  1. Today was surgery recovery day 2. I took some milk of magnesia this morning. It took 7 hours but I finally passed some of this trapped gas. So thankful!

Also, my husband leaves town on Monday for 5 days. My church small group is going to provide me with daily meals for my kids for the days my spouse is gone. I just feel so blessed.

From someone who was struggling with severe PPD a year ago, I can honestly say, I am looking forward to life.

  2. Swallow test went ok. I'm in a lot of post op pain. I really hope this goes away by Monday. This part is not enjoyable. My abdomen area hurts. The surgeon went through my belly button and 4 other areas. The cut inside the belly button hurts. I hate to complain but I'm hurting. My bariatric team is flying to Ohio so I'm on my own until Tues when they return. Also my husband leaves me alone with all three kids starting monday. He has a business trip planned. I'm nervous this is too much.

  3. Great advice Jamie!!!

Sarah, thank you for starting this thread. Welcome. I was sleeved yesterday morning. I did it for a lot of the reasons you listed. I'm almost 30. I have three kids. My family are huge Disney nuts. I was tired of looking at the family pictures with me missing because I was so embarrassed. I learned a lot from my NUT meetings. I also committed myself to the pre-op diet. The lifestyle change started before surgery for me. It's people like Jamie that are so encouraging to me. I am looking forward to living life!

  4. Age: 29, I turn 30 on April 21

    Height: 5'4"

    Starting weight: 227lbs

    Current Weight: 209

I thought I'd share my experience in hopes that it helps somebody.

I had to be at the hospital at 6:30am. I didn't have to wait very long. The nurse came, weighed me, and told me to change into the gown. I wasn't allowed any clothing under the gown. I had a super sweet nurse from Great Britain. She injected my hand with lidocaine so the IV needle didn't hurt going in. Also, she had to give me a shot in the stomach. It didn't hurt. After that the anesthesiology guy came in. He explained everything. Next my doctor came in. We chatted. I was wheeled into surgery and was sleeved at 8:30am.

I woke up and was in some pain. I was told my hiatial hernia was fixed. Meds were given. It took me a bit to recover from sedation. The first time I got up to pee sucked! That was really difficult. I rested a bit more before I attempted to walk. Second time I got up was much better. Pain is manageable with the meds. I'm not allowed to drink anything yet until my swallow test tomorrow. Honestly, I'm not hungry. The only other thing is my voice sounds terrible from the throat tube. That is about it so far. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

Good luck everyone on your pre-op journey.

  5. Today is day 4 of my Optifast liquid diet. I have one more work shift before surgery on Thursday morning.

I've done fairly well sticking to pre-op diet. Protein first and veggie, low carb. I gave up sodas 3 months ago. I also have done really well on the liquid diet, zero solids. I don't feel hungry. I do however want to eat. Not just eat....like throw down an entire medium pizza eat. Now, obviously that is not healthy. I wouldn't do anything to jeopardize my journey. It's really a bizarre feeling. I know in my heart I'm doing the right thing. My head wants to binge. Does this go away post op after getting used to your sleeve?

  6. Good luck @@mmell!

My dad was in town this weekend. He said when he looks at my sister he still pictures her as a size 2. When he looks at me all he can see is that I'm fat. FYI my sister is about 30 pounds above a normal weight for her height. See what I grew up hearing.

    Anyone else go through this?

  7. After my last visit, my bariatric coordinator sent everything to insurance for approval. It took two days for my Cigna PPO insurance to get the information on file. I was approved on day 4. My surgery was scheduled after the approval for the following week.

I am not sure how people get scheduled before the approval but if it works for the office then that's great.

Update: this is day 5 of liquid diet.

I have lost 6 pounds since starting the Optifast shakes.

    I turn 30 on April 21. Highest 227lbs. Current: 210lbs. Height 5'4".

My surgery is tomorrow morning at 830am. I have to be at the hospital at 6:30am. Eep. I'm nervous but ready to join the post op folks.

Note: Bikini pic was 10 years ago after I had lost 60 pounds without weight loss surgery. Obviously, I didn't maintain the loss. My biggest fear is failing at this journey.
