day. So far so good, but know I will be struggling towards the end of the week. All I know is that I don't want to have an "open" procedure!!!
