    Sleeve surgery and stomach drains

I had a drain for 10 days and was such a baby about it. It really wasn't a big deal though, until day 7 and then it started to bother me - minor pain at the site. I think I accidentally yanked on it when I forgot to clip it to my clothes one day. Basically you can expect a pinkish Fluid to collect in the drain bulb. They are checking for leaks and infection and you'll probably be measuring the fluids each time you empty it (2x a day for me). You'll also need to "milk" it as the tube will get clots in it. It actually was pretty painless when it was removed. It's so gross but you'll get through it. Remember to keep it clipped to your clothes or the hospital gave me these pockets that I wore around my neck - after my yanking mishap I used that all the time, and in the shower. 3. You're doing great! I have a hard time keeping my Fitbit on - it all depends if you use it and what you want to track. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    First solid foods

Did your surgeon give you guidelines for amounts and calories? I'm going to weigh my food once I start soft foods tomorrow. Per my guidelines I shouldn't have more than 4 ounces per meal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling satisfied

I'm 4 weeks out tomorrow and I'm able to drink Water fairly quickly. 11 oz shakes & Greek yogurt take about 30 minutes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What was your "last" meal?

I didn't go crazy but I did have a week between my last weigh-in and the start of my pre-op diet where I ate something I loved each day. My last meal was garlic bread and Caesar salad - I honestly wish I had MORE salads during that time, fresh veggies are what I miss the most. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. That's awesome! Please call them & keep us posted! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. And you might very well be allowed soft foods at a week out, I've seen a few people on here who were - but not many. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Wrong. I was sleeved 9/19 and I start soft foods Monday, which is 4 weeks. Not a week. You don't know how long your food recovery phases are and to me, that's a problem. They should have provided you those details. Call the office, that's what they're there for! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Is there a section of your discharge instructions that says how long for each phase? At 4 days out I started full liquids, which I was on for 10 days. If you have started full liquids, Greek yogurt is great to fill you up. And Babbs isn't being a f'n DI@@. You just barely had major surgery. This isn't like weight watchers with suggestions to follow and you get 250 calories a day to splurge. This is because your stomach was cut and stapled mere days ago and is NOT healed. It cannot handle solid food right now, period. If you eat something you risk a leak, a stricture, readmission to the hospital...at the very least you'll be in pain. My program was very clear about these things prior to surgery and I knew what I had to do at at no point did I go against the plan, because I was risking my health. If anything wasn't clear, I asked. Call your surgeon's office and ask how long each phase is. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Drainage Issue :( Any Help?

I had nasty brown drainage from one of my lower incisions 2 days after my staples & drain were removed. It freaked me out but I called the bariatric nurse and she said it was totally normal and to put a bandaid on it. I also put gauze because I didn't want to ruin my clothes. After 4 or 5 days it finally stopped - I was about 14 days out. Are you allowed to put a bandaid on it? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  15. If you were sleeved Sept 28, don't do almonds yet! Can you have Greek yogurt? I've been stirring a scoop of unflavored Protein powder in a yogurt and it ends up being around 30g per serving. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    NSV-First Clothing Purge

I could button up a pair of size 16 jeans yesterday without having to lie down or anything! Hoping to shop my closet from all the 14s/16s I've bought promising they'd fit "soon" - finally they do! I don't want to do a big shop until I hit 200 (60 lbs down overall). I was cleared for the elliptical on day 8, watching to not engage my core. As usual, ever surgeon is different, so check with yours! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

No weight loss in 3 days

You're going to have lots of days where this happens, fluctuations are completely normal! I was sleeved 9/19 and am mentally preparing for the dreaded three week stall by stepping off my scale and moving to weekly instead of daily weigh-ins. At 10 days out your most important tasks are to hit your Fluid intake and Protein goals, walk walk walk and rest. Everything else will fall into place! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Two questions re: liquids

Mine says 10 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. Advanced to the purée stage yesterday and I'm skittish about trying too much, too soon. Yesterday I had an ounce of refried Beans and a tablespoon of squash purée and I couldn't finish it. I'm thinking of trying one meal a day with purees but was curious how the vets out there proceeded. I've been lucky so far with no issues rating/drinking and the fear of any starting is hindering me, I think. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. I was sleeved the same day as you! Been walking every day and am about to head out to the gym to do the elliptical for the first time. I was told that was great but to be careful not to engage my core for now. Generally speaking we shouldn't be lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk until 6 weeks out. Endoscopy

I felt fine after the endoscopy but I was drugged up. Took the day off and was fine the next day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. Awesome! We have the same surgery date but I can't get in for my 2 week follow up until Friday. I feel mostly good except still have external belly soreness at a couple of incisions. I hope you feel better soon - can't imagine being ill and trying to navigate these early post-op days. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. Thanks! I sprinkled some Protein powder on my Beans but not much - I'm quite sick of everything tasting like whey. Fortunately I've been able to have Greek yogurt since day 5, and I'll continue with those. Can't wait to have eggs! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
