  1. Oh wow! Im glad everything went well with you. I have always had a high heart rate but it has slowed down since I started taking heart medication. I'm trying my best to get some rest before tomorrow morning, but it's impossible. Thank you so much.

My resting heart rate before surgery was 120. I tried different medications but each caused problems with my asthma. Now 11 months out my resting heart rate is 56! This has saved my life.
I know what you mean I couldn't sleep the night before either. Keep us posted.

  2. I am older at 48 I am 10 months out and nearly at goal. My under chin was bad around 6 months but has gotten much better now. My abdomen is very crepey, but doesn't really hang, my stomach above belly button is fine. My inner thighs a little crepey too. So I plan to wear bike short like swim shorts and bikini top. My bat wings also were bad around 6 months, but closer to goal the skin is more shriveled and wrinkly than hanging. Really unnoticeable and with weight lifting it is looking better. Good luck. One caveat I feel great and even with more face wrinkles I get a lot more attention from men and women it's crazy!

Sounds like you are happy with the results. Did you have alot to lose to begin with? I probably need to lose at least 120lbs. My main "goal" is to be pain free! I will deal with the cosmetic issues as they come, but if I am not always tired and in pain I think I could get through anything!!

Congratulations on your achievements so far!!!

I had 98 to lose. So not that different. I am very strict low carb, so my inflammation is way down and my pain now non existent! You are going to be so happy, just remember it is a journey.

  4. Hi numby2017,

I am just a bit ahead of you at 5 weeks today. At 10 days I was able to get alot of liquids, Soup and yogurt in. I thought the surgery was a fail. Now on soft food, I feel a pressure, that's when I know to stop or the food will come up. I rarely can eat more than a couple ounces of food and liquids are even going down slowly now. Surgery was a complete success, although, I have wicked head hunger. Good luck!

  5. Hi all,

You know @@kmorri, that is exactly what I thought I am so happy I got my surgery. Even if I have to keep driving my 17 year old car and hold off on buying new I, so be it:)

2goldengirl, I know huh, duh, obesity, why cover it if not for obesity! Thanks for tip on insurance board, I am in CA.

Kaitlynm, thanks for sharing your experience, I will talk to doctors office again tomorrow and see what they are doing. Crazy thing is they covered NUT and psych eval, I wonder what code they used. But not covered labs, lung xray and ekg

  6. Thanks for your feedback! I do have my approval letter and it is for a vsg with my doctor on March 7. Apparently the problem is my plan doesn't cover weight loss programs or things related to obesity but it does cover bariatric surgery. So they're denying it because it was for obesity even though the guidelines to get bariatric surgery a BMI of 40 is what is required. Luckily I also have severe sleep apnea, and they may cover it under that. The doctor's office is talking about partial coverage so I may have to get an attorney and see if I have a leg to stand on.

  7. I am beside myself with worry! I was sleeved March 7. I was approved by my insurance, I and my doctors office have approval letters. The insurance company now says VSG is not covered by my insurance plan. I NEVER would have had the surgery of it was not covered. They say I owe $42,000! They are even refusing to pay pre op tests and labs. Has anyone else had this happen? Did they have to pay? Am I up the creek without a paddle?

  8. Hi Nyhila,

I am so sorry you are feeling so badly. I had my surgery 3/7 and am covered in bruises. So don't worry there, what worries me is your pain control.

You said you took a Toradol that is an Nsaid, same class as Advil. I was told to never take an NSAID again after surgery, ever! Just check with your doctor's office. I know you also said you didn't like the nausea associated with other pain relievers. I take Zofran, an anti nausea pill along side and have very little nausea.

I really hope you are feeling better soon. Everyday will get better. I really like the premier Protein, easy to get down, I keep mine in an insulated cup so it stays cool during the hour or two it takes me to get it down. Keep us posted.

  9. I am also a stay at home mom with two kids (1 and 2) I also care for my father who lives with us. My husband plans on taking a week off.

    Hi 1excited,

Where are you in the process? My paperwork was submitted on Feb. 11 so I should hear any day now. Wow, two little ones and your father, sounds like you are surrounded with blessings and responsibilities. I cared for my parents when my son was little, so I know. Good luck with everything, :)

@@uberbuffaloegal as you know little ones plus caring for someone is a challenge but as you said it is both a blessing and responsibility. My paperwork was submitted February 19 BUT the insurance coordinator did not send in any of my clinical notes. The insurance company contacted her and she still did not send it in. I called my insurance company a week later and they explained what was going on. I called her and she lied and said they refused to give her the fax number. I called and they were like that is not true and here is the fax number. She also said she called them twuce , which also was not true. So my paperwork just sat for a week because she sucks. I called today and it is being reviewed. I have aetna. Who is your provider?
    Hi 1excited,

I have BCBSTX, I was denied by Aetna in 2013, my gp had my height wrong by 4 inches, so it showed that my bmi was under 40 in the last 2 years. The lady that handled the appeals at my dr. Office was in a terrible car accident and my appeal was not timely or correct. I can't be mad, poor dear, and the lady trying to do it had no clue. I have severe sleep apnea. But don't worry I know lots who had no Trouble with Aetna. So now 2 years on I have BCBSTX and I am trying again, still no word as of today. Any word on ur end? Did they send the notes? I am in Socal, OC, where r u? Goodluck

  11. You'll be fine. I didn't have anyone after the day I came home. Your kiddo should be fine. You might want to do some good planning - make sure all laundry is done, have clothes picked out for a few days, have easy to prepare meals for him (sandwiches, microwaveable stuff), etc. I was driving on my second day home, so I could get kiddo from school, etc.

    Hi DaisyAmy,

Thanks so much, I think my hubby will get a week off, but you never know. There was an emergency at work two days after my back surgery and he got called back in, and that was tough. So it's nice to know there are those that made it without extra help. So glad to hear there are several people who could drive a few days later. You know I hadn't thought about the clothes, lol. I pick out his clothes everyday, that might have been an unexpected glitch. Thanks again

  12. You have a 10 year old? I'd say about 5 days. I had help for a week but started doing everything for my kids by day 4 because the kids were done with "not mommy". My kids are 3 and 6. I was off painkillers by day 2, so driving wasn't an issue.

My surgeon said I could go back to my desk job after a week but I chose to take 2 weeks, because I can. And I never get that kind of time off.

    Hi JH,

So glad to hear there are people who can stop meds right away. I know we are all different but I sure hope I can stop pain meds right away. Glad to hear driving was okay, that is my biggest worry, school pick up and drop off. Thanks for the info.

  13. Unless you have other medical issues I don't think you would need a helper at home, after the first week (bar any complications, [not to ill-wish]) you should be moving around pretty easily. My big incision was still sore after a week (but it was infected), but I could still get around. As long as you're not doing any heavy lifting etc it shouldn't be a problem. The bigger issue with getting stuff done earlier can often be that you just don't have the energy while on the liquid diet, but your son is 10 so he's not super young.

    Hi Perforce,

Thanks for sharing your experience. It really helps to know how others have fared. I'm sorry you had an infection, that is scarey. But glad to hear you were still able to get around. I didn't realize until today that you are really tired on the liquid phase. It makes sense, it just didn't occur to me. Thanks for the info:)

  14. You should be fine with a 10 year old and your husband to pitch in. If it would make you feel better, cook up a couple of weeks worth of meals that can be frozen and nuked (I'm the only one with no nuking capability, it seems). Your guys are capable of doing laundry, but if they balk, let them shop together for a new supply of underwear so that they don't run out.

I think your son will be happy and proud to cater to you for a while. While he's at it, have him swivel around your signature photo up there.

    Hi WLSRes,

I am like you I nuke almost nothing. So it will be a learning time for me as well. I think I will definitely try to get at least a weeks worth of meals pre made, just in case. My son is at a wonderful age, he still enjoys mom time. So I know he will be happy to help.

Oh I know the picture, lol. I'll fix that on my computer tomorrow, I am not tech savvy, lol.

    Thanks for your help

  15. I agree with @@Miss Mac, you should be fine with a couple of days of help around the house, barring some sort of horrible complication. This sounds like a good time for your son to get more involved in meal prep, laundry, and other household chores if he isn't already ;)

Also, if you do need more help, consider hiring someone from care.com to come in for a few hours each afternoon to help with light housekeeping and meals if you can afford it. That way your husband could avoid taking off any additional time, and you'll have some truly free time to nap and focus on things like planning your Protein and Fluid intake. Good luck!

    Hi Bufflehead,

You are absolutely right, I will start my son now in learning to prepare simple meals. He already does laundry so I am lucky there. I hadn't thought of just hiring someone for a few hours a day, I had it in my mind they had to be there all day, Thanks for the tips.

  16. Since your son is ten, you will do better than someone who has lap babies or disabled parents to care for. You will need a couple of days just to get the anesthetic out of your system, and you will be tired at least until you get back on soft foods. You will no doubt have a lifting restriction. Mine was no more than five pounds for a month.

I needed help getting the laundry to the basement but was able to do the wash once it was down there. Then I had help bringing it back up. If hubby can get a week off and help around the house that week, you should be able to putter around after that.

You might not feel like driving until you get some strength back. I was ok around the house from the second week out and had "cabin fever" by the third week.

Thanks Miss Mac, I was really worried I would be bed ridden for 3 weeks, I know that doesn't make sense but our mind does funny things when left to its own devices. If I can potter I am good:) but only 5 lbs eek that is my handbag. Thanks for the info
