  1. I got clarity on this confusion by our program staff after reading so many posts from people having to do that nasty liquid diet I didn't have to do and hadn't even heard of. Whether or not you are told to do a 2-3 week long liquid diet pre-op (or whatever you are told to do pre-op) simply depends on where you have surgery. Different programs/centers will have different requirements - it's just program preference. Mine (a Center of Excellence) required 10% loss of excess weight on our own pre-surgery, with Clear liquids the day before surgery. (ie. someone 100 lbs overweight would have to lose 10 pounds) IMO, that's a preferred option, certainly for me. I don't think I would have survived a 2-3 week liquid diet with a normal stomach. Torture!
  2. It actually is possible to drink too much Water and in your case, I suspect that is true. You aren't getting enough nutrition to be flushing out your system like that. You must be drinking constantly in order to achieve that kind of intake. How will you ever have room for food?? Of course you're not hungry. Try sipping about 64 oz of water throughout the day instead, only between meals, and leave those 30-60 minutes between food and drink.

    Pre-op Liquid Diet

Is the pre-op liquid diet weight dependent? Curious because I only had to do liquids the day before surgery with nothing after midnight.
  4. That's an incredible amount of Fluid. Seriously, 256 oz of Water? I don't think that's even possible but sure would explain lack of room for food. By gallon, do you mean liters? (2L = 64oz) You should call your surgeons office and tell them what's going on.
  5. Used a packet of Unjury unflavored in cream of chicken soup and it vanished completely. The soup taste and texture was exactly the same as before I added the protein. I was pleasantly shocked. I will be buying Unjury unflavored.

    Hungry already! Is this normal?

7 days post-op and also hungry. This isn't head hunger, I know the difference. Head hunger I can actually ignore, real hunger drags me out of bed at 3am for a yogurt just to stop the pain so I can sleep. I mentioned the hunger to the bariatric nurse when she called to check on me. She said the liquid phase is the worst and once I move to pureed foods, I will start feeling more satisfied. Maybe true but doesn't alleviate the disappointment we feel from being hungry after this operation when we are told that we won't be. On the plus side I have already dropped 6.5 pounds on top of the 10 pounds(!) of Water weight I gained in the hospital. I have never seen the scale drop so fast. Now to survive another week of liquids....

    NH anyone?

Don't be too nervous. Of all the surgeries I have had this was the simplest to deal with. The results you will get are well worth any short-lived discomfort you might have. You won't need it but good luck. Thank you Blamo, and congrats on your progress!
