    May bypass group!

I slept in our recliner in the livingroom for a few nights... it was the only place I could get comfortable... Keep ahead of the pain and take our pain pills on time, regardless of where your pain is at the moment. You can relax on that in a couple of days, but for now, stay ahead of the pain! You'll be feeling better soon! Some people gain from the IVs, that is Water weight, and it'll come off

    Sleep apnea

My doctor required the sleep study. If you needed a CPAP machine, he required 30 days of sleeping with it, and also stated several times that if you did not bring the machine with you to the hospital, he would cancel the surgery. There are real cases of complication from not being able to breath correctly after anesthesia. My doctor is a real stickler about it, and I had no choice but to comply (I couldn't say that it would go away after weight loss). I am using "Horton" now, and quite honestly, after getting used to him, I sleep better and so does my spouse. I do, however, look forward to the day that Horton goes in the closet
  3. OK, so I am now just a little over 2 weeks post op... WingStop is my ALL TIME favorite place for wings... and one day, I shall walk in there and order the cajun rub and garlic Parmesan wings... no fries... but definitely the wings. I may only eat a couple of them, but I shall eat those again Oh my... I also did the whole food funeral thing... mexican food was high on my list, because I really don't see myself eating baskets of chips anytime in my future. I have asked that we just avoid all mexican food places for the foreseeable future. I also had fried chicken at a local place called Eischens in Okarchee, OK., Wings and fries from Wingstop, fried homemade porkchops... I don't even remember now. I'm not a fastfood/chain restaurant kind of person though, so with the exception of Popeyes Chicken, I can't remember wanting any of that. You will have the ability to eat all of this again. What I'm learning from the 'pros', is that we have to get our brains caught up with our stomachs now, before our stomachs are able to eat all of this stuff again I've heard it put, "They operate on our stomachs, not our brains", and I know it's true. We have to work on our brains hard and forever!

    May bypass group!

Hi there, and welcome! My surgery was on the 16th. How are you feeling? I seem to be getting back to a 'normal' way of life I think... My doctor approved me for pureed/soft foods. The nurse said if I can smash it with a plastic fork, then I can eat it. I like that! I'm not hungry at all, but tiring of the shakes... How are you doing with this all???

    May bypass group!

I wasn't offered one, and honestly, today is 16 days post op, and I'm beginning to feel all normal in the belly area. I had that 'pull' for a long time, and even a day or two ago it was there... I realized this afternoon that it's really improved a lot!

Furious and back to ER I go!

Glad they got that all cleaned out... how awful! Will be thinking of you though

    Gas

I've heard of these Fart Pads myself... and honestly, if you are getting talked to about your gas, maybe you should try them? The dissolving gas-ex tabs help me whenever I have bad gas (mostly pre-op because of having my gall bladder removed) Have you tried those?
  8. Mine is better everyday too. I still can't sleep on my left side though... which is my favorite. I look forward to the night I sleep on my left side! Ha!
  9. I had my surgery on 5/16, and that pain on the left side is still there... kinda like when you drink Water and then run, you get a stitch/cramp... It's normal, and can last up to 4 weeks... of course, if it gets worse, you should definitely talk to your doc.

    GOALS!

See the scale number without pushing my stomach in to see! Shave my 'bikini line' without just feeling around to do it... I'd like to see what's going on again! Get on my horse without feeling like it takes an act of God, a good mounting block, and a few more prayers! Have energy to actually get out and do things that I want to do... I am tired of it hurting to walk around a festival or park. Be able to buy an outfit in the boutique where I get my hair cut... these clothes are SO STINKING CUTE! I want to wear them! I could go on... LOL!
  11. Wow, you look so great!! Congratulations on a job well done!!!

    9 weeks post op....

This is so good for me to read! I am only 2 weeks post op... I've lost 11lbs since surgery, and NOTHING fits any different... NOTHING. I'm convinced I'll never truly go down in sizes... Even though I know better, it's hard. So to see how quickly it's working for you gives me hope! I want to shrink out of some of my clothes, damnit! LOLOL

    Where's my butt?

Great job!! I bet it's fun to have a motorhome to go travelling in!
  14. My NUT told me to avoid carby things like mashed potatoes so that I don't start the carb addiction again after surgery. Have you tried eggface's ricotta bake? It's so good! Also, Hummus is wonderful, and around here I can get different flavors. Black Beans pureed with a little cheese on top heated up... really any bean pureed except high sugar baked beans.

    WEAK AND TIRED

You are tired because you haven't had any Protein in at least 12 days. When do you check in with your doctor and get the OK to start? I am 15 days out, and was able to move on to pureed/soft foods at day 10. That made me much happier. I have been having protein shakes since day two of surgery. I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope they advance you on to protein soon!
  16. No Veteran here, but I understand your frustrations... I am 11 days out. It's the same for me... although I am not bothered by it right now. I think going into this I knew it was going to be a big commitment during this time... during these first 6-12 months, it's not any different really than any other diet we've tried. You have to commit to making the right decisions so that you will see the right outcomes. I think that in time, it will become more habitual, which will make it all easier. This is the time to learn and form new habits. Take it on with a Great Attitude and it'll get easier (obviously not always the best attitude, we're also releasing a bunch of hormones, so I may sound like the happy witch today, and the wicked witch tomorrow )

    Week one rant

@@Cervidae your pictures truly are a great inspiration! Thanks for sharing. @@Alyssa Toner, hang in there! I am 11 days post op, and while I may be one of the luckier ones that hasn't had a lot of issues at all, I can still empathize with you... I am still quite sore... it's on my left side, and it's like when I was younger, would drink too much Water and then run and you'd get this stitch in your side... on this stitch is always there. I get cranky at night because I can't sleep the way I want to. But each morning, each day, I find that everything is getting just a little easier. I actually was able to put the dog's bowl on the ground today without kind of tossing it down there... LOL My Doctor has me on specific Protein right now too, for the first 6 months. Bariatric Advantage, New Direction, and Chike. My NUT claims it's because of the type of protein in these shakes, coupled with the other nutritional elements. I don't know how I feel about it, because I do love Premier Protein shakes - except I tried their dry powder and I DO NOT care for that. Everyone is different, and you just have to keep trying different flavors and brands until you find a few you can handle.

Hope you get your approval quickly!!!
  19. Add me to the list of those with left side pulling pain... I'm 9 days post op. I'm ready for the pain to go away LOL. I've heard 2-3 weeks... I'm hoping for 2

    Grumpy and irritated...

Hi there So I am 9 days post op... I am also grumpy at times and easily irritated. I think it's because we are hungry and our brains are in revolt LOL I have my post op appointment tomorrow and I'm supposed to get to start pureed foods... I've already purchased my favorite order of hummus. I may eat it in the parking lot at the doctor's office! ROFLMAO I'm also FREEZING all the time! I mean, my hands could cool down a beer, cold! What's up with that? I think it's interesting that my Hubby also has decided I must be doing better, because he left me with the dogs today for Breakfast. I went back to work yesterday, part time. It's hard, but I sit at a desk all day, so doable. I'm trying to save as much vacation time as I can. I am really ready for Friday. This is a hard time for us... but we'll get through. It will only be a blip on the radar in a few months! Hang in there! Better times are coming!!!!

  22. What a great job you have done! You look so much more confident! Good for you!!!

    165 lbs gone!

What a great transformation! You posted this on the day I had my surgery! I hope to post something as wonderful a year from now!!
  24. I just want you to know, I'm right there with ya. My follow up appointment is tomorrow... I've already bought my favorite hummus (and stuck my finger in it and licked it off) in anticipation of tomorrow. I'm bringing it in my lunch box for work, and I intend on having it for a snack in between these shakes tomorrow. I also know it's a short path on our journey, but when that head hunger starts, and I can't shake it with broth, Jello, or a shake, then I feel so sorry for myself I get really cranky. But it tends to pass quickly, thank goodness.

    Weight loss stalls

@@mignonsmom it's my understanding that we have to have the whey Protein in order for it to be absorbed... did I misunderstand that, because I'm really pretty certain that's the protein I was told to have first and foremost for absorption.
