Parking at Border Crossing
determinedtolive replied to jhottness's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm in SoCal so I was going to take an Uber all the way to San Diego. My boss is the one that suggested Amtrak and it was a fantastic suggestion! I could relax and not have to worry about a thing. I did my trip to Old Towne which is about 14 minutes from the airport but I think the next stop might be just slightly closer to the airport. -

Not sure what city you're in but I took the Amtrak. Took an Uber/Lyft from the train station to the airport to be picked up. They dropped me off at the train station coming back. I booked mine in February for June so it only cost me $70 round trip with a business seat on the way back. -
Puréed diet hacks
determinedtolive replied to iamjohnbamber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is technically my last day for pureed/soft foods, tomorrow I can start introducing regular foods. Made the ricotta bake last night and that thing is the most heavenly food I've ever tasted!! -
Premier Protein...

banana is excellent and caramel doesn't really taste like caramel. It's way too sweet and sat really heavy in my stomach. Sent from my Moto G (4) using the BariatricPal App -
I'm freaking HUNGRYYYY! Eeerrrrgggg!
determinedtolive replied to SiSSi829's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sticking to a full liquid diet should be so much easier as there are more ways to get Protein in which will help with any hunger you may have. One thing I would highly suggest (because it's so dang tasty) is ProtiDiet Creamy chicken Soup. It has 15g of protein in it and for me was out of this world. I had a Protein shake for Breakfast and dinner, a soup at lunch and then water/powerade zero in between all those times. I want to thank @innersurfgirl for posting about this brand in other topics because I may not have known about it without her posts. Way to go on the 23lb loss! I'm only at 7 down since surgery but trying to be patient. -

Have you looked into pea or hemp protein? I am not familiar with them enough to offer any suggestions on brands but Google it to see if it's something you can have and maybe start there. Good luck! -

I'm counting the days until I'm allowed to have "regular" food and hope my sleeve still enjoys bacon!!! After surgery we were told a story about a cardiologist that came in to have surgery (I can't remember if it was the sleeve or bypass) and thought because he was a doctor he knew better than the bariatric surgeon. He ate something early on that wasn't allowed for his stage and ended up in surgery with a ruptured stomach. With something that can be potentially as life threatening as eating off plan, you can bet I'm sticking to what guidelines I've been given. I am in no hurry to rush anything at this point. -
Has anyone here used ALO Bariatrics with Dr. Alejandro Lopez in Tijuana? I'm scheduled for August 5th
determinedtolive replied to lorellen73's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Yes, Thank you. Good luck with the surgery. Sent from my SM-N910T3 using the BariatricPal App Just wanted to check in with you. I had surgery in TJ on 6/23/16 so I'm heading into my 3rd week post-op. I can't say enough about how well we were treated (there were 5 of us) throughout our stay. From the driver to Sandra the patient coordinator on that side to all the staff including Dr. Lopez. Even the staff at the Marriott were wonderful. Day after surgery, my roommate and I walked from the recovery boutique (2nd floor of the hospital) to the Wal-mart which is about a block and half from there. Only pain I personally felt was from the dang drain. Once that was pulled on Saturday the 25th, I felt instant relief. Sandra took us shopping on Saturday at Revolution St. which was fun. There is a book in the recovery boutique...don't forget to sign it! We did. -

Another suggestion to help with the dizziness is to drink some Powerade zero or gatorade g2. It will give you some electrolytes your body is missing on the clear diet. Whenever I feel weak or dizzy I drink that and feel much better. Atkins has a Protein drink that isn't horrible (I despise Isopure!): https://www.atkins.com/products/atkins-lift-protein-bars-drinks/protein-drinks/lift-berry-flavored-protein-drink Bone broths also have more protein in them than regular broth. Anything higher in protein (not more than 30g's in one sitting) and drunk slowly (over 20-30 minutes) will help with feeling fuller. Good luck! -

I haven't seen the grape yet, I could only find cherry for now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Look on Groupon. I bought almost all mine for $14.99 (box of 12). The others I got on Amazon. To me, grape tastes like an otterpop. Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App -

I actually like the Protein 2 O waters. Grape and Wild Cherry are the ones I liked the most. Haven't tried (or seen) the Pina Colada tasting one. Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App -

Ok who is currently on a preop diet?!
determinedtolive replied to Katrinakit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Started mine on 6/8/16, which consisted of 2 protein shakes & a salad with meat. On 6/15/16, I started the liquid diet. Sort of. I did well until I got home from work and ate carne asada nachos and french fries. I have stuck with the liquid diet since and haven't been hungry. Surgery is Thursday. Guys, I don't like bacon anymore!

This is blasphemy!!! Of everything I love, the two things I'd be most upset about not liking post-op are: 1. seafood (most all) 2. bacon -
Gaining before surgery
determinedtolive replied to HeavenlyGirl101's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also self pay (Mexico) and my main focus and motivation to NOT gain weight or even stay the same was the fact that I will have to pay $350 more if I'm over 50 BMI. I am 2 lbs away from hitting the # I need to be to avoid the charge at but am hoping it will go lower as I'm on a liquid diet until next Wednesday. -
Starting 2 week liquids soon... has anyone started planning for this yet?
determinedtolive replied to Candygyrl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been stocking up at work as well. Items I have both at home and work are: Protein powder (just at home as I'll make what I need at home and bring with me) Protein 2 o water Bone broth Premier Protein shakes (As of today I can't drink them because I'm on a clear liquid diet but will be able to drink them 2 weeks post-op) Tried to make homemade Jello last weekend but it turned out horrible. Probably the juice I used. If my 2nd attempt fails I'll have to go buy some sf jello from the store. I am trying to avoid aspartame and stuff like it but will have to cave if I can't get my own concoction right. Will probably attempt to make protein popsicles too...or at least sf ones. -
1200 calorie pre-op diet
determinedtolive replied to vickygg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my pre-op diet a week ago: 2 Protein shakes and one meal with lean meat and salad. Additional veggies were allowed if needed (I didn't need them). Today starts the clear liquid phase of my pre-op diet. 8 days of it. Yay me! My days will looks like this (hopefully): 22g Protein shake in the morning (mixed with half "diet" juice and half coconut Water 10g protein bone broth 2 hours later 22g protein shake for lunch (just coconut water) 15g protein 2 0 water 2 hours after that 22g protein shake for dinner (not sure what I'm going to mix it with but it has to be clear) In between all that I drink one 32oz Powerade zero for the electrolytes and have to figure out how to fit in my gallon of water I usually drink a day. Something tells me I may only hit 1/2 gallon a day for the next week. -
Protein shakes - no aspartame or splenda
determinedtolive replied to eliminnowp's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I purchased an unflavored grass-fed whey Protein powder from Amazon. It literally has one ingredient. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0177EF6KU/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App -
On the liquid portion of my pre-op, I can't drink these as it has to be clear. I started my pre-op on 6/8 and have been able to enjoy them thus far. Tomorrow marks the last day for these tasty treats. Blah!

Soft food ideas
determinedtolive replied to FabFemale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just be careful. I LOVED liver cheese pre-op. Post-op it is a bit fatty for me. I don't specifically limit fatty foods but have found that foods with a higher fat content are not as appetizing as they once were and can make me a little woozie. Just go slow and see how well you handle it.If I recall, livercheese is by Oscar Mayer, right? Square piece with white fat around the edge? What I purchased is nothing like that. These are the ingredients: Ingredients: beef, beef liver, beef kidneys, beef heart, Water, sea salt, onion powder, white pepper, coriander, marjoram, all spice With that being said, I absolutely plan on taking it slow, my new stomach may or may not like it. Was just excited to realize there is something else I can try during that stage that is healthy. Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App
